About this ebook
Christmas is a time to enjoy close friendships, a loving family, and a tree towering high above a mountain of colorful presents. Getting those presents under the tree could be a challenge, however, as Santa’s ship is damaged while passing through a nebula. With his ship tumbling uncontrollably through space, and time quickly running out, Santa turns to the only hope of saving Christmas – the intrepid starcruiser Galaxy and its determined crew.
As the team races to save the day, an evil force bent on stealing Christmas attacks Santa’s ship. Armed only with candy canes, a generous helping of festive cheer, and a shiny string of jingling bells, the crew must find a way to repair Santa’s ship while fending off the cosmic scourge.
The fate of Christmas for the entire universe rests in the hands of Galaxy’s crew. Will those on Santa’s “nice” list receive their presents this year? Or will the forces of evil triumph and seize the holidays for their own nefarious purposes? Find out in A Very Goober Christmas.

ABOUT ROD SPURGEON
This is a ship of peace,
Chris said to the pirate commander. Please let us go so I may continue my mission of bringing happiness to the universe. It is through acts of kindness and generosity that the good people of this vast universe can come together, if at least for one night, and share the uniting force of goodwill with each other. Your act of kindness, by releasing us, will certainly bring warmth to your heart, and you shall know the joys this wonderful cosmos has to offer.
Bah,
said Commander Krax. He dismissed the suggestion with a wave, as if warding off a pesky insect. You can shove your peace. I want your ship. Open your hangar and prepare to be boarded, or this Christmas will be your last.
CHAPTER ONE
So what did you ask Santa for this year, Steve?
Andre Goober
Gu’ber, the young communications specialist aboard the Starcruiser Galaxy inquired. He plunged a fork piled high with freshly poached, orange eggs into his mouth while he waited for a reply.
Steve, the Galaxy’s weapons expert, lifted a piece of black toast smothered in purple krellberry sauce to his mouth when he paused and stared across the unadorned, polished metal table at his shipmate. Yeah, right,
he replied and chomped down on his food. Don’t tell me you still believe in Santa Claus. How old are you again?
An overstuffed mouth full of food partially muffled his voice.
Goober opened his mouth to reply when the Galaxy’s engineer intervened.
Didn’t your parents ever teach you not to speak with your mouth full?
Hitch asked. She grimaced at a thin line of purple sauce oozing down Steve’s dark chin. "How old are you again?"
Steve wiped away the mess from his face with a black cloth napkin. Why are you so interested in my mouth? Does it fascinate you that much?
He winked at her.
Hitch placed a fork full of food back onto her plate and pushed the square, white dish away. Her face contorted into an unpleasant expression. I think I just lost my appetite.
Well, if that’s the case...
Steve shoved his empty plate aside, reached across the table, and grabbed hers. I’d hate to see this go to waste.
She narrowed her hazel eyes at him and opened her mouth to reply when Goober interrupted.
I’m hoping for the new novel from Jerry Starchaser. I heard that Johnny, my absolute favorite android in the series, learns he has a secret mecho-twin enslaved by the evil Nimar Corporation to work the mines on the lava planet Welgus. He’s supposed to take a shuttle to the planet to investigate when he’s captured and forced to work with his brother and the other captured androids. The whole thing is about how they plan their escape and free themselves from Welgus. I can’t wait to read it! What did you want from Santa this year, Hitch?
He scraped up the last of the eggs on his plate and shoved the oversized pile into his mouth with a satisfied smile.
Hitch briefly considered the question before replying. Besides a gag for him,
she pointed her thumb at Steve who promptly held up his hands in a ‘who me’ gesture, I think I’d like to see my parents again. I haven’t seen them in more than 20 years and, well, I miss them.
Goober’s messy brown hair shifted when he tilted his head in concern. Why so long? Did something happen?
She opened her mouth to reply, closed it upon reflection, and started again. It’s complicated. Let’s just say they’ve been unavailable.
Goober considered her answer and nodded. That’s a good Christmas wish. I hope it comes true.
Thank you, Goober. So do I.
The double doors of the Starcruiser Galaxy’s once posh but now Spartan Stargazers Lounge slid open and Captain Mintax strode in. The crew immediately noticed concern etched in his features.
Is something wrong, Captain?
Hitch asked.
Mintax’s tight, black t-shirt barely contained his large, muscular frame. He stopped in front of the table and nodded, sliding his hand along the smooth surface of his bald head in frustration. We just picked up a distress signal and it seems that we’re the only nearby ship that can help. Of course, it has to be tonight of all nights.
He sighed. "There goes our plan for a merry Christmas
