About this ebook
On a routine delivery mission, the crew of a merchant ship is suddenly attacked by an armada of undead soldiers aboard a swarm of ships under the control of Commander Brakka, an ancient zombie with highly advanced technology stolen from a long-dead civilization. The crew of the freighter struggles to stop the invaders, but they are quickly consumed by the massive hoard.
From one star system to the next, the zombie armada conquers all in its path, gobbling up everything and everyone who stands in its way. Despite its best efforts, the strongest galactic power, the Tioran Federation, is unable to stop Brakka’s overwhelming invading force.
Five crew members aboard the Starcruiser Galaxy, Captain Mintax, Engineer Glenda Ritan, Weapons Specialist Steve, Programming Specialist Jonn Brock, and Communications Specialist Andre “Goober” Gu’ber hold the only key that can stop Brakka from transforming galactic citizens into his zombie minions — or lunch for his crew.
As the facts unfold on Brakka’s ascension to power, the crew of the Galaxy learns of their involvement in creating the malevolent monster. To correct their mistake, the Galaxy’s crew must time travel to the past to a point before Brakka obtained his massive armada if they hope to defeat him in the future and set the universe right once again.

His desire to explore the unknown is born from a love of science fiction that began when he was but a mere seedling on another plane of existence. ABOUT ROD SPURGEON
As I’m sure you already know, we threw a party for your Tioran Federation friends, but they couldn’t handle the entertainment,
said Brakka. I thought I’d give you the chance to avoid their embarrassment and surrender. You and your crew can volunteer to join my fleet and rule the universe, as zombies of course, or I could just tear you and your ship apart and be done with you. The choice is yours.
If you think for one minute I’m going to let you transform my crew into your abominations, you’re even more insane than I thought,
Mintax replied.
Brakka bared his teeth in a sinister smile. I was hoping you’d say that.
CHAPTER ONE
A cacophony of explosions erupted on the bridge of the merchant vessel Tionga. Mangled metal flew in all directions, blanketing the bridge of the 30-year-old ship. The crippling blast flung two crewmembers away from their stations while the remaining crew ducked behind whatever cover they could find. The brutal, unprovoked attack on the ship knocked out main power, and emergency batteries were barely enough to maintain minimal life support.
Blood trickled from a jagged cut on the top of Captain Erons’s forehead, leaving a trail down the left side of her face. She did her best to prevent the fog of unconsciousness from consuming her mind, but she was losing the battle.
Why…why are you doing this?
Erons struggled to say to the man on the forward view screen. We’ve offered you everything we have. What more do you want?
The pale, partially bald man staring back at Erons with his single, malevolent eye remained silent for several moments, enjoying the defeat of his prey. I don’t need your ship or anything else on board. Your crew will satisfy my needs nicely.
One of the two main Tionga bridge access doors opened, and several men and women stormed inside. Moving faster than any normal person could, the pale individuals dressed in simple white clothing pounced upon the bridge crew and bound their hands and feet. Erons watched helplessly as the unknown force of thugs hauled her crew away.
What are you going to do with them?
she asked.
The one-eyed man smiled. My crew and I get hungry from time to time. A fresh snack now and then goes a long way.
Erons’s eyes opened wide with horrified shock. No! Please… Leave them alone. Take me instead,
she said. Her voice sounded strained, even to her ears. She fought to remain conscious, more concerned with the fate of her crew than her own.
Oh, we’ll be taking you too, but for a different purpose.
He nodded to one of his crew on the Tionga.
Two men grasped her by both arms, and Eron watched as a woman with long, white hair approached her carrying a dermal injector.
Erons made a feeble attempt to struggle loose, but her weakened state left her with little hope of success. What is that?
she asked.
It’s the modern way of transforming you into one of us,
the one-eyed man replied. You should be grateful. It wasn’t as simple and painless a process in the past as it is today.
Erons arched her back in pain as a white liquid pumped from the injector and coursed through her veins. Within seconds, her eyes clouded over and her skin tone lightened by several shades. After a few moments, she relaxed in her command chair, absorbing her newly transformed state of being.
My name is Brakka,
the one-eyed man said. Welcome to your new life. Come along now. We have a universe to conquer.
Erons smiled broadly at the man. Yes, my lord.
CHAPTER TWO
Goober, what are you doing?
Steve asked from his weapons control station aboard the Starcruiser Galaxy.
Goober relaxed in his ergonomically contoured, green and silver chair at the opposite end of the bridge and stared curiously at his stomach. He rapidly wiggled his midsection from side to side and monitored the results. I drank four Fizzywickles, and I can hear them splashing around inside my stomach. Pretty neat, huh?
He wiggled his torso again and smiled.
Steve contorted his face in disgust. Not really. You do know that you’re not supposed to have more than one of those per day, right?
He raised his eyebrows expectantly at the young science and communications specialist.
Goober considered Steve’s comment for a moment and shrugged. Well, we ran out of StimCap, and I usually have four of those, so I thought it would be okay.
As if on cue, his stomach broadcast a sickening noise. Goober immediately doubled over and placed his hands on his stomach. Maybe you’re right. I don’t feel so good.
Steve shook his head. The label on the bottle clearly said that having more than one of those things per day can cause severe cramping and bloating. You over-fizzed yourself, Goober. What were you thinking?
Goober tenderly rubbed his belly. His face became pale, and beads of sweat formed on his forehead. I think I’m going to be sick.
You know there’s no bathroom on the bridge. Can you hold it until we get to Puaneris Station in…
Steve checked the data readout on the main viewscreen and noted the time until they reached their destination, 10 minutes?
Goober’s face contorted into an uncomfortable expression. I don’t think so.
He immediately began to belch uncontrollably.
Steve sighed heavily. Fine. Get out of here. I’ll watch the bridge by myself.
Goober nodded and rose gingerly to his feet. Thank you. I’ll be right back.
He placed his left hand over his mouth in a desperate attempt to contain the volcanic activity bubbling up from
