A Cry for Help
41919.pngHe cursed his mother and ran from the house,
hid behind the garage with a joint in his mouth.
Chugging on beer and smoking Marlboro Lights,
crying in the darkness completely out of sight.
She slammed and locked the door,
screaming not to listen anymore.
Placing a blade on her skin,
she began to cut again and again.
He sat in the alley cold and all alone,
one number away from dialing the phone.
A needle in his arm and close to death,
praying to God beneath his breath.
She sat in the tub pumping her fist,
as the blood oozed from her wrist.
Brokenhearted and tired of it all,
no one to hear her silent call.
He lay across the bed with pill bottle in hand,
mumbling to himself that no one understands.
Drifting off to sleep without a will to wake,
a letter on the table to say that it’s too late.
She stood out on the ledge shouting into the night,
asking for forgiveness and the way into the light.
When a hand reached out and pulled her back in,
denying the reaper from claiming his win.
It’s never too late if you look for the signs,
the silent screams and distorted minds.
Take the time and don’t turn away,
you just may save a life today.
42670.pngA Sheep in Darkness
41922.pngI have climbed the corporate ladder and slowly fell,
fought my way back from the gates of hell.
A man with convictions but committed no crime,
just living each day and buying my time.
I have drunk with the rich and ate with the poor,
beaten the best and thrown through the door.
Tasted the poison that fills all the graves,
walked in the darkness that evil craves.
I have cheated death and witnessed the light,
prayed on my knees and sinned in the night.
I have strayed from the flock like a lonely sheep,
waded the waters that were running too deep.
I have given my heart just to be hated,
been underscored and overrated.
I have burnt the bridge and cast the stone,
been lost in a crowd but stood alone.
A man with stolen hopes and broken dreams,
jaded promises and silent screams.
Just a sheep without a flock,
forgotten time on a broken clock.
42677.pngAbove and Below
41925.pngSitting here on this Smoky Mountain ridge
gazing down at the valley below,
With the autumn colors atop the trees
a sight of beauty that all should know.
While staring across the skyline
from the balcony of my suite,
I am deafened from all the noise
that echoes from the street.
Looking out across the ocean
while the tides put on a show,
From this tower of faith and hope
as sailors follow her glow.
Seeking out the sceneries
from the window of a plane,
Your life keeps getting smaller
as the fear shadows your brain.
Standing at the gates of heaven
receiving your wings of gold,
Watching the spawns of the devil
as they dwell in the pits down below.
42679.pngAged to Perfection
41927.pngBirthdays would be fabulous
if you never had to age,
Just finish out a chapter
by adding another page.
Your skin would never wrinkle
and the gray would never show,
The bottom would never drop
and your sight would never go.
Just a day filled with sunshine
that pops in every year,
Joy and celebration
not calculated fear.
A day that’s covered in chocolate
with a side of wings and fries,
Instead of feeling guilty
looking at your ass and thighs.
Your day that’s made for toasting
as you stumble with your friends,
Never worrying about tomorrow
or if you need some new depends.
If we could only stay young forever
remembering the years before,
Birthdays would be the bomb
instead of hoping for just one more.
(Getting old sucks, but it sure is fun getting there.)
42681.pngAlone He Walks
41929.pngWith a wounded mind
he made it home,
only to find
he was all alone.
With no rewards
to show his scars,
only bitter words
from passing cars.
No porch to sit on
to heal his mind,
just concrete fields,
with daily grinds.
No welcome committee
to say good job,
only protesting banners
and angry mobs.
Lost in a jungle
with no way out,
surviving each day
on echoes and doubt.
Losing the battle of words
that riddle our streets,
the final white flag
to show his defeats.
With a heart of valor
he fears the night,
as he slowly disappears
with a wrong of doing right.
42683.pngAmerican Bloodline
41931.pngIt’s not your clothes nor hats and boots,
that always reminds you of your roots.
It’s not the way you dance or team you cheer,
the whiskey you drink or brand of beer.
It’s not your speech nor flag you fly,
that keeps outsiders wondering why.
It’s not your laugh or where you live,
the money you have nor what you give.
It’s not the truck or car you own,
the place you dwell that you call home.
It’s not the food in which you eat,
nor the company in which you keep.
It’s not your religion or how you pray,
the way you vote or things you say.
It’s not your strength, weakness or fear,
the ones you love that you keep near.
It’s not the tobacco you smoke or chew,
the job you have the whole year through.
It’s not your enemy nor your friend,
the lies you tell or truth you bend.
It’s really no secret in who you are,
just stand up proud and touch your heart.
42685.pngAmerican or Not
41934.pngI pledge allegiance to the flag
but don’t ask for nothing more,
I never vote or show concern
when soldiers go off to war.
The national anthem, stand or kneel
it really doesn’t matter to me,
Global warming or current events
is just static they show on TV.
I see no fuss to owning a gun
and I fish where I was saved,
I’m not a republican or democrat
but my taxes are always paid.
If you wasn’t born in America,
then stay on your own land,
I still believe in showing faith
by simply shaking a hand.
I never give away my money
to charities, the homeless or the poor,
Nothing is wrong with being rich
and always wanting more.
I never claim to be a saint
but I believe in God above,
However, by trading vows
you stick with the one you love.
I pledge allegiance to the flag
but don’t ask for nothing more,
If you don’t believe in what I say
don’t come knocking on my door.
42688.pngAngus and Me
41936.pngThere is a special friendship with Angus and me,
a relationship of love that no other can see.
With unspoken words we hear from the heart,
a dependent on one but half of a part.
The hours we spend just being alone,
laughing and crying just carrying on.
He dances in pastures while showing his pride,
a black shiny coat with glistening eyes.
Trotting through fields as if something to prove,
a silhouette of sunshine against the morning dew.
I can predict his movement with a click of a heel,
grooming his coat to preparing his meal.
He carries himself as that of a king,
announcing his presence as he steps into the ring.
We travel together for others to know,
expecting the worse but stealing the show.
I fight back the tears while sitting at home,
regretting the day, we end up alone.
He is the part of my life that makes me complete,
an unusual friend with four funny feet.
He is a daily reminder when I lay down to sleep,
as I pray for my family and Angus to keep.
He is more than a steer that others may see,
a part of my soul that dwells within me.
I dream about college and a family of my own,
a shiny new car and a traveling phone.
I wish for a spouse to fall from the stars,
one without fault and a heart without scars.
I will grow through my years being all I can be,
keeping all the memories of Angus and me.
Are you satisfied with your life
happy with your husband or wife.
Are you enjoying your daily routine
places you’ve been all that you’ve seen.
Are you content with your friends
your fashions and trends.
Are you accepting your children’s growth
your wedding vows and devoted oath.
Are you sharing your empty space
your open arms and smiling face.
Are you giving love to those in need
holding hands with the hearts that bleed.
Are you listening to those who speak
giving strength to the timid and weak.
Are you believing all that you hear
turning your back on hope or fear.
Are you showing how much you really care
giving thanks in your evening prayer.
