Do You Dream of Her? - Sándor Reményik
Erdély – magical, mystical land where the poet lived and loved
About the poet
Sándor Reményik lived only 5l years–his brief life framed between two world wars, 1890 – 1941, in Kolozsvár, Erdély, Hungary, and lives on forever in the hearts and souls of the people with whom he reso- nated in every fiber of his being.
He originally studied to become a lawyer, but an eye disease thwarted those aspirations and he turned to lit- erature. He was a prominent poet, editor and journalist who, together with eminent fellow literati of the times, endeavored to keep the nation’s spirit aglow during tur- bulent times.
Among many awards, Reményik also received the prestigious medal of the Hungarian Academy of Sci- ences.
His life encompasses his beloved Erdély being attached to another country, during which time many of his friends and compatriots chose to leave for the part that remained with Hungary – including Ilonka and Piroska, the two greatest loves of his life.
His ultimate goal was to connect through his poetry those who left with those who remained, and to uplift all those throughout the world who read his verses.

About the translator
I have been writing since I learned the alphabet. This is not a boast but a simple fact. Writing has nourished and sustained me throughout my life.
Raising two lovely daughters on my own, I was already 34 when I returned to college, initially for a degree in Journalism. Instead, the single mother’s need to be at home for children returning from school compelled me to major in Psychology—another avid interest.
Thirty years of private practice followed, during which time I continued to write—on the side, stealing, treasuring, the moments. I was married
to my prac- tice, devoted to my children, but continued my feverish romance on the side with my Muse. Reményik wrote THE DUAL GARDEN for women like me.
A few years ago I contributed a bi-monthly column, The Little Things, to Shore Publishing Community Newspa- pers, CT. My apprenticeship as a published writer.
Encouraging responses from readers prompted me to write my memoir, GATHERING ROSES, THORNS AND ALL. I needed to assess, reassess—and to share the journey.
Then quite serendipitously I met
Sándor Reményik
– and he has kept me spellbound ever since. Loving every minute of it...
