I.S. Hoveni, a retired school principal was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Omega Global University in Mpumalanga in 2013 recognizing his contribution to the former Gazankulu community development initiatives and to the education sector of the country.

I.S. Hoveni is married to his sweetheart Mrs Sylvia Facinga Hoveni (nee Mashele), also a retired school principal and the two together have four children and four grandchildren.

I.S. Hoveni enjoys writing, reading, listening to gospel music, jazz, tending to his garden and relaxing with his family.
