Emily awoke to the patter of rain on her bedroom window.
She lay still with her eyes shut and listened to the sound of it, enjoying the weight of Kevin’s arm draped over her waist. The warmth of his body next to hers, holding her in a loose embrace, was something she had come to crave in the mornings now—like other people needed coffee.
It actually made her smile a bit. Regardless of how they fell asleep—and very often, their activities left them all over the place—they always woke up in the same position, with both of them curled up on their side and Kevin cradling her from behind.
