Cole sat up and stretched. Then ran his hand through his sleep-tousled hair. He kept it mostly military style. Short on the sides, a little longer on top. So there wasn’t much he had to do with it. He could hear his partner Troy moving around in the kitchen. Swinging his legs out of bed, he walked over and pulled back the curtains. The early morning sun was still weak, they never slept late. Old habits died hard.

The sunlight was filtered through thick bulletproof glass. To look at the building it appeared to be an ordinary red brick two-story, situated in the nice business part of town. It had offices downstairs and living area above. But as it was with Troy and Cole, looks could be deceiving. The place was a fortress and bulletproof glass was only the start.

Their apartment was above the offices of CT Security Services. A security company they started after they got out of the military. Both Cole and Troy were prior Special Forces and best friends from the moment they met. And as this was what they knew, it seemed like a natural fit. They only accepted a select clientele and charged a small fortune for their services. But they were worth every penny.

Cole walked down the hallway and through to the kitchen. Troy was leaning on his hip against the countertop and waved his coffee mug towards the side. Coffee’s done. Remember, we have to go to Jackson's office today.

Cole grimaced. Mr. Bobby (Bob) Jackson was a high priced criminal defense attorney. The man himself was tolerable, but some of his clients were far beyond redemption. It was, however, Jackson’s opinion that as long as they had money, then he was more than happy to defend them. No matter what they did.

Of the fact that Jackson’s clients were guilty Cole had no doubt. It was just the nature of who his clients were; Gang Bangers, Drug Dealers, Cartels, Crime Bosses. All those regular, upstanding, citizens.

Troy laughed. Don’t make that face, brother. He was one of the first clients we ever signed. We kinda owe the guy. Plus, we get to see Kallie.

Cole rolled his eyes. Kallie was Jackson’s secretary. She was a cute little thing, long brunette hair, dark brown eyes, curves in all the right places. And Troy had been nudging him for months to make a move on her. Cole thought that was a very bad idea. Never mix work with pleasure. Leave her alone, Troy.

She’s a sub.

Irrelevant. She is also work, and they don’t mix.

Troy let out an irritated sound. You’re being an asshole you know.

Troy frowned. Are you serious? What’s gotten into you?
