Foreword
After the Almighty God had created the world, the environment was perfectly clean and in its natural state. However, due to domestic likewise industrial human activities, the immediate surroundings of humans started to deteriorate which resulted in waste and unpleasantness. Through the concept of innovation, people identified what is called sanitation to ensure that the living environments alongside the workplaces are beautiful and pleasant in order to prevent diseases, sicknesses, likewise prolong the life span of mankind.
As a result, there was the need to organize people for neat and nice surroundings which began at the community then to national, and international level. The idea specifically received a top priority when in 2002 189 countries met at the UN headquarters in New York and adopted the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as strategies for global development. The key among them in respect of sanitation management is the MDG 7 that is concerned with environmental sustainability.
This background made it essential for the author to produce the textbook to enable persons to embrace the urgent need of keeping their environments clean. The first chapter of the book deals with the nature of sanitation whilst the next relates to the importance of the concept. Besides, waste which is the main cause of unsanitary conditions is discussed that indicates the domestic and industrial forms. Furthermore, the text highlights the authorities which are responsible for promoting environmental cleanliness. Moreover, the laws and regulations which are required to monitor also compel humans to accept the notion of improving their environments.
Since we live in a global money economy, nothing could be done without funds, so financing is included. The chapter indicates the sources and percentages of budgets which should be allocated for sustaining the original state of our surroundings. More so, facilities that are appropriate to undertake this exercise smoothly are enumerated and their uses provided. Finally, the benefits that are derived if sanitation management is successful, as well as sustainable, are provided for readers to appreciate the relevance of improved sanitation situation.
