Bandit's Run: A True Story
()
About this ebook
Bandit was about eighteen months old when he ran through an open gate. His owners knack for imagining where he would turn up next was uncanny. Growing up, we always watched Disney shows and Lassie, says Jamie Brehmer, author. Bandit resembled the Lassie show in many ways, and not because he is a sheltie and Lassie a collie. It was the scenes in which the ranger and Lassie would be so close, yet neither knew the other was right around the corner, says Brehmer.
The book follows Bandit on a journey much like The Incredible Journey. While Bandits skittish personality kept him from coming back home right away, his resilience taught his family that he was definitely meant to be theirs.
Jamie Brehmer
Born and raised in California and the youngest of three children, Jamie Brehmer has always been an avid animal lover. Pets were more than just animals; they were family members. She always felt she connected with the family pets more than anyone ever really knew. She moved to Indiana in 1995 with her husband and two children, and of course they always had pets. Bandit was the sheltie they had always hoped to add to their family. The bond they shared was immediate from the beginning, which made his absence ever more heartbreaking to the family. She could not turn her back on him or give up looking to bring him home as long as she knew he was out there.

We would like to thank everyone who tried to help bring our boy home. And most certainly to Lady.
She searched tirelessly for Bandit, and it is certainly her playing with Bandit that helped bring her best friend home.
May she rest in peace.

Introduction
I t had always been our dream to someday have a sheltie in our family. In early August 2007, we brought home a three-month-old sable-and-white male sheltie. Deciding on a name for him was evidently pretty difficult; he had three name changes before we found the perfect name. One day I made a remark that this little thief had stolen our hearts, and the name Bandit stuck.
Growing up in a household with many cats, Bandit would chase and play with his friends, and he often acted like a cat rather than a dog. He and his best feline friend, Taz, became inseparable. They would chase each other all over the living room, into the dining room, and back. Taz loved to run up on top of the antique secretary desk, and I was certain that one day Bandit would follow.
Chapter 1
W e knew Bandit was somewhat shy and
a little skittish around strangers, but we
never imagined that if he somehow got away from our home in Rockville, Indiana, we would not be able to bring him back. That challenge was put to the test Tuesday, October 21, 2008. We had spent the ten days of the Covered Bridge Festival in Parke County, Indiana, tending to our booth during the day and putting in late nights with painting more stock or shopping for supplies. We knew Bandit felt neglected during those ten days. We did take him up to the square, where he seemed to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the people on the courthouse square.
