Chapter 1

Do you have any idea why I have called you into my office?

Ash swallowed hard. He tried think about the myriad of random reasons that the school principal, Mr. Hardwick had asked him to meet him after the last bell rang for the day. In the almost three months since Ash had been a substitute teacher at Woodbridge High he'd never been summoned to the principal's office. Whatever it was, it wasn't going to be good. That much was clear.

Um, I really don't have any idea. Is there a problem? Ash asked.

His voice was raspy and barely came out in a whisper. His throat felt like the Sahara desert. He found it almost impossible to sit still in the chair, his body squirming and his hands fidgeting almost nonstop. Taking a few deep breaths did little to calm him down.

Well, I'm afraid it has come to my attention that something very inappropriate has been going on, Hardwick continued. He drew the words out in a long, breathy monotone, pausing at the end to raise his eyebrows and give Ash a strong and accusatory stare down.

Ash felt sweat rolling down his back. His pulse was almost racing thundering along through his veins and pounding up the side of his head in shockwaves. Why wouldn't this jerk just get to the point already? Did he enjoy seeing him squirm that much?

I'm sorry, Ash asked. Inappropriate?

As soon as the word left his lips he knew exactly why he was there. It was all going to come out. His worst fears had suddenly been realized and come to life.

I'm sure you know a student named Vanessa Chambers, Hardwick said.

This wasn't happening. This was not happening.

Yeah, I've got her in English Composition. Very bright girl, Ash said.

Yes, she is. But I'm beginning to wonder how bright you are.

Ash took a deep breath.

Finally he just blurted it out. What is going on?

Hardwick paused for a beat and then spoke in that same slow monotone.

A student has reported to us recently that you and Vanessa Chambers are having an affair.

And there it was. Ash felt as if he were about to fall out of the chair in a dead faint. He knew that this was going to happen. But he couldn't help it. The moment he saw the vibrant, eighteen year old beauty walk into his English class the first day he felt a want and desire like he'd never known.

He was a twenty-two year old man with the strong lust that came with being that age and here was an amazing girl with the most perfect, angelic face, a curvaceous body that would make a swimsuit model jealous, and the infectious personality that could charm the deadliest snake. He was hooked from the moment he met her. The second she spoke to him, the first look from her to him when their eyes met, it was on. And it was magic. The last thought that ever crossed his mind when he started teaching at Woodbridge filling
