I took a strong liking to books at a very young age and have maintained that same passion as an adult. I have always indulged myself in reading many books from different authors some of which inspired me to create my own work. Writing for me came a little later in my years; it first started out with poems, short stories until I finally created my first novel. I have now been inspired to showcase my talent to the world in hopes to entertain and inspire others. Now that I am pursing further education I choose to continue to grow in the knowledge of reading and writing. I hope you all will join me on this journey in helping me achieve success through my work

Prologue
Megan
Please rise as we welcome the bride!
the announcer spoke loudly into the microphone, practically bursting my eardrums.
Geez, can somebody turn that freaking amp down? I thought, cringing as his booming voice heightened my anxiety even more than before…if that was even possible. My makeup-covered eyes grew a bit wider as I watched everyone in the crowd stand from their seats, turning their gaze toward me as I prepared to walk down the aisle. Oh, Lord, just help me make it through.
I smiled brightly despite my discomfort, wiping the nervous sweat from my perfectly arched brow. It seemed with each step I took, my stomach churned like butter the closer and closer I got to the altar. For some reason, I couldn’t stop the growing uneasiness that seemed to be spreading throughout my body due to the intense need I had for everything to be flawless in this very moment. Today was my big day, the day that I was to become a married woman, committing myself to the love of my life before our family, friends, and the one and only Living God. Now if I could just make it to the podium without defecating on myself or passing out fatally, everything would be great.
Looking at my soon to be husband, I couldn’t stop the wondrous look in my eye as he stood waiting for me to join him in holy matrimony. Baby, if you only knew…I smiled, eager to get this ceremony completed and live out the rest of my life with the love of my life. Two years it took me to find the perfect wedding date—February 24th to be exact, book the most beautiful location at Gotham Hall, find the right white colored gardenia flowers for my bouquet, and drop enough pounds to slip into my strapless, ivory, laced Vera Wang dress. Now that everything was finally complete, my husband and I were ready to commence our union.
Pensively glancing around the guest-filled room in awe, I made sure to take deep breaths as I continued to walk slowly down the aisle, making sure not to trip over the set white carpet that led to the holy altar. C’mon, girl, you can make it. Just smile and suck in this gut a little while longer at least until we get to the reception. The pleasant looks on my bridesmaids’ faces as they smiled and cried as I came closer gave me further reassurance that I could make it through this ceremony without going into nervous shock. Each one of their husbands were all on the other side of the podium behind Skylar, patting his shoulder as if they were letting him know everything was going to be okay.
Everyone looked so nice in their fancy gowns and tuxedos, waiting to see us be joined together as man and wife. Even Pastor Wallace donned his best white ensemble cloak sharply as if he were the pope of England. I passed by my mother as she sat on the front row of the church pew. Tears were swelling up in her pretty green eyes as she continued to dab at her pink flushed face. Smiling at her, I hoped she knew how much I appreciated all her love and support throughout the years of my life, especially on this day when her little girl was going to be made an honest woman. When we reached the altar, I turned to my father as he pulled back my veil, smiling at me with his old worn eyes. His dark, rough hands gently touched my face while he placed a soft kiss on my plum blushed cheek.
Congratulations, baby,
he whispered in my ear sweetly while I joyously nodded, forcing myself not to cry.
Skylar reached his hand toward me to join on the stage, but my father grabbed his palm instead, firmly pulling him into his arms. From eye view it appeared as if he were whispering something to him and although I couldn’t make out the close conversation from my distant proximity, I am pretty sure it went something like this, "You better not hurt my daughter, or I will hurt you." As they quickly separated, I held on to Skylar’s hands while he helped me up the podium steps. Looking up adoringly at his handsome face, I smiled brightly as all nervousness and anxiety went away and was quickly replaced by a welcomed calmness.
Even in the church house, I was unable to stop myself from admiring the beautiful canvas that I stood before. The black Armani tuxedo Sky wore fit his athletic 6’3" frame perfectly, amplifying his broad chest and sinewy arms. His hair was cut lower than usual today, which just brought more attention to his sharp almond eyes and full lips surrounded by a neatly trimmed beard. The longer my eyes continued to stare, I felt the instinctive urge to kiss them amorously, but I knew it was better to wait until the deal was officially sealed.
Brothers and Sisters, we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of Brother Skylar Gray and Megan Collins.
Pastor Wallace began the ceremony with a bright and joyful grin showing on his medium brown face. Who gives this woman to this man?
he asked while looking in my parents’ direction.
Timothy and Elaine Collins,
my father spoke up proudly, his deep voice booming throughout the entire room as he and my mother both stood up from the front pew wearing their matching cream-colored outfits. Some may have considered them an odd couple at first glance with my father being a large domineering African American man and my mother, a petite Irish woman, but to me they couldn’t have looked more perfect for each other.
As they sat back down, Skylar and I’s gaze met once again while Pastor Wallace continued with the proceedings. Mentally and spiritually preparing myself for the vow exchange, I took much needed deep breaths knowing this was going to be quite emotional for me. Okay, Meg, I thought inwardly as my nerves once again attempted to take over. Just speak loudly, clearly, and most importantly from the heart.
Now, although I would usually lead my couples in their vow exchange to each other, these two have prepared their own vows they would like to share today. So, Brother Skylar…
Pastor Wallace smiled, looking over in his direction. If you would like to go first?
Nodding slowly, Skylar focused his eyes on me as he removed the wedding vows he had previously written from his suit jacket. As he began, Skylar’s voice became a bit shaky and I could tell he was nervous by the way he gripped my hands. Megan Collins, since the first day I have met you I knew you were the one. The one who would stand by my side through thick and thin, good or bad, and everything in between. I vow to you to be the best husband I can be. I will give you loyalty, honesty, and love always even until the end of time.
Sister Megan?
Pastor Wallace turned to me. Your turn.
I nodded, taking a deep breath and removing my own vows from inside my bouquet and looking into Skylar’s deep brown eyes. Skylar Gray, you are the man I have been dreaming about all my life and I am so honored that you have chosen me to become your wife. I vow to give you the best of me even when I am at my worst. I will love each and every part of you no matter how good or bad. I will give you love, honesty, and loyalty always even until the end of time.
Breathing a sigh of relief, I was quite pleased I made it through our intimate vow exchange without blubbering or crying myself a river, well, almost, I sighed as swelling tears fell down my cheeks. Damn.
Now…
Pastor Wallace spoke up loudly, looking a little misty-eyed himself. We will present the rings.
As Skylar received our wedding bands from Grant, his best man, I gave my bouquet of gardenias to my maid of honor, Lucy. Brother Skylar, please place your ring on Megan’s left hand.
Skylar easily slipped the platinum band on my finger in front of the three-karat engagement ring I wore. Now, Sister Megan, place your wedding ring on Skylar’s left hand.
I placed the large band on Skylar’s finger as we proceeded, liking the way it looked on him. Sister Megan, do you take this man to be your husband?
I do.
I nodded without hesitation.
Brother Skylar, do you take this woman to be your wife?
I do.
He grinned widely, never once taking his eyes off of me.
Now by the power vested in me. I now pronounce you man and wife. Brother Skylar…
Pastor Wallace winked at him before turning a blushful smile toward me. You may kiss your bride.
Barely retrieving my bouquet from Lucy, Skylar landed a full-on kiss on my lips, leaving me breathless and amorously anticipating the honeymoon phase. I wrapped my arms around his neck pleasantly as he deepened our kiss while everyone else clapped and cheered to our new union.
Presenting Mr. and Mrs. Skylar and Megan Gray!
Pastor Wallace shouted, announcing our title as we made our way down the rice-covered carpet for the first time as man and wife. Mrs. Skylar Gray, I thought to myself joyously. Has a nice ring to it.
Chapter One
Skylar
New Wife, New Life
Wow, that house is huge!
Megan gasped while leaning on my shoulder. Her wild curly blonde hair blew rapidly in the wind, accenting the deep tan of her sun-kissed skin as we drove through the streets of Merrick. Having just gotten back to the states from our honeymoon in Rio, I was already missing the blissful ease of the beautiful city where my beautiful bride and I spent plenty of days sipping never-ending mojitos, laying out on the indigo beach shore, and enjoying each other’s company to the fullest and I mean that in every way. Once our blissful days in Brazil finally came to an end, it was time for us to start our lives together as husband and wife—hence why we were currently sightseeing for homes to buy. I kissed her hand as we continued to drive through Merrick’s suburban area, taking in all the luxury of the vast homes.
Look at that house right there, baby.
I pointed to a two-story white house with a spacious yard and a greenhouse for gardening.
Oh, that’s beautiful.
She smiled, following my gaze. I have always wanted a yard big enough for a rose garden, but then again, maintenance may be too much for me. Wait, look at that house there. Ooooh, and that one there.
She pointed to the house to my right, a comfy brick home tucked away on the low-end corner. It was a beautiful place, two-door garage, white picket fence, and amazing outside patio. The large home was surrounded by red-leaved trees, which danced happily around the yard, as the spring breeze grew stronger. There was no doubt it was wonderful to look at but I knew it would be hell to clean up after, especially during the fall.
Nah, I think I can find us something more our style.
I drove down the street a little further and then made a left down the block before finally stopping once we got to our destination. Now this one…
I nodded, directing her attention to the house we stopped in front of. As Megan turned her head to look at the large place before us, her jaw dropped instantly. It was a cream-colored brick home, two stories, with a sterling fence and separate parking garage. The house had a very presidential look about it that was interesting enough to catch a passer’s attention but not too much that
