    Edwin spotted them the moment he stepped off the train. The tall one wore a dark suit. A fedora tilted down over a Neandethalic forehead, and two slabs of granite with fingers affixed to them stuck out from the sleeves of his jacket. The short one wore a tan suit, his head bare, with wisps of thinning hair blowing around the crown of his narrow head. For no reason whatsoever Edwin’s trouble mind gave the men names: Bruiser and Clarence.

    The moment he saw the two men waiting on the eastern end of the plat, both of them searching the faces of those disembarking from the 7:40 morning train out of Cedar Falls, he knew that they were waiting for him. Bobby the Gent used
