Chapter 1

As well-dressed onlookers whispered, Galicia Raven, burlesque dancer, walked towards the concierge desk of Zarel’s notorious Kuwait Resort. Polished stone and gold trim counters were not her norm. In her line of work, she expected to see flashing neon lights rather than elegance.

Most of my clients prefer a little more anonymity. However, this is the address given to me.

Without second-guessing herself further, she continued towards the unknown, ignoring the stares and whispers as she stepped up to the desk.

I’m here to see Mr. Zook. Please inform him that Miss Galicia Raven has arrived for our meeting. She said with trepidation in her voice. Had she been familiar with the location, she would have dressed a little less conspicuously. What’s done is done. No going back home and changing now. Business is business. Shrugging it off, she waited while the uptight concierge man called her client’s room.

Mr. Zook is sending his assistant to escort you. The man sniffed and stuck his nose in the air, shaking his head as if to say that she was not worthy of the appointment.

Lovely, she replied in a sarcastic tone.

Under his breath, the concierge said, Just great. There must be a magnetic shift in the planet this week because Zarel seems to be crawling with exotic performers.

Thinking back to her last client, Mr. Totaldoucebag, as she liked to refer to him, Galicia’s insides turned. The old bloke was from one of the lesser-known planets, one she had never heard of before. Fortunately, for her, they carried enough universal credits to afford her services as a gravity burlesque queen.

Her usual clientele were high-ranking politicians and billionaires who came to Zarel for a little rest. Her time was not cheap, but for those who were looking for more than just a burlesque dancer, she reserved the right to say No but made sure to collect her "credits" or, as she liked to call it, cash in advance. In her experience, the richer the client, the more likely they were to try to stiff her. She was smarter than most performers; she would have them deposit her credits twenty-four hours before her performance.

A tall, well-built man wearing a traditional Zarel military uniform approached her at the concierge desk and introduced himself.
