    Our closing hymn today is number 512, said the pianist into the microphone.

    Shine in your church gathered today," harmonized everyone.

    I love this song! thought ten-and-a-half-year-old Caithlin.

    When the song ended, the Ross family walked into the Family and Youth Center that joined the church. This was where Adam and Caithlin talked to their friends after Mass. Caithlin’s brother, Adam, breathed in the smell of fresh spring flowers coming in from outside. He scanned the room and saw Ella Brooks standing beside a life-sized statue of the Holy Family.

    With disappointment, Adam noticed Caithlin rush over, shouting, Ella! Ella! Caithlin waved her hands in the air until Ella noticed her.

    Oh, brother, Adam muttered. Every time Adam saw Ella at Mass or school, he got a weird feeling. His stomach kind of hurt, his knees shook, but his chest felt warm and fuzzy-ish. Ordinarily his cheeks felt hot, and once a feeling of lightning even flashed through his body. Adam wanted to have a conversation with Ella, but Caithlin always rushed in.

    Adam shuffled toward the little huddle and said, Hi, Ella.

    Hey, Adam! Ella said with a smile in Adam’s direction. Are you excited to go to Lynx Lake with your troop this afternoon?

    Well… Adam began as he put his hands in the pockets of his navy-blue dress pants.

    It’s gonna be awesome! Caithlin interrupted. Can’t wait to see you there!
