    Chapter 1

What a coincidence; the property that my parents bought belonged to Christian Powell's family, my platonic love. Yes, the boy I used to see as a child every summer in the green meadows of Somersett; the boy with whom I had so much laughter and fun times in England. Even greater was my surprise when ... while exploring his old house, I found a small diary hidden behind the boards that covered a small built-in bookcase. It was his! He had been writing it until he left for college, how could he forget it?

I must say that the distance and, living and working in Spain, dissolved our contact to a certain extent, there was not enough time for anything to emerge between us. After growing up and having each a different circle of friends, it was even harder. I was always attracted to him, he was the boy of my golden dreams, but he never said anything to me. Therefore, that was a mere fantasy.

Everything changed after reading his diary and finding out that I was also the little princess of his dreams, I was the subject on all the pages! How come you never said anything? I guess we were just kids and that was only a childish fantasy.

I heard through Christian’s family that he had left a few weeks ago, he wanted to roam the world. He was always an adventurous, bohemian and independent guy. Untraceable, with his phone off, no social network profile, but anyway, any idea of finding him seemed impossible.

You will not be thinking about looking for Christian? It's crazy! My mother said.

I was just looking at a picture of us when we were kids, do not be alarmed!

Do not treat me like a fool! I know you perfectly and I know what kind of things you are capable of. My mother and I have never had great affinity.

When my parents decided to return to England I could not believe it; after more than twenty years living in Spain, I thought that my British father had completely spanishized, mainly because my mother is of Andalusian origin. Never happened such a thing, we were always between Spain and the United Kingdom.

I grew up in San Sebastian but I studied at the University of Bath, before leaving for college, we used to spend every summer in Somerset, where my father's family is. But again, I was surprised when they told me they had bought a house there, to retire.

When everything happened, I was in Salamanca, almost bankrupt. The academy of English that years ago that I had launched, was stretched to its limit, it was the year 2008, in the middle of financial crisis. With much regret and tears, I had to close my business, leave that beautiful city and go back to my parents' house, but this time in the United Kingdom.

What hurt me the most was to be dependent again and have to put up with my mother’s reproaches, always conservative and in total disagreement with me. But when I came across with Christian’s diary and read his words and the idealization he had about me... I realized that you never have to give up and always try to achieve your dreams.

This is how I chose to put in place the madness that my mother feared a lot, against her will, with the only blessing of my father, I went to travel the world and ... look for Christian.

How are you going to survive, daughter? You no longer have an income, you need a job, My father said, who was a very reasonable and understanding man.

I do have an income dad, you know that. All my family knew it, but just some of them took me seriously.

Oh, darling! Literature only fuels your spirit, it will not feed you.

Dad, what I earn with the novels is more than enough for this adventure, I am not going to pay neither bills nor mortgage, I have sold everything... even my car.

You are insane, you can´t live this way! My mother yelled. If you want to be an independent woman, you have to settle down first and forget your crazy fantasies.

It’s just for a little while! I need to see the world. Her old way of thinking did not accept that a woman just went on such an adventure.

Honey, this will do her well! It will make her stronger and more independent, My father said.

It will, mom, don´t worry about me, I’m a grownup. That time I was about my early thirties.

My plan was to find Christian and then look for job stability again. Yes, I know it's a risky bet, but at least I had the writing to earn something. I have been always writing; stories, articles for business websites... let's say it's my second job.

If I missed the opportunity to look for Christian, I would probably regret the rest of my life, it was an idyllic vision that pushed me to meet him, but it was enough for me.

Before leaving, I had to find a traveling companion, and I knew the right person. A Spanish guy who was in England, Perseo.

Corinna? How is it going?! So nice to hear you! It had been about a year that we did not speak by phone, we still kept in touch by Whatsapp, though.

How is your adventure going on, Perseo? Are you still seeing Doreen? She was the girl he was in love with.

Terrible! She has just told me she is dating another guy... I am devastated! I had the feeling it would end like this.

Oh, shit! Don’t get down, you must forget her and think only of yourself.

It’s just... I deeply loved her, I feel awful, Corinna, and on top of that, I am sleeping in a caravan. He was in a volunteer program in Somerset.

Don’t let that overcome you, look, I will meet you tomorrow! I was going to rescue him; he was alone in UK and barely spoke English.

The next day I took the bus and commuted to Street, a small town near Somerton, from there I took another bus which dropped me at Earth Spirit Centre, a residential hostel where yoga and meditation courses are held; and you can taste an exquisite vegetarian food, enjoying the magnificent view of the green meadows.

Perseo was there, working in his voluntary work program. He was living in a specially equipped with electricity and Internet caravan. He used to work about five hours a day in exchange for free accommodation and food, a good opportunity to learn English and enjoy nature. When I got there I asked around the facilities, some of their colleagues told me where to find him.

Perseo! I knocked the white door where he lived, it was a splendid sunny day, we were in May and the in the south of England, especially the Compton Dundon meadows are wonderful at that time.

Corinna! Finally there is someone I can speak Spanish with. I came in; the place was a little messy.

Hahaha! What´s about your English?! You're supposed to be here for that, aren’t you?

Uff! After all this stuff... I am not that receptive, honestly. I sat on one of the padded sofas inside

I get it; I already told you that you shouldn’t have come for her. You should’ve done it for you, to improve your English. I took his hand; it was warm, as usual.

I just believed that if I changed my life and integrated myself in England... Doreen helped me with all this adventure, she cheered me up.

She shouldn’t have done that, as I see it she played with your feelings. She didn’t even know what she wanted when she encouraged you to come to UK.

I’ve been thinking about her since she left Spain. His hazel eyes said everything; he was in love.

Look at you! You are in a foreign country, trying to get ahead, all for love, gosh, that´s so romantic.

"I see, you might be thinking I am a gooey romantic, right?

No, don´t misunderstand me, it excites me to see what that feeling moves. Your colleagues have told me that you were sad.

Well, why shouldn’t I be? This is pointless; I want to get back to Spain!

"Don’t be overcome, Perseo. It was likely that Doreen disappointed you, I
