    CHAPTER 1

Willa was glad to begin her senior year of high school at a new school. Sorensen academy would give her some much needed relief from the sickening sight of her newly reconciled parents. She just wished she had asked to be sent to boarding school sooner, it would have spared her from having to witness them fall in love all over again.

Willa allowed her new roommate Geraldine to lead her to their first class of the day ,English.

Are people here nice?Willa asked, and then nervously bit her lip.

It's a school, some people are nice some are not. But don't worry too much about that, you’ll be fine Geraldine tried to reassure her. Just watch out for Mary Shelby, she a bit of a bitch, especially to newbies

I'll keep that in mindWilla said.

The duo entered the classroom, Geraldine took her usual spot in front of the class while Willa deliberately chose the free seat at the back, she wanted to lay low and just get through the year without causing any waves.

Willa was just settling in when her new English teacher Mr Schwann entered.

Settle down everyone! he tried to assert himself, but was met with little success as the assortment of students ignored his presence and continued their various conversations.

Quiet everyone! We have a new student joining us this year he said optimistically. Miss Radford, please come up here and introduce yourself

At Mr Schwann's announcement, everyone suddenly become quite and they stared curiously at her.

So much for laying low, she thought as she made her way to the front of the class. The last time she had done this had been in the first grade and she had not liked it any better then either.

Willa folded her arms behind her back and straightened in her usual fashion, as she began to address the class.

My name is Willa Radford, I’m seventeen. She said simply, not knowing what else to say.

    Loser! someone fake sneezed.

Willa kept her face impassive but mentally rolled her eyes. How original, she thought derisively.

Mr Schwann looked a bit disappointed at her short uninformative introduction. Is that all? he asked.

Willa nodded and Mr Schwann sighed. Alright, you may go back to your seat

She walked back and sat down glad that her spotlight moment was over.

As the English class commenced Willa couldn't help but notice the predatory glances some of her classmates were giving her. Both the girls and the boys. Willa suppressed a groan, she knew without a doubt that she was about to become a walking target, if she wasn't one already.

When her English class was over, Willa was approached by Geraldine.

Hey Willa said awkwardly to a silent Geraldine, who looked mildly pained.

    You're in trouble she said.

Willa froze. Why?Who am I in trouble with?she asked, even though she already had her suspicions about the who part.

With Mary Shelby. After your pathetic little intro, she is going to come after youGeraldine warned.

Willa decided to play dumb.I still don't get why I am in trouble

Geraldine sighed as she hooked her arm into Willa's and began to walk. You looked shy and weak.Mary is a bully, she will first try to turn you into her lackey and if you resist, she will relentlessly torture and humiliate you until you submit to her will

You can't be seriousWilla said, not quite believing her ears.

I'm dead seriousGeraldine answered.Listen newbie,I usually don't give warnings to other people but you are my roommate and I feel I should give you a fair heads up

I seeWilla said contemplatively. So what should I do?

Just try to avoid her as much as you can and don't draw attention to your self

Avoiding attention was my plan from the very beginning. But good ol' Mr Schwann decided to make me speak in front of the class.I don't think it will be possible for me to go unnoticed

You may be rightGeraldine acknowledged. But still, for your own good you should atleast try.

Thanks for the advice,I'll try my best to follow itWilla said with an appreciative smile, although she did not think Geraldine's suggestion would work.

Geraldine returned the smile and squeezed Willa's arm encouragingly, silently hoping her roommate would be okay.

    CHAPTER 2

Hi sueWilla absently spoke in the phone she was precariously balancing on her shoulder as she was pulling up her jeans.

Hi little cousin, she greeted. How are you finding the new school?Do you like it?

It's too early to tell, but so far so goodshe answered, plopping down on her bed.Why do ask?Did you see something?

    I did

    Well?Willa prompted,impatiently.

I saw you and some other girl cheating in a test

Is that it?Willa said, unimpressed.I've been cheating since preschool,so it's not exactly news to me if you saw me cheating in one of your visions

Sue paused momentarily.I also saw you with a bunch of other girls in a dark classroom

Your visions are not particularly interesting,Willa said. What are they even supposed to mean?

DunnoSue stated.I just sometimes dream shit up,I don't know their meaning. That is if they even mean anything at all

    Willa sighed.Well,thanks for telling me.Bye

    Wait!sue said quickly.

    What?

Don't forget to call your Mom,she told me you don't answer her calls.

    OkayWilla said noncommittally.

Seriously Willa, please call herSue insisted. She misses you

    Fineshe agreed grudgingly.

And your father as wellSue added.Call him

Not willing to give another inch but also not wanting to argue with her cousin,Willa ignored her last words.I'm going to dinner.Goodbyeshe said and hung up the phone immediately.

Willa felt guilty for ignoring her mother's calls but she was not ready talk just yet.She needed some time and space in order to centre her emotions, speaking to her mother before then would not lead to anything good.

She didn't feel guilty about not calling her father though. Her lying, cheating traitor of a father.Willa was not entirely sure she even loved him,he had hurt her mother so much and Willa felt that he had to pay for it somehow.

Willa walked to the dining hall slowly, her mind in turmoil as she thought about her family's troubled past.

Goodevening Willaa pretty brunette girl sitting by one the main tables greeted in a friendly manner.

    Good eveningshe anwered.

I'm Mary.Mary Shelby. And this is Gloria and Eliseshe said pointing to the girls next to her.

    Nice to meet you all

So how are you liking Sorensen Academy?

It's okay I guessWilla replied with a shrug.

Are you going to eat?Mary asked before Willa could move on.

YesWilla said carefully, wondering why she was being asked an obvious question.

Grab a plate of food for me as wellMary said in a sweet but commanding voice.

SureWilla said easily. What do you want to eat?

Mary waved her hand.It doesn't matter,I'll have whatever you are having

    Alright,I'll be right back

Willa walked to the food line and filled two plates with her favourite foods and then added a muffin on each plate.

She carefully carried a plate in each hand and then delivered one to Mary. Here you goshe said placing the plate in front of Mary.

Mary looked at the food, crinkled her nose and then pushed it to the side towards Gloria.Gloria in turn made a dramatic display of being nauseated before dumping the food at Willa's feet.

OopsMary said with a little smirk. My plate of food fell down accidentally.Could you get me another?

Willa's face remained blank as she looked first at the mess by her feet and then back at Mary. She didn't know what game the brunette was playing but she was not going to participate.

Willa walked off wordlessly, but before she got too far she heard Mary's voice again.Didn't you hear me newbie?I said get me another plate

You've got two working legs, you can go get it yourselfWilla threw over her shoulder, drawing the attention of more than a few surprised onlookers.

You're making a big mistake newbieshe heard one of Mary's minions say.

Keep calm,Willa told herself as she sat down next to Geraldine.

Everyone is staring at you she whispered to Willa.

Let them stareWilla said non-chalantly ,not bothering to lift her head to confirm Geraldine's statement.

I told you not to draw attention to yourself.Do you have any idea what's coming for you?

Willa was trying to enjoy her meal and she did not appreciate Geraldine's gloom and doom warnings.Whatever comes my way,I am sure I can handle it

Geraldine shook her head. You can't handle it,Mary is relentless and cruel. There is a reason why nobody messes with her

Willa leveled Geraldine a chilly stare. It almost sounds like you are scared of her

And so what if I am,I have good reasons to be scared

Grow a damn backbone!Willa said, betraying a bit of her disgust at Geraldine's cowardice. You are a prefect, you can't live in fear of one stupid girl

Geraldine remained silent,Willa knew she had hurt her friends feelings but she couldn't bring herself to feel sorry for what she had said.

I do have a backboneGeraldine said quietly but defensively.

    Then show itWilla challenged.

The rest of dinner was uneventful for Willa though she saw a few hostile eyes watching her.Mary clearly had great influence over the student body.Willa was no fool however, she knew that Geraldine's warnings were not entirely without merit, she just refused to be intimidated. She was going to have to watch her back from now on but if Mary thought she was going to humiliate her,she was going to find out who she really was, just like her father's whore had.

    CHAPTER 3

I'm gonna kill her!Willa screamed into her cell phone.

You need to calm downSue tried to reason with her cousin.and find a more healthy outlet for your anger

No way,Willa said.If anything,I have been too damn calm. And now insignificant little twats like Mary what's her face think they can mess with me and get away with it

Sue sighed through the phone. What did this girl even do to you?

This morning at breakfast, the bitch decided to trip me and I ended up covered in oatmealWilla complained. You know how I hate to be filthy!

Are you sure it wasn't just an accident?

It was no accident!Willa affirmed. That bitch did it on purpose.

Can't you just let it goSue suggested hopefully.

Letting it go is not an option. It would to set an unacceptable precedence that leaves me looking like an easy target

Please just let it goSue pleaded. This Mary girl is obviously an idiot and is not even worth the effort. So just forgive her

Considering some of the things you have done, you are in no position to preach to me about forgiveness

You're rightshe conceded.Let's just talk about something else then, shall we?

    Like what?

Like why you still haven't called your mother

Willa ran her hand through her hair, she did not want to talk about that either. We'll talk latershe said.

Don't you dare hang up on me Willa!Sue said urgently, realising what her cousin was about to do.

Willa ignored her cousin however and cut their connection.

Changinging into her other uniform quickly,Willa ran to her first class of the day, which she was now late for.

History class was Willa's favourite class, during a test she was not particularly good at remembering exact dates of when stuff happened but she was good at remembering everything else.It was like a long and interesting story to her,but unfortunately she found her learning experience sullied by having to be in the same room with Mary Shelby.Everytime she would try to concentrate she would unwittingly find her mind straying to fantasies of exacting vengeance.

By the time it was lunch time and her classes for the day ended,Willa opted to have her meal under a secluded tree by a large pond.

No doubt,Mary would believe she was hiding from her but she just didn'tfeel like having her meal ruined the way her classes had.

Hey there!Mind if I join you?

Willa lifted her head and saw a girl she recognised as one of her classmates. Not at allWilla said politely even though she really wanted to be alone.

The girl came closer and sat next to Willa on the picnic rug.

So you hiding down here or something?she asked in a thick southern accent.

    Why would I be hiding?

Because of Mary Shelby ofcourse. Everybody saw what happened last night in the dining hall and this morning at breakfastshe said.Mary is now on the war path

If she wants war,I'll give her a warWilla muttered.

Just so you know,I think what you did last night was real brave.I haven't seen anybody stand up to her since I got here, they're all too scared of her

Yeah,I noticedshe answered drily, taking a bite out of her sandwich.

My name is Harriet by the way,Harriet Barnesshe introduced herself. But thanks to Mary everybody just calls me hillbilly

Let me guessWilla began.Mary heard your accent, saw that your initials are HB and nick named you that?

Yep,that's exactly what happened. The name stuck so hard, nobody even knows my real name.I'm half scared it will end up on my tombstone

We should give her a nickname tooWilla suggested.

    Like what?

    I don't know,but I'll think of something

The two girls sat in comfortable silence for quite a long time, enjoying the light breeze that blew.

    Oh shitHarriet said.

What?Willa asked before turning her head to look at what Harriet was looking at.She saw Mary and her posse approaching them.Willa's mood darkened and she braced herself for a confrontation.

I missed you at lunch today newbieMary said.I hope you weren't trying to hide from me

Willa stood and faced Mary.Leaveshe said.

Mary raised her brow.I am not going anywhere

Willa's patience was running thin, despite appearances she was still mad as hell about the breakfast incident. Before she could think better of her decision she swung her hand across Mary's face.

Everybody was frozen for one surreal moment, not quite believing what they had witnessed.

Mary touched her smarting cheek in shock before she finally snapped out of it and lunged at Willa, tackling her to the ground.

The two girls wrestled and scratched at eachother's face.Willa climbed on top of Mary and landed more than a few firm smacks to her lovely face, before wrapping her hands around her neck.

Willa could her distant voices screaming but all she could concentrate on was the writhing pathetic girl beneath her whose face was starting to turn purple.

Mary tried to pry Willa's hands away fron her neck, but the other girl had Mary's neck in an unyielding iron grip.Mary's vision was getting blurry and her movements more weak.

Willa's face contorted in triumph as she saw the fear in Mary's eyes.

Willa did not get to see Mary about to pass out, because in
