Some Kids Are Blind is an informational beginner reader book by Lola M. Schaefer. This early intervention level 10 reader explains what being blind means, why a person may be blind, and gives insight into their everyday lives. This book would be a great edition to any library, and would be a good independent reading choice for children. It explains that children who are blind are just like them. They like to have fun and in no way does blindness hinder their ability to communicate with their friends. Blind children can still ride a bike and read special books in Braille. Some children may be caught off guard when they come into contact with someone who can’t see; something that is second nature to them. This book will help them to understand that while those that are blind may need to approach things a different way, they can do all the same things seeing people can do.
