Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1525 –1569) was the most important painter and printmaker of Flemish Renaissance, famous mainly for his compositions with peasants in large scale.
Bruegel the Elder was one of the age group of painters matured when sacred themes had come to an end to be the usual topic of art. Following his Italian’s schooling, Bruegel returned to leave in Antwerp and his employment was mostly as a productive printmaker for the most important publisher. Nears the end of the 1550s did Bruegel the Elder start to paint on canvas, and all his well-known masterpieces come from the time of about 10 years previous to his death.
