About the Author Althea is awarded author, coach and teacher of Ba Zi Chinese Astrology. Her formal studies carried her through south-east Asia studying with best masters and learning her craft. She worked tirelessly to unpack the ancient knowledge of these systems, which had for so many centuries been carefully concealed. All this time, she put her theory into practice in her own life. Chinese Astrology for Health and Wellbeing - Althea S.T.
The Importance of Health
When we’re healthy, we have enough energy (Qi) as it flows smoothly throughout our bodies. In a healthy body, all organs function at their optimum level, this is when we’re well centered. This physical balance helps us to handle the numerous challenges we face in our daily lives, by supporting us to restore equilibrium, even after we’ve experienced some really stressful times.
However, when overwhelmed by daily life, sometimes we forget how important health is, and give priority to other things. It is not only that work, career, relationships and family absorb the most of our energies, but the time we could use for ourselves - we spend watching TV and on the internet.
One day we just wake up with a realization that we have already been living with a high blood pressure, or an unstable glucose level for a while. That our occasional weight gain, water retention, fatigue, tachycardia, back pain or thyroid problem, has become a chronic issue. The time when these symptoms were strange and not a part of our lives is long forgotten because they’ve become entrenched in our present and we’ve come to consider them ‘’normal’’. We can start to notice our health once the symptoms have worsened and have started interfering with our daily lives. We can also see these health issues experienced by our family members, friends, neighbors and/or colleagues in ways that can shake our worlds, reminding us that our bodies are fragile and that they come with an expiration tag and without instructions to use!
Can we permit ourselves to forget that our bodies require constant attention? Should we wait until bodily ailments start interfering with our daily lives before we act? Surely it would be wiser to be more attentive and respectful towards our very own biological machines, so as not to miss the right time for action!
Sometimes, we look up at others, who happen to have a really strong constitution, we copy their ways because it may seem to us that they don’t take special care of nutrition or physical exercise and that they are doing just fine. We like the idea that there are some individuals who have never visited a dentist, but who still have strong, healthy teeth and gums. Or we might hope that we are just like those who have never had a flu, angina, or any other type of the common physical ailment…
Strong Constitution, Weak Constitution
Your bodily constitution matters; it defines your health and how much time you should spend taking care of your body. Some people, despite having a strong constitution, are troubled with various psychological patterns (can be also seen as a part of inherited Qi), which makes them over consume food and/or drink or do other things which might hurt their health over time.
Do you have a strong constitution, or is your constitution very sensitive - creating various health issues in your life? Maybe you’re the type of person who catches a cold as soon as you’re exposed to a cold wind, or maybe you suffer from allergies; or spend every Sunday in bed, due to severe migraine attacks. Should you be concerned about sciatica pain, which wakes you up every other night?
Unfortunately, there are no definitive answers when it comes to one’s health.
The ultimate wisdom of life is that our bodies differ; hence, some have healthier teeth and gums and skin free of cellulite, while others fight with periodontopathic issues and orange-peel skin. We all know some skinny and fit individuals who eat what they want, like we know others who have to count calories and avoid bread and pasta, just to maintain their weight. Also, while some people can fall asleep in an instant, others fight with sleeping issues their whole lives. Not to mention the people whose bodies just tend to create gallbladder or kidney stones, autoimmune diseases, strange cells, etc.
What’s important is that we acquire knowledge about our bodies, and be alert at all times in order to spot imbalances, research our options, take action, and find ways to get back on track while we still can…
Health is the absence of illness
According to Wikipedia, health is the state of being free from illness. However, this particular freedom is very hard to win in the modern world. The absence of a diagnosis doesn’t necessarily imply that we are
