CHAPTER 1
Isabelle Stephens, but prefers Elle, lives in the small town of Herondale in Australia with her Mother: Jennifer, Father: Christopher and Elle’s younger brother: Alexander; Isabelle was born on the 13th August, 1990.
Elle had always been a normal kid until the day her parents brought tickets for a cruise on the Valentine cruise liner from Melbourne, Rio De Janeiro, Washington DC, Nuuk, Ust-Olenek, London, Cape Town, Perth and back to Melbourne on the Valentine, but the tickets where only for Jennifer and Christopher; on the day of Christopher and Jennifer’s departure; Elle and Alex were to stay with Christopher’s Twin sister Alice and her Husband Arthur; Elle loved staying with Aunt Alice, Alice spoils Elle and Alex rotten (like all aunts do), Elle and Alex hugged Jennifer and Christopher goodbye, about a month later Elle had a dream about the Valentine was struck by a tidal wave and crashed into the side of a cliff; Elle screamed, jumped out of bed and ran down the hall to Arthur and Alice’s room, Elle climbed in next to Alice, Elle told Alice about her dream.
Alice smiled at Elle, It was Just a dream, Love
Alice whispered to Elle so that she didn’t wake Arthur, Okay Elle you can sleep with me for the reminder of the night.
Elle climbed in and curled up next to Alice closed her eyes and fell asleep.
A couple of weeks after, Elle walked downstairs to the kitchen Morning Alice,
Elle said with a smile.
Morning Elle,
Alice smiled back at Elle I’m off to work Arthur will be home at 10 and Alex is still in bed,
Alice said kissing Elle on the forehead.
Elle watched Alice’s Audi RS6 back out of the driveway and down the road.
Alex walked downstairs into the Kitchen yawning. Where is Alice and Arthur, Elle,
he said stretching.
Elle looked at the clock on the wall Alice left an hour ago and Arthur will be home in about 10 minutes,
she said.
Okay,
Alex nodded What’s for breakfast?
he asked rubbing his tummy.
Elle walked into the kitchen, gave Alex a bowl of cereal Here you go Alex,
Elle said smiling at him.
Alex grabbed his spoon and put it into his bowl Thanks Elle
Alex said
Elle turned and walked back into the Living room seat on the couch and read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Elle looked up at the clock and it was 11:30am, she got up and walked over to the window Elle, where is Arthur,
Alex called from upstairs.
Alex I don’t know where Arthur is but I will call him,
Elle called up the stairs to Alex.
She walked over to the telephone and called Arthur but there was no answer.
Elle began to worry; she dialled Alice Comical spring ribbon
first receptionist said.
Hello, can I please speak to Alice Sanderson
Elle said.
Hold on I will pass you through
the woman said.
The phone rang four times Alice Sanderson’s Office,
second receptionist said.
Is Alice available,
Elle said.
Yes, whom can I say is calling?
second receptionist asked.
Her Niece,
Elle said.
Elle explained to Alice that Arthur was an hour and a half late Elle, Arthur probley got hung up at work
Alice said.
Elle said goodbye and put the phone down and as a dark coloured sedan with two little lights on the grill one was red and the other blue pulled up out front of the house, Elle knew the car was a police car and two men got out one was a tall man brown hair and glasses, the other was shorter with black hair and had sunglasses on, Elle walked to the door, opened it. Good morning is Mrs Sanderson here?
the Officer in the sunglasses asked.
No, sorry,
Elle looked back and forth between the two officers My Aunt is at work but my Uncle will be home soon though,
Elle said.
The officers looked at each other then back at Elle May we come in?
the Officer with the glasses asked.
Elle nodded, the Officers walked passed her and into the Living room What is this all about?
Elle asked.
The Officer in the Sunglasses removed the sunglasses and reviled his brown eyes Would you please sit down
Elle seat in Arthur’s dark green armchair, the officer in the glasses grabbed a file out of his bag and passed it to the brown eyed officer Thanks, Riley
officer opened the file Miss Stephens…
the brown eyed officer said.
Since you know my name can I know yours,
Elle interrupted.
The officer looked up from the file I’m Detective Broughton and this is my partner Detective Riley
Broughton looked at Elle Miss Stephens, we have some bad news to tell you,
Broughton said.
Elle looked at the floor Broughton, I heard something,
Riley said.
Elle turned and looked out the window and Alice’s Audi was parked in the drive Isabelle, Alexander,
Alice yelled.
I’m in here, Alice,
Elle said.
Alice walked into the Living room and looked at Broughton and Riley who are you?
Alice asked.
Ms Sanderson, I’m Detective Broughton and this is my partner Detective Riley,
Broughton said.
Alice looked at Broughton Okay, have you told Isabelle and Alexander,
Alice said.
Alice walked into the room her skirt blowing in the breeze behind her No, Mrs Sanderson we have not,
Riley said.
Alice nodded Well thank you Gentleman for coming and I would like to tell them,
Alice said escorting Broughton and Riley out the door.
Broughton turned to Alice I’m sorry, my condenses,
Broughton said handing Alice the file in his hands.
Alice what was that about?
Elle asked Alice as she walked back into the room.
Alice seat on the couch tapped the seat next to her, Elle went and seat down Elle Detective Broughton and Riley, was telling us some news,
Alice said.
Elle looked at Alice and,
Elle said.
Alice took a deep shallow breath The news was that Arthur has been in an accident,
Alice said.
Elle’s eyes widened Is he Okay?
Elle asked.
Alice shook her head No, Elle. Arthur is not, Arthur has…
Alice said,
Died,
Elle interrupted.
Alice nodded Yes Elle, he died,
Alice said and Elle put her face in her hands and she sobbed.
Elle is at University studying to be a Forensic Anthropologist, Elle was driving her Jeep Cherokee down Yarram Street to Alice’s house and had a flash of white went across her eyes, she saw Alex walking down the street into a bank and then he was at teller Tamara Walton then a man in a black balaclava with a shotgun and a second one with a pistol, the man with the pistol fired and hit the teller Tamara Walton, Alex jumped over the counter and pressed his hands onto her wound and then one of the other men came up behind Alex and put a pistol to the back of Alex head but Alex didn’t move Move away
the man said And put your back against the wall
But Alex still didn’t move I didn’t mean to shot her
the man whispered.
Then can you leave me alone so I can try to help her?
Alex asked.
The guy with the pistol looked at the other two then back at Alex. I will wait here and watch you
the man said.
The guys with the shotgun came up. What the hell are you doing?
the guy bellowed as he raised his shotgun and fired hitting the guy with the pistol, Alex pushed harder on the wound Now you move to against the wall
Alex didn’t move Fine then
the guy picked up the pistol and put it to the back of Alex’s throat and pulled the trigger and Alex fell forwards landing on Tamara Walton.
Another flash of white light and Elle had her normal vision back and was heading straight for a parked Nissan Maxima on the right side of the road; Elle tightly pulled on the steering and missed the Nissan by near metres and then hit the accelerator and headed back into town.
Alice was driving down Racecourse street and she pulled her Audi RS6 behind a Honda CRV, she walked down the street to Aunt Paulette’s Café, in the old brick building she met a blonde haired women wearing a Black suit and it was Neena Fray a Professor at the University, Alice sat down with Neena Fray and had a coffee, they talked about Isabelle, Alice’s mobile Speak of the devil,
she said flipping her mobile open hello Isabelle.
Alice is Alex with you?
Elle asked.
No, Alexander is not with me but I met someone at Aunt Paulette’s Café,
Alice said.
Okay, Alice, but do you know where Alex is?
Elle asked.
No, but I think he had some earns to run,
Alice said.
Okay, thanks Alice, see you at home, love you bye,
Elle said.
Bye Isabelle, love you too
Alice closed her mobile and then tossed it back into her bag; she then looked back at Neena Fray Sorry about that, now what were we talking about?
Alice asked.
We where talking about Isabelle and Alexander,
Neena Fray said.
Yes, about Isabelle’s Classes and trying to get Alexander into University,
Alice said.
Alex was walking down Conn street passed Same As New Antiques and then to the BOA, he walked up to the glass double door but then turned and used the ATM at the side of the gray stone building, he turned and walked away from the ATM and saw his older sister Elle coming towards him Hey Elle.
Alex said.
Then as Alex had just walked over to Elle, Elle heard a horrible sound, then a BOOM. She looked and saw Alex lying face down on the ground, Elle got up and stumbled over to him Alex, Alex,
Elle looked at Alex.
Elle looked over at what was left of the big gray stone building was rubble all over the street and where the bank used to be was just rubble with no fire, Elle looked at Alex and then down the road as six police cruisers skidded into Conn street, four black SUV’s, two fire trucks, two silver hummers with HCI on the side.
Alice was walking Neena Fray back to her silver Lincoln Town car and they heard a loud buzzing when they got to the Lincoln, then a sudden BOOM and they turned to see flames and smoke coming from a block away and then stone, started falling onto the road and cars, then three police cruisers, two SUV’s, one fire truck and two silver hummers drove past them. Alice then saw the channel 3 News van speed past and down Market street, Alice said goodbye to Neena Fray and hurried back to her Audi and then saw two ambulances speed past as Alice pulled out of the car park, she followed it to Warragul street and pulled her Audi into a park in front of Daphine’s Divine Dresses, she walked to the brocade and saw Elle being walked over to an ambulance and she had blood dripping down her head and then she saw Alex on a gurney going to one of the other ambulances, Elle was at the ambulance getting examined, a paramedic was cleaning up her head wound, Alice walked up to the brocade. Wait miss,
a police officer said.
Which hospital are the ambulances going to?
Alice looked over and Elle was walking away from the ambulance and then she collapsed Isabelle
she ran around the brocade and ran over to Elle Isabelle
Alice said
Do you know her ma’am?
the Paramedic said.
Yes, she is my niece,
Alice said.
Ma’am, come with me please.
The police officer said as he grabbed Alice’s arm.
Officer, she is the Aunt of this patient,
the paramedic said.
So, she is still coming with me,
the police officer said.
What hospital are she and the last patient going?
Alice asked.
The male that was found with this woman?
the Paramedic asked.
Yes,
Alice said.
They are going to Herondale Memorial Hospital,
the paramedic said.
Thank you,
she turned to the officer. Okay, I will go,
Alice said.
She walked away from Isabelle and went back behind the brocade and then dashed to her Audi, then speed off down the street and to Herondale Memorial Hospital.
Alex was wheeled into Herondale Memorial Hospital Emergency, three nurses and a doctor came from behind the desk and so his side and into Bed 1, the doctor and nurses hocked Alex up to three machines and an IV drip then the Emergency doors opened and Elle came through the door on a gurney still unconscious and they put Elle into Bed 4, a nurse at the desk picked up the phone and dialled a numbed as Alice walked into the Emergency room. Her mobile started ringing; she walked just out sliding the doors and answered it. Hello, Alice Sanderson,

she put her mobile away and walked up to the desk. I’m Alice Sanderson
Alice said.

Alice turned to the man wearing a white coat and had a stethoscope around his neck. Alex is in Bed 1, Ms Sanderson,
the doctor said.
How is he doing doctor?
Alice asked as she looked at the doctor’s ID tag.
Dr Karl Hamond grabbed his chart and looked at it. Alex has nothing broken,
Dr Hamond said

Alice asked.
Alex should be able it leave in about a week,
Dr Hamond said.

Alice said.

Dr Hamond said.

Dr Hamond said.

Dr Vera Oakley, Karl Hamond and 3 nurses dashed frantically over to Elle’s bed What’s happening. What’s happening,

Dr Knight said.
Dr Knight turned and went back through the door they had just come through. Dr Vera Oakley was monitoring Elle. When she was stable, they moved her to the ICU, the doctors and nurses in the ICU did more tests and found out that she had some swelling on the brain.
