    About the Author

Cheyenne and the Great Christmas Rescue

Cheyenne stood in her front yard, a young girl of thirteen. Snow floated all around her. She twirled, sticking out her tongue and catching as many snowflakes as she could. She giggled as some landed on her nose, tickling her.

What are you doing? Grandma Kay called. It’s too cold out here. Get in here before you catch a cold. Grab an armful of wood when you come.

Cheyenne climbed the few steps to the porch and grabbed a few pieces of the wood before heading inside. Her mom and grandma sat together on the couch, each crocheting a blanket. Cheyenne threw the logs onto the fire.

    Thank you, my dear!

You’re welcome, Grandma. She took off her coat and gloves. You know, it is December.

They stopped their crocheting and looked up at her.

Grandma Kay stood up, smiling. You’re right, I’ve already brought things down from the attic. It’s time we get our tree, she said excitedly while walking around the living room. We’ll have to move this chair. I want it right in front of the window. I want it to almost touch the ceiling. The biggest, tallest tree we can buy. She turned around, pulling Cheyenne close for a hug. As soon as your grandpa comes home from work, we’ll go to the Christmas tree farm. Let’s go ahead and move this chair into the dining room and go and unpack our decorations. By Monday, this place will be a wonderland. Grandma Kay rushed down the hall.

Cheyenne sat down next to her mom Dawn. Aren’t you excited? Her mom didn’t smile and just kept crocheting. Mom?

Her mom met her eyes. I don’t feel the spirit this year. I just have some things on my mind. She stood up and grabbed her basket of yarn, then headed upstairs. Cheyenne walked over to the window. Watching the snow fall made her smile. The ground was turning white fast.

    What are you looking at?

She turned to see her grandma with a large box. She opened it next to the fireplace. Cheyenne walked over and looked into the box of decorations.

Do you want to help decorate the mantel? Grandma Kay asked.

Cheyenne squealed and pulled out a long string of lights. She walked over and plugged it in. The lights glowed brightly, adorned with glowing Santa Clauses, elves, and candy canes. Her grandma took the end, and the two of them decorated the mantel. They stood back and admired the twinkling lights.

    That looks good, Cheyenne.

She looked around the room. What’s next, Grandma?

What about your homework? Her mom demanded and they turned to face her.

    But mom, we’re decorating.

She shook her head. You know the rules. If your homework isn’t done, there won’t be any tree decorating either.

Cheyenne hissed and stomped her feet. She looked at her grandma, but Grandma Kay just shook her head as well.

Sorry, Cheyenne. Your school work is important. You better run off and get it done.

Cheyenne turned and ran upstairs. She walked into her room and slammed the door. She grabbed her bag from the floor and jumped onto the bed.

Cheyenne are you there? Wendy asked from the glowing crystal on the windowsill. Cheyenne went to the window and picked up the crystal. Wendy’s smiling face appeared.

How have you been? Cheyenne asked. She had met her witch friend at Halloween but hadn’t seen her
