The Bunny's Story - Dusty Henn

    The Bunny’s Story

    Chapter I

It was the first day of spring. The sun was shining, the temperature was warm, little flowers and a few fruit trees had started to bloom. I invite Honey Bunny, my steady date at the time, to come out and run through the forest with me. We hopped down the hill, listening to the birds sing, chasing one another through the underbrush, nibbling grass, enjoying the beginning of the finest season of the year. In just a few weeks it'll be Easter, I told her. I get to make my yearly deliveries. Would you like to carry some of the eggs this year?

I'll have to check my calendar, she told me. It sounds like fun. I'll see if I can make it.

Be sure to let me know. I can pick out some of the best locations for you to deliver eggs. Down by the park, for instance; over next to the golf course; I have several favorites you might like. Shall we hop on over and take a look, just for fun?

Why not? I've got nothing else going on this afternoon, she said.

OK. Let's go to the park. It's down the valley and across the creek...

I know where it is. It's shorter if we follow the road. Why don't we run along this paved highway? It'll take us down there, she responded.

OK, That's fine with me, I said. Just remember, the humans sometimes drive cars along here, and I've heard they can be dangerous.

Do you see any cars? Hear any? Smell any? I don't think there are any today, she said. Let's not worry about them unless they show up.

Just the same, let's stay near the edge of the pavement, so we can jump off if anything appears. Better safe than sorry, I said to her. You stay close to the shoulder, OK, and I'll run beside you."

So we hopped along the road, down the hill, past fields and orchards, past goats and llamas grazing in pastures; past humans' houses, past gardens and flowerbeds, laughing and talking as we made our plans for Easter.

We moved up a small hill, and started down the other side. Off to the right were fruit
