In “Her”, the main character, Sam, is haunted by his past mistakes that take shape as his former lover. Lost in a world of shame and regret, Sam begins to lose hope of making things right. An unexpected visit will reshape all his conceptions.

The story “Emily” takes place in a trapped elevator. Emily is hostage to an eccentric and talkative captor, Hayden. Captor and captive have a civil conversation on motive and power. Although Hayden holds the weapon, Emily proves that power can come in many shapes and forms, but can require deadly consequence.

“Raging River” is about a defiant young woman, River, who is consumed by passion. River’s parents are all about simplicity and practicality, but she has her eyes on the up and up. She is easily influenced by the rogues and thieves of the night to take the darker path to fortune. How far can she pursue this passion until it pushes her over the edge? She will become someone she cannot control.

“A Cold Night”, taking place in the same world of “Raging River”, follows River as she discovers the reality of the darkness surrounding her. River seeks comfort from a trustworthy friend and companion, Cassius, after she finds herself cold and alone. This story reveals aspects of longing to belong somewhere and unrequited love.

The only light that shone was from the luminous, white light of the open fridge. It cast shadows around the messy room surrounding him. Dishes lay forgotten on the countertops and tempted a group of flies buzzing overhead. A thin layer of dust coated the surfaces and was inhaled into irritated lungs.
