    PART 2

    CHAPTER 1

I spent another month in the hospital, taking various tests and meds. The doctor was very persistent that I stayed so they could make sure I was ready to go back, that I could get stronger both physically and mentally; much to the Major’s annoyance as he wanted me back in action as soon as possible. I myself? I wasn’t too fussed about it. I needed the rest.

Major Karla only stayed for the day that I woke up and disappeared after that, since there is a five-hundred-year-old war to fight. But after a week the Major had a package sent to the hospital, addressed to me. I was handed a silver briefcase with the crest of the Union engraved on its surface. Undoing the locks and throwing it open, my eyes fell upon two shining objects that would truly put me back into action. Two black metalic limbs, replacements for the limbs I had lost at the front line. I could tell they weren’t cheap.

Later that day I went into surgery to have the limbs ‘installed’ into my body. A three-hour procedure that under the influence of anesthesia felt like minutes for me. I spent the rest of the month getting used to the new limbs. They honestly felt foreign. They felt wrong, but I had to come to terms that they were mine. Something would become a part of me, and I would have have to treat them as such, or I’d never get used to them. The limbs are electronic and run on power that only lasts a few hours before needing to be recharged which is a pain. But you don’t get good things without there being some sort of fault that follows it.

By the end of the month I made the prothstetics my own. No
