About this ebook
This Dual Language Resources Book reviews a collection of twenty-six, hand-selected dual language books for children (English-Chinese, English-Spanish and one English-German). Its goal is to kick-start your child’s journey into learning the foreign language of your choice. No need to waste time searching for online language resources on the web because we have done the job for you and your child.
This book is designed to help you and us. You and your child move straight to picking up a book because there is no time wasted on questions like:
- “Which language book is the best?”; or
- “If only someone could recommend a good book!”
Use your daily time allowance of ten to twenty minutes to actually learn a language with the books we suggest for you here. The reviews are independent and, at the time of writing, we receive no retribution or incentives for reviewing them - so you can be sure of an unbiased opinion. In fact, we were so impressed with many of the books, we took our own advice. As a result, most of the language books reviewed here have been added to our own home-library and are used by our children or the children of friends.
Please let us make something clear.
Many of the resources suggested in this book are available free of charge on the web (at the time of writing). However, our reviews, links, experience and observations regarding those resources most certainly add value for you. We are aware that the world we live in today is a busy one. Because of this, we have independently researched, reviewed and linked to those language resources so that you and your children can dedicate your daily twenty minutes directly to learning the foreign language of your choice.
We are persuaded that the symbolic amount of money you have paid for this book is fully justified by the usefulness of the language resources we have reviewed and the research time you will save as a result of buying the book. Should this not be the case, please see the price of the book as donation to maintain and improve DuLaBoo for other language learners. We thank you for that in advance.
Should you wish to contact us with suggestions or improvements, please refer to the “Contact & Links” page at the end of the book.

The Importance of
Dual Language Books for Kids
I don’t know if you recall your first experiences with books as a child. Personally, the first book I remember was a picture book about a penguin. It wasn’t a dual language book and my parents didn’t try to teach me a foreign language with it, although considering I was learning
my mother-tongue, one could argue that she was teaching me a language but, I digress… the important point to my telling you this is that it stuck in my mind.
This book stuck in my mind at first because it had vivid pictures of a penguin and his adventures. I didn’t even like penguins in particular but the act of holding a real book in my little hands and flipping through such colourful pages generated an excitement in me that I remember to this day. What I found equally fascinating was that, according to my mum, the black characters on the pages were called letters and the way these letters joined together created the words that my Mum and I used to talk to each other when we spoke. My excitement continued to grow as realisation dawned that if I could learn which pattern of letters made which words, then I would be able to read. How cool was that? Well, it seemed cool to me then as a young child!
Shortly thereafter, around my eighth birthday, I encountered my first dual language book (which I admit was quite late, but in those days dual language books and learning languages weren’t as prevalent as they are today). I knew what a book was and had learned to read pretty well by this point, but here I was with a book where I could only read half the words. The other half, I couldn’t understand at all. At first, I thought it must be some
