Song of Humanity - Gordon Van Smith
Passage
Traveling down the highway of life,
I stop and pause.
Remembrance of days past.
The clean, fresh days of spring have sprung.
The warm sun on my face has set in the west.
All the flowers have faded.
The beauty of autumn colors has blown away with the wind.
The cold, gray winter has set in.
Dust has settled deeply on the windowsill.
As I gaze through the grimy, cracked windowpane,
I think about the seeds I have sown.
I wonder where they are.
I am sure they are busy.
They have their own lives to live.
I wish she was here to see me through this.
At least she has found peace.
It is so cold and empty here.
The golden years have turned to rust.
I should have done more.
It is too late now.
It does not matter anyway.
Soon my aches will pass.
The light dims.
The flickering candle is almost spent.
Another Way
Walking along the river, I reflect upon my life.
The moving water never ceases on its journey to the sea.
The blazing sun shines on.
The clouds hover over the lush, green land.
The rain pours down
and nourishes the Earth.
The darkness of my youth has passed.
There is no need to take from others anymore.
The iron bars have quenched my rage.
The hatred is gone. My rebellion has faded.
Out of the cold, black pit of despair,
I have found the path of life.
As I bathe in the golden light of a new day,
I feel warm inside.
Ah, the joy of life,
is crystal clear to me now.
The tender smile and softness of her touch
has shown me another way.
A Man from the Masses
Fortune and fame shall never be mine.
I do not aspire to greatness in this life.
My destiny lies elsewhere.
The journey I have traveled has taught me well.
In this vast and ageless Universe, I have found my way.
All living things are interconnected.
Each organism plays its vital part.
Everything in the Cosmos has its role.
My riches come from Nature.
The laughter of children.
The kindness of those I encounter.
The smiles of joyful people.
The love of family and friends.
The vibrant flowers basking in the sunshine.
The rain falling upon the Earth.
The explosive, loud sound of thunder.
The awesome power of lightning.
The meandering river
