Rescue Me - A Fake Engagement Romance - Elizabeth Morgan

    Chapter One

I DON’T KNOW WHAT I’m going to do, Linda said. There’s no way I can pay off this wedding debt. She pushed her glasses up as she wiped at her eyes. She looked around the coffee house hoping no one noticed that she had been crying.

I feel like this is my fault, Betty responded. If I hadn’t introduced the two of you, you would have never met, and you wouldn’t be in this situation.

It’s not your fault. You had no way of knowing he was going to basically leave me at the altar and run off with his old girlfriend.

What a pig. I mean really. I’ve matched a lot of couples since I opened my matchmaking service, and he looked really good on paper, but I guess you just never know.

Like I said, it’s not your fault. I fell head over heels the moment I met him. Shows you what a terrible judge of character I am.

Betty looked at her friend. Even with red eyes from crying and no makeup, Linda was still a beauty. Even though she tended to hide behind her loose, tie-dye tops and crazy hippy jeans she had a great figure and a natural beauty with her creamy complexion and dark auburn hair. I still don’t know what to say. I’d help you pay off the wedding debt if I could. I just don’t have that much extra cash.

You and me both. What really gets me is that I would have never spent $50k on a wedding if he hadn’t pushed me. He said he would pay for everything. That he just wanted me to have a special day. Now, I’m looking at bankruptcy and being homeless.

It’s not going to come to that. We’ll figure out something.

I better. I can’t believe I quit my job. Greg’s like, oh you don’t need to work. You can just have fun. I’ll take care of everything. Now I can’t even pay my bills let alone all this debt. I am such an idiot. Linda stood and stretched her 5’8" frame and walked over to get a refill from the barista behind the counter. The woman handed her the full cup and Linda thanked her with a nod of her head and walked back to the corner table where Betty waited for her.

This is a nice place, cozy, friendly people. Maybe I could get a job here, Linda said.

Sure. That would at least help cover your monthly expenses.

    "It’s definitely not a long-term solution.
