Jamie Steel thought strip clubs were like Vegas casinos, a lot of neon and fake glamour that might’ve looked good at night, but the cold light of day told another story.

Take this place: The Eager Beaver. Daylight revealed it for what it was, a tacky dive in a less than welcoming part of town, waiting for darkness to cover its blemishes and bring it to life.

I know what you’re thinking, Rodriguez said.

You do?

It’s not that kind of place.

Jamie stared at the club’s logo: a nude woman sitting astride a pink rocket. Coulda fooled me, she said.

It calls itself a gentleman’s club.

What’s the difference?

No dance floor, Rodriguez said, just upstairs suites where the girls take the patrons who, you know, want to get their groove on.

Private dances, Jamie said.

Rodriguez shrugged.

So how do we know Dolemite is gonna show?

He’s popular with the girls, Rodriguez said. They tell him, ‘make it rain, make it rain’, and it rains dollar bills. They ask him to buy them a drink at sixty bucks a pop, and he buys one for everybody. They could probably tell him they have a sick mother and he’d slip them a thousand bucks.
