    Scrutinies Entreaties Conjurations - Guille DeBastart

    A St Padraig's Day Toast

    "Descended all of kings;

    e'ery hovel a castle.

    Break bread, lift yer cups;

    keep the fast still.

    Mind e’en in jest

    may be troves

    o’ fair wisdom;

    Each word I’ve said

    I meant as I spake.

    May yer tail be

    three days in Heaven

    Before the devil

    misses yer snout.

    To the feckless S.O.B’s

    who loathe the Kingdom;

    I say feck ye

    if ye kin naught

    take a joke."

    Et Abscondet Faciem Sol

    Et abscondet faciem Sol;

    The Sun will hide his face,

    See, the sun constant shines

    while we sleep, work, or

    dreaming play yet think not on it,

    it shines.

    Bright, warm, steady

    e'en while half the world slumbers

    on this blue gem enfolded in its light;

    life given without a second thought

    for what has been

    surrendered.

    Majestic, distant, giving light, life,

    hope in the deepest night,

    comfort with each dawn;

    able, too, to parch the tongue,

    burn the skin, blind the eye,

    and slay the fool in his way.

    Wonder not that from ancient times

    more than one has considered

    this great thing and the God of Gods

    in a single thought.

    Not the same, mind you, but

    certainly not altogether unlike.

    We live and breathe and in

    the Light have our being.

    Though we do not

    see directly yet we know and

    take comfort there.

    Upon the Funeral of William (Bill) Kramer
