World Crusade in the 21st Century - Michael P. Wright
Chapter 1
10th Crusade The Beginning
T
he 10th Crusade started in December 1979 with the Soviet Union’s military invasion of Afghanistan. The war began in December 1979 to February 1989 and lasted over nine years. Soviet troops invaded Kabul on orders from Moscow to replace President Hafizullah Amin with the Soviet endorsed Babrak Karmal as head of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. The army flew into the airport of Kabul on chartered flights with an unexpected attack and quickly took control of the airport. In December 1979 began the first deployment of the army arriving in the capital of Kabul, they staged a coup, killing the Afghan President and installing a rival Afghan socialist.
The Soviet Union’s war and occupation of Afghanistan led to a jihad, a holy war in the country which continues in the world today. The origins of the 10th Crusade between the Christians and Muslims began in Afghanistan in 1979. The Soviet Union had no idea what they got themselves into and what they are responsible for starting. Scholars of history will judge our time and how this invasion began a series of events that were unstoppable. Once a jihad is declared there is no easy end in sight and another reason to continue the fight presents itself. A clash between cultures has happened many times throughout history.
Events from 1979 to this point leading the western and Muslim cultures into a crusade with no present way out. A tipping point has occurred with aggression of the Soviet Union against a neighboring country of Afghanistan. The adventurism of an empire to have more control in the region and dictate its will to other countries has led the world to its present day dilemma. These are the events that have led the world to the 10th Crusade between the Christians and the Muslims. Presently the situation in the Middle East is of grave concern especially in Syria with American, Russian, Turkish, Iranian, Kurdish, Syrian, Free Syrian, and ISIS troops all in one country with their certain alliances.
Chapter 2
Reasons and Responsibility
T
he reason for all this fighting for the last 37 years has no simple answer and history has a way of always repeating itself. The first nine crusades lasted from 1095 until 1291 with many battles directed by popes and kings. The 10th Crusade and all of its wars which we are involved in now, there is not a way to predict when it will come to an end. Possibly the struggles between the Christians and the Muslims will be with mankind always. I couldn’t imagine that God would want this to happen. The reason for the beginning of the crusades was all about control of territory and safety of religions. Pope Urban II ordered the start of the first crusade because Christian lands were being threatened as well as the population by the Muslims. Unfortunately this is how it all began 922 years ago.
The responsibility for this continuous fighting can be blamed on the western countries just as much as the Middle Eastern countries. Who is responsible for all of the millions of deaths to children, women and men for the last 37 years? Everyone is responsible because we didn’t do anything to prevent this from happening. God is paying attention and watching His children do this to each other. Psalm 8:4-5, What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.
Jesus is also watching and waiting for the day
