The world that we live in now is full of things, of material possessions. We are bombarded with advertisements all of the time, ones telling us that we need to have this item or that item. It is a way for big companies to make a lot of money, and they promise us it will help make us happy, help us make friends, and help us have a better life.
In reality, none of this is true. Most of us spend more and more money on material possessions and find out that it leaves us feeling empty inside. It takes up a lot of our time as we work more to purchase more items, we clean up more to get those items out of our way, and we assign too much power and emotions to those items because they are all we are connected to. This can lead to a real problem that many people don’t even know that they are dealing with.
When you decide that it is time to declutter, you will start making some drastic changes to your life. Minimalism is an idea that hasn’t caught on yet too much of the modern world, but the idea that you can actually be happy, that you can slow down in life, and really enjoy things and feel less stress, is very comforting and positive to a lot of people. And the process of decluttering different parts of your life can really help to make this a reality.
This guidebook is going to talk a bit more about decluttering and all the benefits that come with it. We start out with an explanation of minimalism, and how it can be a great way to help you live your life to the fullest. It is the idea that you live with as little as possible. Instead of getting involved in a culture that is all about purchasing more things, and trying to keep up with your neighbors, and purchase more materials goods. While many people hear the word minimalism and assume it means they can’t have a home, or a car, and never travel or do anything, and only one a handful of items, this is kind of to the extreme. Minimalism doesn’t mean you have to live in a hole and have nothing. It just means that you learn what you really need to survive, without all the extra stuff that just takes up space.
Minimalism is a tool that is going to assist you in finding freedom that you could never imagine. It can provide you with some freedom from fear, worry, from being overwhelmed, and even from guilt and depression. Even better, it can help you gain some freedom from the trappings of the consumer culture, that most people have built their lives around.
This doesn’t mean that there is something really bad about owning material possessions. If you actually use those items and find real enjoyment from them, then they are great. But the problem comes when we give too much meaning to the things that we own, giving so much attention to these things than our personal growth, our passions, our relationships, and our health.
