Meditation - Elias Axmar
Chapter 1 - What is meditation?
A synapse is the brain connection that stores our memories. Did you know that one synapse has space equivalent to 20 million four-drawer filing cabinets full of text, 13.3 years of HD video recordings or 4.7 billion books?
Enormous Potential
Humans are beginning to realize the immense potential that is hidden inside our brains. While most of us spend thousands of dollars on fitness or learning new skills like playing the guitar, there are only some of us who tap into the enormous potential of the human mind. Numerous studies have shown that meditation is a powerful tool that can unlock neuroplasticity.
Neuroplasticity refers to the formation of new neural pathways in the brain. With the help of new neural connections, our ability to deal with stressful situations increases, and we no longer succumb to our primal fight or flight response. Apart from this, other benefits such as decreased blood pressure, increased creativity, trauma healing and a general sense of well-being are quite common.
When we are grounded in our own being, dealing with multiple tasks comes easy as we act from a place of coherence. Coherence means that we can focus on the big picture even when we are bombarded by urgent tasks. But when we feel agitated inside, every task adds more stress to our system and we act from a place of fear. Meditation brings the consciousness to a state of restful alertness. In this state, while we feel deep rest, we are also perfectly alert.
Meditation can help you to move beyond the perceived limits. Your fears, guilt, hopes and dreams are all the creation of your own mind. While hopes and dreams often drive us and make us happy, unnecessary guilt and fears create a major hazard in the path of healthy living. Many people wallow in lower states of life experience where they often feel self-pity or disappointment. Some can’t even go through life without taking a pill to think clearly. We have learned to rely on medication for conditions like ADHD where one can’t focus on one thing at a time. The medical industry churns out billions every year, irrespective of the effectiveness of the actual treatment.
Meditation is a vehicle that takes us to our own origin. The goal of meditation is to reach a level of consciousness where the mind becomes silent and peaceful. It is an effortless and natural way to go into the state of restful alertness. In this state one goes beyond the thinking level and even beyond the intelligence level. This is a field of pure creativity and spontaneity. Meditation is best practiced at least once every day to unlock one’s full potential.
Benefits Backed with Research
Many studies have confirmed the benefits of meditation. When we experience the deep rest during meditation, our bodies undergo physiological changes which can be measured. For
