About this ebook

Give into temptation in Cascade Falls as a fiercely driven woman stumbles unexpectedly into love with her best friend's younger brother.

Olympic hopeful, Coraleigh Whitestone, is at the end of her training season and looking forward to letting her body get some rest in her brand new loft apartment. It's a short lived reprieve when she agrees to let her best friend's irritating younger brother move in until he finds a place of his own.

Noah Walker just needs a place to crash for a few weeks until his parents no longer want to disown him for dropping out of college in his last semester to move home and start a micro brewery. His sister's uptight best friend is his only option, but at least she has a sweet place.

Cora is not at all prepared for how much Noah has changed since the last time she saw him, and her attraction to him knocks her carefully planned future off its tracks.

When she isn't being bossy or argumentative, she's watching Noah like she's three seconds away from ripping his clothes off and he begins to see an untamed side of her, stifled by her ambition, that proves she is not as put together as she appears to be.

Both of them are harboring deep rooted insecurities and the closer they get to each other the closer they come to facing their own fears.

Being in Topher's office was so neutral. Sure, it was his, but it wasn't emotional. It was carnal. It was hot. It was voyeuristic. It was a fantasy.

But as he stepped up behind her and slid his arms around her waist, kissing her shoulder and up her neck, she stared at the bed. In his home.

This wasn't just sex. It was intimacy.

    Part One

Coraleigh Whitestone stepped into her apartment for the first time since it had been fully furnished. The metal door slid loudly across the bar overhead and closed behind her with a thunk. She breathed in the beauty of the space, an old bottling plant warehouse turned into lofts; Cora was the first resident.

The building was owned by one of her biggest sponsors, The Saunders Corporation, a development firm in her small town of Cascade Falls. Ezra Saunders cut her a pretty steep deal on the apartment which was the only way she could afford the place.

She sifted through the stack of mail on the table beside the door and her heart picked up with excitement when she saw the logo of a company she'd been in contact with for months. A logo she desperately wanted on her uniform.

It seemed to take forever to walk from the open kitchen through the long living room to sink into the huge plush sectional couch. She opened the letter and took a breath just like she did before she'd fire her gun—to calm her nerves and channel her focus.

The paper crinkled as she unfolded it and read.

    Dear Miss Whitestone,

We are so pleased with your performance record and would be honored to meet you in person to discuss sponsorship opportunities for your Olympic efforts in the Biathlon. Please contact us to set up a meeting.

Cora flopped back on her couch, clutching the letter to her chest and absorbing the pure perfection she had managed to cultivate in her short twenty-seven years. She'd never worked so hard in her life as she had that winter and since things were winding down with training, she could focus on the second part of landing her spot at the Winter 2022 Olympics—networking.

Her life couldn’t be more on track.

The ring of her phone echoed through the twenty-five-foot tall space. She tapped it to speakerphone, still spread out on the couch watching her reflection shining back at her in the large TV screen.

    Hey, she said.

So, how is it? Everything you'd ever hoped? Her best friend, Kayla's voice sang through the speakers overlaid with a slight crackle indicating she was still on the road for her competition circuit overseas.

More. It feels so nice to be home. To have a home. She stared at the exposed piping and metal and glass lighting on the ceiling. Sunlight streamed in through massive windows on the east wall and she felt calm and secure in the space. Her adoptive parents had never owned a house, instead hopping from place to place as renters. Once she graduated high school, they bought an RV with their life savings and now followed the sun all over North America.

Cora loved her parents deeply, but they were straight up hippies. She never felt like she belonged in their world, and they never lied to her about her origin. A dark haired, brown skinned, clearly indigenous child in a house with two pure blonde pasty Scandinavian parents was pretty hard to explain with anything other than the truth.

I can't wait to come over and kick your ass at Halo, Kayla laughed and Cora detached from her memories to return to the conversation.

As if. Have you ever beat me at Halo? She taunted her best friend who laughed and then trailed out into awkward silence, which was not like Kayla at all. Uh oh. What's up Kayla? Spill.

Kayla was a world class mountain biker but the girl was terrible at her own PR.

I'm about to ruin your day, but know that I would never intentionally ruin anything of yours unless it was of absolute importance.

Cora sat up, tightening her grip on her phone.

    I need a favor, and it's huge.

Spit it out Kay, you're going to give me an ulcer. Cora clicked her thumbnail against her teeth.

Can my, uh, my brother crash at your place for a bit?

Cora tipped into confusion, her brain struggling to latch onto the words because they were the last words Cora would have anticipated.

Noah? she asked with a tilt in her voice. Isn't he in Canada?

No, he's home. He dropped out of college, and my parents just found out. They are pissed. Like write-him-out-of-the-will pissed. They threw him out of the house because they are the worst. He has nowhere to go.

What about Eric? Can’t he stay at your place? Cora asked, knowing she was treading on untested ice.

Eric and I aren't exactly speaking right now. I don’t want Noah in the middle of my break up drama. You are the absolute last option before homelessness.

Doesn't he have any friends in town he could crash with? Cora didn’t even try to hide how much she did not want Noah Walker living in her house.

He says he doesn’t. He can move to my place as soon as Eric moves out but that isn’t until the end of the month. Kayla let the true desperation in her voice come through and it hit Cora right in her love for her best friend. She sighed deeply, letting out an annoyed groan and Kayla squealed in delight saying thank you over and over.

Til the end of the month, Kay. And your brother's an ass. If he causes me any sort of disruption he's gone. I'm saying he can come here because I love you, but it's up to him to behave so he can stay. Cora pointed her finger sternly even though Kayla couldn’t see her.

I love you to the moon and back. I'll make it up to you. I promise, Kayla said and Cora grinned.

    You better.

Noah poured a full pint of the beer into a frosted glass, tipping it expertly to create the exact ratio of foam to beer. He slid the glass to the bartender.

It's a classic APA, he said feeling confident that the beer he brewed was a great tasting one but slightly nervous at the way Eddie eyed him.

"Didn't you like just turn twenty-one?" Eddie asked and Noah laughed, tapping his
