About this ebook

If you have always wanted to learn Indonesian quickly but find it too overwhelming or complicated then keep reading …

Indonesian is a fun language to learn, the problem is most learning materials are costly and make language learning too complicated. They start of good but then advance too quickly. Just like those dreaded language classes in school. The result, nothing sinks in, you become overwhelmed and eventually give up.

We know learning a foreign language isn't easy, it challenges both your brain and your time. Learning new concepts and setting aside time for your learning can be difficult. And if you're studying with bad material you can end up getting stuck more than necessary, which isn't fun.

Most students feel to start learning a language you simply need to start. That's true but it's better to first find the right resources to help you progress smoothly. Otherwise it can be a real motivation killer.

If these are problems you've faced, don't worry we're here for you. The days of difficult learning are long gone!

We've created this book which aims to make language learning simple. We teach you language patterns and grammar structures which can be used to form your own sentences. Instead of set phrases, which aren't very practical.

No more complex learning! We keep it simple topic to topic and help you progress through Indonesian smoothly. Starting with greetings, moving to introductions, small talk and then conversations. From the very beginning you'll be learning how to speak Indonesian. And before you know it you'll be speaking like a boss!

In this book you will discover:

• Simple and smooth approach to Indonesian with topics that slowly build on each other. You won't need another grammar book after you've begun reading this one!

• Learn how to form your own sentences instead of just set phrases, allowing you to have longer more fun conversations.

• Essential vocabulary section with some of the most common words in Indonesian. You'll definitely find this useful!

• Totally written in romanji (English characters), we leave the reading and writing of Indonesian behind and solely focus on getting you to a conversational speaking level.

Even if you've struggled to learn Indonesian for years and years, this book gives you the missing piece you need towards your fluency journey.

    Learning Indonesian

    Hello and welcome to your Indonesian language learning journey!

    I hope you are as excited as us to be learning Indonesian. In this series we will cover the fundamentals of Indonesian language. Starting with basic greeting and moving towards more advanced topics. But don’t worry, we’ll walk alongside you so don’t get confused. There is nothing worse than being taught a new language only to be constantly stuck and confused.

    Unlike other language books we don’t plan on teaching you countless phrases. Instead we aim to teach you how to form your own sentences by teaching sentence structure and language patterns. We’ve found this way of learning allows students to pick up a language much quicker, which is what we want!

    One thing we do recommend is to read this content sequentially and do not skip over any sections. We have designed the section to build on top of each other, there’s no rush! So take your time to fully understand each section before moving on. At the end of each section there will be a short homework to complete.

    Follow these steps and you will be speaking Indonesian in no time. And by the end of this series you will be able to communicate with people in Indonesian on a conversational level. Trust me you will be amazed at your results.

    Let’s get started ...

    Introduction

    Indonesian or Bahasa Indonesia is one of the easiest language you can learn.

    Why so easy?

    Because there is much less grammar in Indonesian than English and sentences do not change due to pronouns and verbs.

    ––––––––

    Let’s take a look at an example:

    I play video games

    =  Saya bermain video games

    She plays video games

    =  Ia bermain video games

    See? No need to worry about the changing verbs due to pronouns.

    ––––––––

    Let’s have a look at other examples:

    I watch movie

    =  Saya menonton film

    I am watching the movie now

    =  Saya sedang menonton film sekarang

    (now = sekarang)

    (watch  =  menonton, movie  =  film)

    I watched the movie yesterday

    =  Saya telah menonton film kemarin

    (yesterday = kemarin)

    I will watch the movie tomorrow

    =  Saya akan menonton film besok

    (tomorrow = besok)

    ––––––––

    Do not worry is you do not know any of the vocabulary, this will be covered in more detail later.

    The important thing to notice is that the verb does not change according to the tense. By simply adding some additional information on the sentence like sedang, telah and akan we can change the tense of the sentence.

    Now that we know this we can start with the first topic.

    Pronouns and Possessive Pronouns

    We will start with covering pronouns:

    I   =  Saya (formal),

    Aku (informal)

    You   =  Anda (formal),

    Kamu (informal) → singular

    You   =  Kalian → plural

    She  =  Dia/Ia

    He  =  Dia/Ia

    We  =  Kami/Kita

    They  =  Mereka

    It  =  Ini

    ––––––––

    Examples

    I book a hotel

    =  Saya memesan sebuah hotel

    I book a hotel

    =  Aku memesan sebuah hotel (formal)

    (book  =  memesan, a hotel  =  sebuah hotel)

    ––––––––

    He books a hotel

    =  Dia memesan sebuah hotel

    We books a hotel

    =  Kami memesan
