    Prologue

Food and fucking, what else could a tom cat need? He crept forward sticking close to the wall of the structure, wood, brick, concrete and plaster; it didn’t make a difference. As long as he found some delectable morsel to nibble on and nice cute kitty to rut, everything in his world was paradise. A sharp sound rent the air. Clatter, hmm, something must of fell or maybe a nice fat rat…smaller mouse, is on the run for their life. Yum, a late dinner, or early breakfast.

The amber glow of the rising sun was on the horizon, but the bright rays of the illuminating orb hadn’t quite broken through the darkness yet. It was the best time to do any and all things fun and possibly illicit. He stopped, fog hung low to the ground and the smell of rain was ripe in the air. Perhaps he should find shelter. He darted across the open space to the next building. The door swung open with a squeal. Human legs stepped from beyond the clear barrier and he waited. Unsure if he should scamper away or stay. Some humans were nice, other’s not so much.

Hello there. The person crouched and slid gentle fingers through the fur along his spine.

It was warm and inviting just as the first fat drops of rain started to hit the ground.  This will do for now.

    Chapter One

The sun wasn’t too hot, not yet anyway. Beau sat at one of the park picnic tables and chewed his sandwich. He studied the dust on his boots and thought he should clean them at some point. He’d gone from New Mexico to Maine on the back of his bike, and his boots were starting to show their age.  A breeze came off the water, blowing the map he held as he studied his nest stop trying to decide if he should find a place to sleep for the night instead. He had no fixed destination, no real plans. Beau figured when the trip was over, he would know it. The park by the water was nice, and people were out on boats lazily paddling in kayaks. The trees whispered as they moved, and the shade could lull him into a nap if he sat there too long.

The sound of laughter caused his head to turn, and Beau forgot to breathe for a minute.  She stood with her hand thrown up to the sky as if worshipping the sun gods. In response, they cast the rays down to her and made her ebony skin look like it was kissed with bronze. She was barefoot and wore anklets on each foot with various colored beads. Her long, bohemian skirt was white with dark blue designs. The tank top she wore matched the colors in her skirt, and her full curls bounced as she shook her head. This woman who had caught his attention suddenly did a perfect cartwheel and laughed in the delight of it. Then she bent backwards where her body made a perfect arch, and he was mesmerized.

Holy fuck, she is flexible. Beau could tell every curve of her body by her movements alone. Suddenly tongue-tied with a dry throat, he took a long drink of his cold soda. As if she felt his stare, her wide almond eyes met his gaze, and a slow smile spread across her face. Unabashed, she waved, and Beau found himself waving back.  He swallowed when she moved toward him. Christ, every step she takes seems to be a dance.

Hi. Her voice was soft and husky. It reminded him of how a woman sounded when she woke up from a good night of fucking and rolled over to see the man who did it.

Hey. Beau cleared his throat and focused on his sandwich.

I’m always in this park, and this is the first time seeing you. She sat down across from him as casually as if they had known each other for years.

I’m a drifter, so I’m drifting through, Beau answered.

    Interesting, she said and stroked
