Chapter One
Ivan, take a hoe and a spade! Dig two holes up to 1.5 m wide, 3 feet deep, near the main road,
she said.
But grandma, I can’t do it. I have never done it before. In town, we are not used to dirty jobs. They are tiresome,
he replied.
Okay, just walk to that grave of your grand pa over there and tell him what you have uttered. If he accepts, well and good for you. I will serve you a hot cup of coffee and a cake. If he doesn’t, just pick the spade and a hoe and do what I have ordered you to do. Moreover, in this family we don’t use such words; I can’t do it, I won’t do it, it is hard for me...we don’t magnify our predicament. It is punishable. Ask how you can do it....how you will do it....I am doing it...I am bigger than my obstacles.
Hurriedly, he walked to the graveyard. Furious and gasping for air, as twin tears streamed down the cheeks...Only to be meant by a cross, a date of birth, death date below beautifully written words on a white cross. Beautiful flowers on the graveyard as a sign of continuity, about turn, into the store, pick up the spade, the hoe and a black cap.
Late in the afternoon, the little lad was sweating blood as he shrugged off the black cotton soil when a sleek black sports utility vehicle came
Hi, little champ, you are really an ant. You have done all this by yourself!
He said, as he threw a quick glimpse inside the holes
At the far angle, the only item on the menu for Kyle, his sister and his big beautiful mother was quick glances at Ivan and Mr. David through their rolled down tinted windows while holding cans of energy drinks.
I am impressed by you little stallion
he uttered. From his pocket shirt, he handed over a hundred yen note to Ivan as a tip for work well done.
Thank you, Mr. David for your kindness,
he said as he carefully folded the note and tacked it into the side pocket of his short.
A new crop of an idea gestated in his sharp mind, he quickly mopped up the work, placed the hoe, the spade and a pair of shoes on his right shoulder. After a quick shower, the little man in the town was ready to roll. Straight to the Z.t mall, on the left far corner. "FAST FOOD CENTRE. Placed an order of his favorite; red passion juice, big sweetened heart-shaped cake, a cup of vanilla ice cream, ten chocolate chewing gums, spices to spice up the appetite in him. All wrapped in multiple soft white papers then put in a big blue paper bag. What a day! What a pay! What an end! Later in the night, impressed by the work well executed, his grandmother prepared a whole grain brown rice, mashed boiled potatoes and two cups of black herbal tea.
***
Secretly, he dumped the food in the dustbin, splashed the bitter herbal tea over the fence. Quietly, he got into his room and closed door slowly. What a date! He mesmerized as he pulled the blue paper bag from under the bed. "Knock! Knock! Knock! A quick knock at the door. Without warning, grandma stormed in. Seconds later, she disappeared. Minutes later, she resurfaced armed with a black rope and a big cooking stick. Without time to contemplate what was happening, the boy was log tied. Suddenly, heavy and deafening sounds of sticks were heard as they landed on him heavily.
"Please mum, come to my rescue, I am going to die, what have I done?uuui uuui, aaa aaa, wuuuuuuuu, woi woi woi!.What did I do?
Why are you doing this to me? Where is my mother? I can’t bear with this anymore! You are such an inhuman person. You are not my grandmother anymore!" Two hours later, the little man was untied.
I am not going to take that food away, but, dare you to touch it because the hell will light up tonight. That is my breakfast!
she shouted
In the morning, only sugarless green tea was available.
Ivan, remain behind,
madam Tel said after releasing the rest of pupils. Ivan, what happened to you? Your body is full of bruises and your face is swollen. Who did this to you?
she asked.
My vicious grandmother did this to me for a reason I didn’t take her food.
Mm, why did you do that?
she asked.
"I had my favorite cookies, fries, and thirst-quenching juice. That
