About this ebook

Knowing that your essence possesses a primordial power that is connected to all that is can change your life, but only by understanding and tapping in can that power be realized. In the book, Confession of a Gradient Spirit, the author draws from several ancient Eastern and Western texts, modern day wisdom, as well as, her own recollections of her near-death experience to provide information to elevate your consciousness.

Confession of a Gradient Spirit is a compilation of lessons learned in retrospect of a significant emotional evident supported by various ancient texts. It is a recognition and acceptance of an event so profound that only by suppressing the information that periodically floated into her now was she able to move forward to some degree. However, at some point she felt it was as though she was called out to reveal her findings per-se. After all, life is not the destination but the journey. Her revelations started first with me accepting, then actively listening, and afterward seeing and recognizing the value of every human being and every interaction. I had to accept my journey. The book is recognition of the journey and the lessons that resonated the most during the years. By providing this body of work that took years to synchronize, I am humbled to be the vehicle that presence this information in such a way to bring about life affirming change.

Confessions of a Gradient Spirit - Harolyn J. Ingraham Ph.D.

    Author

    Preface

"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new."

    – Socrates

As a Vietnam era nurse, having serviced soldiers returning, it was at that time I first experienced a near-death confession from a returning soldier. Resulting from that, my life was forever changed. Presently, there have been over twenty-five million near-death experiences worldwide, and a myriad of scientific information supporting them. The near-death experience can happen at any time to anyone, anywhere, and it is a profound psychological event. Within the military environment, we are either training for conflicts or performing activities in preparation for conflict. Even with risk management procedures, in a hazardous environment, incidences happen. There is a great need to not only increase the awareness in our military services but throughout the world, in all walks of life. Additionally, we need to address the coping processes for individuals having experienced such an ordeal. Sometimes the health care providers may not recognize the experience, or may not know what to do about the experience.

I met Harolyn during an IANDS Near-Death Conference in Washington, D.C. She was producing a segment on the local public TV station on the International Association of Near-Death Experience Studies. Her attendance was two-fold: not only was she interviewing a select group of international experiencers to increase the public awareness, but she was satisfying her personal curiosity as an experiencer herself. Therefore, when she later informed me about her book, I was thrilled to assist in her desire to increase awareness of the near-death experience.

Confessions of a Gradient Spirit is an eloquently written, life-affirming psycho-spiritual self-help book, which is a must read for anyone going through any of life’s changes. But most especially, the book speaks to millions of individuals who still flounder in the wake of their experience. The book is a powerful and compelling communication tool that broadens one’s perspective. It is filled with ancient wisdom and compassion. In this book, Harolyn captures the fundamental cornerstones for a purpose-filled life. It is layered with instrumental insight and resilience building tools. This book, Confessions of a Gradient Spirit, is a must read for everyone on their spiritual journey.

    The Incident

If you want to succeed, you should strike out on new paths, rather than travel the worn paths of accepted success.

    – John D. Rockefeller

Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire. This is your moment. Own it.

    Oprah Winfrey

    Dream Comes True

After many years of burning the candle at both ends and getting seemingly nowhere, it looked as though my time had arrived. After all, the job of a soldier was twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. Who was I to think I could get my degree at night? If only I could have gotten a better assignments—something other than Infantry Divisions. However, even with my actions of acquiring a few credits from the schools at this duty station, and then a few more at another duty station, I heard of a possible better way. That was all I needed: a possible alternative to begin to believe that I could complete the goal of a four-year degree.

So I threw my hat in the ring with 10,000 others, and I won a scholarship to a great university. I was elated. I would no longer have to study at night after working long days into the night, while starting my day at the break of dawn. I would no longer have to create excuses to leave work for a power nap. I would finally be the first in my combined families to go to college—a self-imposed goal. College wasn’t something that rated high in a family with their God-given talents for music and ministry, in which I was not lucky enough to possess. I guess I was in a different line when they handed out those talents. But sometimes in life you have to make a different path, and hear a different drummer drumming. And sometimes, since your steps on your path are different, you have to realize it is lonely when you forge ahead.

I was excited, curious, and happy. Regardless of the requirements of the military science component, I was flexible, elated, and willing to learn. I could not wait to see what I had gotten myself into, and I was ready for the transition. I was ready for change: the preparation for Advance Camp, the culmination of readiness, and the theatre where the schools compete to see whose cadets are the most prepared. Which school’s cadets could have the highest average on the physical fitness test, or be the best in land navigation, leadership, etc.? You are ready because, if not, you would not be selected to go. I was pleased to have made the marks. But making the mark was no match for the surprise elements lurking in the woods of the North Carolina wilderness.

    Dream Goes Wrong

There was only two weeks left to completion of this all essential training. The training at hand was on building a foxhole that would sustain long-term fighting in combat. Digging a foxhole in compliance with the Army Regulation for long-term sustainment requires you to dig up to armpit level. My six-foot frame required me to dig approximately five feet. I dug with zeal and a smile. I was commended for my attention to detail and my attitude while digging. However, during that digging was where I met my most vicious adversary. Prior to this event, I had maximized every event. I had received a perfect score on my physical fitness test. I had displayed courage throughout the challenging training: when rappelling (face first) from the 200 foot tower, negotiating the 40-foot rope drop, and even enduring the 70-foot slide for life. It was Thursday, July the 2nd, the beginning of a four-day holiday weekend. The long-term survival foxhole training was my last official act prior to leaving the area; I was looking forward to having another wonderful Independence Day, in Washington, D.C. I was also looking forward to resting on my accomplishments and receiving my gold bars in approximately two weeks. But once I got home, all of that changed.

During the six-hour drive back, I was excited; my friend Theresa and I discussed our plans for the holiday weekend. However, once I got home, I began to feel very weak, hot, and sweaty. After getting even weaker, we took my temperature, and it was determined to be north of 103 degrees. I was immediately rushed to the emergency room, where it was determined my temperature was actually 104.5. I was immediately admitted and placed on the internal medicine ward. Once on the ward, I was placed on a refrigerated bed, across from the nurse’s station. An entourage of doctors examined every inch of my body, looking for a sign of why the condition existed. There was much talk about how my temperature could get so high. Where had I been? What was I doing? The more questions they asked, the more I felt myself slipping. I don’t remember being prepped, or what procedures they did. All I remember was that they were working fiercely to reduce my temperature. I don’t remember if my coma was induced or if I merely fell asleep.

During the near-death state, or alternative state of existence, one returns to Source, where true healing is possible. Oftentimes, it is not necessary to return directly to Source, because the closer you get, the more healing energy is provided. While in the coma, I was told that I was being monitored daily by a staff of doctors, but even the doctors knew they had done all that they could for me. Collectively, they acknowledged three things: I had been in an outdoor training environment; I had come from North Carolina, a state known for their malicious and often lethal tick population; and I had various rashes and spotty formations on my skin upon initial examination, in keeping with the dreaded Rocky Mountain spotted fever. One can only conclude that even medical professionals understand that at some point it is out of their hands, and they are limited in their ability to heal.

As spiritual beings, what you see when you look at others is only the tip of the iceberg. You exist on several planes of existence, all the time. The numbers of planes differ, based on the awareness of the person addressing the questions. Oftentimes, the answer given is anywhere from three to nine levels. However, my experiences revealed that regardless of the number, our body does connect to Source. Even though there are several planes, it is the free flow of energy through the planes that enables us to manifest health, wealth, or any other thing we desire on this plane of existence.

    Multidimensional Existence

As spiritual beings, the underpinning of man’s existence is the spectrum of the multi- dimensional existence. There are seven planes of existence. Seen and unseen forces of the cosmos are bound by vibrations, beliefs, and frequencies. The slowest speed of vibration, and the densest, is the physical plane. The highest plane of creation, of the seven, is the Monadic plane; it’s pure energy, where the soul emerges with the totality of the universe. The following is a list of the planes of existence, from the slowest vibration to the highest vibration: (1) Physical Plane, (2) Astral Plane, (3) Causal Plane, (4) Unity Plane, (5) Spiritual
