About this ebook

After Logan Reid’s girlfriend breaks up with him, he (literally) runs into a woman named Ellie. At first, it just seems like lust at first sight, but the woman he calls Ellie, whose real name is Eltintia, has many dark secrets. It all spins out of control as Logan, his best friend Emily, and Ellie must flee sinister men bent on Ellie's destruction. This is a companion novella to "Lilith”. Elrintia finds refuge with her cousin Lilith and Lilith's two lovers; Nicki and Wade. They arrive just in time for the spring solstice, when Logan and Emily discover their new friend is much, much more than the hottest woman they’ve ever met. There are two other novellas in the "Lilith World" collection; "Katarina" and "Zoe".

    Chapter 1

Logan looked down at the text message; it was short and sweet…well, maybe not sweet. He wasn’t surprised or upset. A hint of a chuckle tried to well up in his throat. He wasn’t mad or even sad. Brittani, his hottie girlfriend, or rather his hottie ex-girlfriend, had just broken up with him. Oh, well…

He lived by himself on the third floor of a white, triple-decker apartment house whose peeling paint and general appearance of disrepair was very much like other apartments that graced, if the word could be used, a pot-holed street on the seedy side of town. He sat alone in a rickety chair perched on a small deck just outside his back door. The deck provided access to the stairs that led down to a small parking area at the back of the building. It was more of a fire escape than a lounging area, and there wasn’t much of a view, but he liked being outside. He didn’t mind the living arrangements since he didn’t spend much time in town. The half-empty beer in his hand was getting warm. He didn’t like warm beer, but his mind was elsewhere.

It was mud season, so it was too late to lead winter hiking groups and too early for white-water rafting. For someone who guided mountain hikes and rafting expeditions, this was the slow time of year. He always got a little morose when he wasn’t on the move. He poured his warm beer over the railing and went back inside to get a cold one…and call her.

After grabbing a beer from the fridge, he picked up his phone. Hey Siri, call Brittani.

    Calling Brittani…cell, Siri confidently replied.

It rang several times before Brittani picked up. I can’t believe you’re calling me, she said with an irritated tone. "What didn’t you get about we’re done? Get over it."

Logan visualized her standing there; shoulder-length, silky blonde hair, pouty lips, firm breasts, and long, long legs. He was going to miss that, even if she was a bitch. Yeah, hi, Brittani. I did get your text. Thanks for the heads up on the whole break-up thing. He paused, waiting for her to say something, but all he heard was huffing. Given that we’ve been going out together for almost six months, and this is the first time you’ve voiced anything about us having a problem, I was wondering if you’d be willing to share why…you know, for future reference.

So, if I tell you, will you promise you’re not going to turn into some creepy stalker guy?

Logan laughed, even though he tried to stifle it. He really did want to know what she had to say. Yes, pinky swear, no stalking. He could almost hear the tiny wheels whirring in her head.

All right then. First of all, you spend all your time in the woods with bugs and snakes and everything. Gross. You live in that horrible apartment and drive an old pick-up truck. You don’t make much money and you’re never going to amount to anything.

Logan nodded to himself. Nothing she had said was untrue, except for her last observation. So, what then? Are you trading up?

As a matter of fact, I am. I met a guy. He drives a Lexus, has a nice apartment, works at a real job...and he buys me nice things.

    And what does he do?

Well, if you must know, he sells cars. He’s very good at it.

Nice. I’d like to thank you for being more direct and open with me. I appreciate it. Oh, and I really hope you and your new friend will be happy.

Brittani was confused and didn’t answer right away. Thank you, Logan, that’s very understanding of you. She paused again. I guess I’ll kind of miss you. Then, after a short pause, she added, You were the best fuck ever, she added a little breathlessly.

That’s nice of you to say, Brittani. Thank you, I guess? replied Logan.

The following day Logan was up early for his morning run. The mid-March sun was still below the horizon as he propelled his six-foot-two frame down the street towards a track that circled the high school football field. Muscular and tanned by a life lived outdoors, he favored a run through the woods to hours spent in gyms on machines that reminded him of a hamster wheel. He was handsome; some would say ruggedly handsome. His wavy, dark brown hair was set off by vibrant emerald-green eyes. Logan, though not one to constantly pursue women, rarely found himself without female companionship.

As he pounded down the street he thought about his conversation with Brittani. He did a lot of his thinking while he was working out. At age thirty-one, he’d just burned through another relationship. In retrospect, the Brittani thing had gone on way too long. He knew he didn’t love her and never would. She was very attractive, decent in the sack, but vain and self-centered. It probably lasted as long as it did because he spent so much time in the woods. He now realized she had been using him for sex while she was casting about for someone with more money. Even so, he had to admit he was probably using her as well. So much for the moral high ground, he thought to himself.

    Chapter 2

Across town, a friend of Logan’s was having her own inner monologue. Emily Davenport worked as a guide at the same company as Logan. They shared friendship, a love of the outdoors…and much more. At five-foot-four, she might not seem like a formidable presence, but she was. Emily was twenty-five, had a swimmer’s body, and brunette hair with a pixie cut. Her bright blue eyes sparkled and captivated everyone she met. A husky, sultry voice was a surprise to anyone who met her; she looked like a bubbly, cute little…pixie, but then she was full of surprises.

Her latest partner, Alice, had dumped her to run off with some bull dyke on a Harley. It was a little disappointing, but she rarely found it difficult to find someone to help warm her bed. Being bisexual definitely increased her odds. The only problem (well, maybe not he only one) was lesbians didn’t trust her and guys always felt she was going to run off with a lesbian. She kind of understood, even though she didn’t want to admit it.

The down time during mud season wasn’t helping. At least her cat, Rusty, was sticking with her. He was a huge, orange long-haired tabby with double paws. She loved him dearly. However, as the giver of cat food, she knew they had a kind of quid pro quo relationship. He was, after all, a cat.

Emily realized all this introspection was making her horny. Alice had departed over a week ago and, for someone with a serious libido, it was time to recharge her batteries. She knew just
