The world outside was a white thing sliding past, an occasional farmhouse or barn breaking up the monotonous flatness of the countryside. Whenever they passed a house, Sam wondered about the family living there, thought about what they were all doing right then, as he and his father passed by. He wondered if anyone was looking out a window, and had seen the small blue car drive past in a whirl of snow.
