About this ebook
Raven was born into an ancient clan of mounted assassins who could infiltrate and destroy an enemy fortress in the dead of night while never being seen or heard. But what secrets are uncovered that could bring her so close to the edge......
“Life can be as fragile as water. Yet water can overcome a storm?”
The mist descends around them. It comes in search of souls and fools who think they can travel without harm. “It is changing every part of us, you know this, so why are we here?”
“Paradise to the depths of nothingness.”
“You lot talking about love again?”
“As always, the moral ground bullshit.”
“So, we live in an age of kill or are killed. I grow curious with talk of dualities - let us have a toast. To new beginnings.”

I love to write everyday. My characters take on a life of their own as do the stories. Life is all about stories and there are endless possibilities everywhere you look. Everyday is a new story. People, places, moments, memories all become some kind of story. I feel writing is an escape from ourselves and we are only limited by our imagination.I have always been interested in language and writing and feel a sense of freedom through my writing which I hope those who read my books will find amusing. Humor is the spice of life and I always try to integrate funny moments with a touch of everything else in between.Martial Arts, weapons and adventure are all part of who I am and therefore they are a huge part of my writing. So are the people who become chapters in my books. I welcome anyone who wants to be a chapter via an alias name to see themselves come to life in print. Enjoy! DE King

Chapter 1 - Whispers of the breeze
The air shimmered and an amulet of green lay before the eyes of a young warrior princess. A deep rumbling voice inside her mind reverberated until it had her full attention.
<The provinces between Belvista and the perimeter of the Ancient Forest into the mist shall be yours. Guards will be in your employ and you are responsible for all of the horses and other creatures who dwell in the forest mist and beyond until it is time to move on>
<Wait for Blu Ren and you will know>
<A Viking lover you must take.>
<Go to Vikings pass, leave this day .Ride until the northern wind releases your hair and the amulet glows.>
<Yes, he waits for you to return and whispers sweet music for your ears to follow>
<Yes, he waits for you, his lover, and sends whispers in the breeze to touch.>
Legend says that the princess was betrayed, and both were cast out into the mist. Some have seen her, as a ghostly figure looking out over treacherous waters, waiting for her lover to save her.
The Serpent Viking cannot leave the water and his agony for eternity is that he can only see his princess from deep beneath a cursed watery prison.
The Blu Ren comes when an amulet has chosen, though it happens rarely. A seeker is destined to follow an unwritten code handed down through the linage of seers and seekers who have magical amulets and abilities.
In tales they ride magical beasts into the mist and can be seen flying in the clouds. They say it begins in the whispers of the breeze, like the wisp of a dream just at the edge of reality....
Chapter 2 - Raven Sparrow
Raven was born into an ancient clan of mounted assassins who could infiltrate and destroy an enemy fortress in the dead of night while never being seen or heard.
Night raids by enemy clans were common. Guards on lookout surrounded the perimeters and gardens of the Castle.
Elite mounted archers dominated the war against rival Lords from the North. Lords travelled through each Provence in the district, enforcing the introduction of tariffs. Each village could only send a certain amount of supplies by carriage, any more and they needed to pay the extra tariffs...
A Dark Lord, called Nethious, of the Northern Provence stole much of the villagers’ land as many of the villagers were too poor to pay the high tariffs and taxes thus leaving the poor unable to plant annual crops.
Little Raven Sparrow’s battle preparation literally began at the time of her birth in the stables. Just before her mother, the Fox was to duel an evil goddess who worked for Lord Nethious.
Snow fell over the landscape, creating a blanket of white. Raven was born just before midnight and her first connection with the animal world was with a newborn foal. The foal would not leave little Raven’s side. Happily tucked away in her mother’s furs as mother horse stands guard, ready to fight to the death if anyone entered.
Ancient maps, said to contain hidden tunnels to an ancient gateway, had vanished for hundreds of years. Many had tried and failed to locate clues to the deadly mystery of the forest.
Creatures of the ancient lands always illuminated any threats either by unique distress calls or the lack of them. The Fox trained Raven from an early age on how to distinguish the unique messages of each animal, especially the birds.
Fox was adept in all manner of combat both on and off the battlefield. Fox insisted the castle walls be fortified with precious metals and crystals along with massive drawbridges operated at two vantage points inside the moat house.
Hidden spikes and razor wire hidden in the moat wait patiently to be set alight by flaming arrows.
The Fox provided villages with horses, bred for battle or working with their handler in the fields, so there was plenty of food throughout the freezing winters. Fox also ensured that the Provinces in her lands would not pay extra tariffs or taxes.
For many years, there had been peace with only minor vagrancy issues. Crops were plentiful and that left more time to ride with the wind without a care.
During quiet times, people trained diligently with all sorts of wooden and metal weapons. Everyone within the Castle walls were well able to protect against mercenary attacks by rivals or if the dark should rise.
Fox was pleased with how Raven had grown into not only a formidable warrior, but also how she exuded feminine qualities with the grace of a flower opening its petals for all to behold.
Raven’s rigorous schooling began early each day, as every conceivable activity blended much like a ballet or an orchestra with each part in perfect harmony. Whether it was accuracy in archery or martial combat or dancing elegantly with seamless grace, Raven adapted perfectly. Target acquisition meant Raven had a clear advantage on or off the battlefield.
She liked to push herself in training, so began riding wielding heavy claymore swords given to her by a Viking Warrior when she was a girl.
This blade heavy and more of a challenge than your lighter blades,
the Viking told her as he rode into the forest mist.
Will I see you again?
Raven asked
I will find you when you are ready to ride alongside me in battle. Look after the horses and beware of the Tengu in the mist. He will track your every move, young Raven.
What is Tengu?
Ask Fox, she will tell you.
Tanfer Warriors stood strong and fought alongside the Fox. Their horses were fearless and able to adapt in any situation. Fox enjoyed inflicting pain during training sessions when new warriors travelled from other provinces. She would put on stable clothes and challenge the biggest bullies in the group. After beating every strong young warrior, she would choose her favourite and have him sent to her quarters immediately.
Fox could make the air shimmer around unsuspecting warriors. They were her playthings while the King was away.
Don’t judge a book by its cover,
she would say to her newest conquest as each would find out the Fox had seduced them on and off the battlefield. Raven used to squeal in delight each time Fox sliced a watermelon or pineapple in half.
Really, my sweet, is this necessary?
Her father would ask.
Oh, don’t be such spike in the mud,
Fox would say, beaming at her King.
Ah, my Fox, come let us go to our secret place; I ache for you before I must leave again, for the Northern Army are descending to take land.
Of course, I shall meet you when I’ve changed into something more suitable. I will miss your touch, my King.
It was the last conversation she remembered over hearing between her parents as she had walked their horses out into the yard for them.
The King travelled from province to province defending against mercenary invasions and opportunistic sand shadows. He was often gone for months on end without word. This time it had been years since the Northern Armies invaded and still no victory whispers travelled on the breeze.
Chapter 3 - The meeting
Raven sensed her guest had arrived before
