As I sat in my old Toyota Corolla in the parking lot outside of my apartment, I sighed despondently.

I’d just gotten back from an unsuccessful job interview. However, it’d been more of a fiasco than anything else. The job was for a sales position. I’d spotted the ad in the newspaper yesterday, boasting that I could make up to a half a million dollars a year. Sure I was skeptical, but it was worth a shot. Held in the conference room of a Motel 6, south of the airport, it was an open interview. The Motel 6 chain wasn’t exactly known for their conference rooms, so that should have been my first clue. To my surprise, there were hundreds of desperate, out-of-work people crowded into that tiny space which sat twenty at most. Then these two pricks came out and pitched us this bullshit pyramid scheme. With an initial investment of two thousand dollars, you received an inventory of steak knives to sell. The entire time, said salesperson would try to recruit others into that hot mess. I smelled a scam, so I left during the first few minutes of their spiel.

Unfortunately, this was just another dud in the long list of job leads I’d chased down. When I’d vie for a position, if the job wasn’t completely bogus, I was almost always not experienced enough. Being this would be my first job out of college, how would I ever get experience when no one would hire my ass in the first place?

Through the rain-splattered windshield, I spotted Tyler’s truck parked directly in front of the apartment. My roommate was home during the middle of the day again, but that wasn’t unusual.
