For more than 30 years, Gary C Love has spent many hours on the water learning. The pull to go fishing, so powerful, that when he is not on the water fishing, it's painful for him. From the time he was a small child, his love of all things fishing, runs very deep, woven into the fiber of his being, and driven by inspiration. Most notably, Gary's father, Gary Love Sr. And his Grandpa, Frank Jackson, two of his primary sources of inspiration. Gary has a unique sense of humor, he can bring a smile to any face. Those who know Gary, in a personal way, they will tell you, never be sipping a coffee when he is speaking. You just never know, when he will catch you with a funny comment. Sitting at a coffee table, Gary designed an inline bucktail spinner, for Northern Pike. He spent a few years fishing, with his own creations, as his success with them grew. Gary's family, and friends, wanted to fish with his creations also. Gary's dad, gave him a nickname, "The Jackfish" in 1995, Gary's favorite species fish, drove him to continue building lures for his family. Pushed by family and friends, Gary decided to take his lures to the next level, the natural name for his company, given by his dad of course, "Jackfish" Lures. Born in Los Angeles California, Gary lived, fished, and grew up in California, and lived in Colorado and Arizona. Gary moved to Canada in 1991, his current home in Athabasca, Alberta Canada. Gary has fished many waters, from as far south as Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming, and the Pacific Ocean. In Canada, Gary has fished Alberta, top to bottom. And beautiful British Columbia's trout, and salmon, have been a major source of fun for Gary. Gary is skilled at catching more than 32 freshwater fish species, he is an expert at developing ways to catch them. The lures he designs, come from an intense love of fishing. As a result, Gary's Jackfish Lures, are used in 23 different countries around the world, by friends, fans, and followers. Gary is an accomplished professional angler, with many skills, both on and off the water. With encouragement, given him, from his late mother in law Eva Makarowski. Fishing with the Jackfish books, now exist, to encourage people to enjoy the sport of fishing, family, friends and nature.

Fishing with the Jackfish - Gary Carl Love
THREE KEY’S
FOR FISHING SUCCESS
Over the years, and spending many hours on the water field testing fishing products. And spending time discussing conditions, and various situations with other professional anglers. I have come to a point, where fishing successfully can be set in three simple key factors. Each key factor, requires action, and work from the individual angler, willing to work the keys to success. I am going to get into more detail, about how I set up the keys, and how I employ each one together, every time out.
I have a successful Pro/Staff, which has over the years caught, documented, and released, over 20,787 sport fish. We have done this using the key’s to success, on the water. When I construct a Jackfish Lure product, it is built with these three key’s in mind! Knowing, the time will come, when we will need to depend on these lures.
The #1 first and most important key is (Positivity) be positive minded about your approach to research. Study the diets of the fish you are going after, and the maps of the lakes you are going to fish. Look for yourself and do the research, don’t just take somebody’s word for it. Look it up for yourself, engage in learning, there may be certain aspects you want to know more about. Things that interest you more than they would someone else.
Always be willing to listen to other anglers with a positive attitude, especially older anglers, they can be a bank vault of very valuable information, if you are paying attention. None of us will ever know all there is to know about this great sport, we are continuously learning, all of us. Positivity is the result of hours of homework being completed, and studying the diets of the fish you are going after.
Studying seasonal fish habitat and migration patterns, as well the patterns you yourself can create, to set up your very own style, for your favorite lake or lakes. Catch fish in the same spot, in the same conditions, at the same time every season. Check and see, are you fishing a Mesotrophic, Eutrophic or Oligotrophic lake, a river or reservoir or a pond? Dig into it and build your knowledge of the sport, by doing your homework, it’s easy and it’s fun.
Pay close attention to nature, she will tell you many things, when things are getting green, when things are changing. Pay attention and remember what you’ve learned, document it, all of it. So that next season you will be able to check your notes, read the lake, and see what’s going on just by observing the time of season. Studying the contours of the lake you are fishing, and getting your equipment ready and balanced, and selecting lures based on the diets of the fish you are targeting.
As you have success, it will build more confidence in your abilities to put into action your lessons, engage in learning as much as you can. You will find that you are able to adapt to fit any fishing situation by doing your homework. This is how you build pure confidence! Positive anglers catch lots of fish, and not only that, they are more relaxed and more mindful of safety issues etc. But most important, Positive anglers catch more fish, and have the most fun. Even on a slow day, a positive angler keeps his or her chin up. Stays with the game-plan, and does not chase the day, instead they stick with it, adapt to conditions, and let the fish, and the day, come to them.
The #2 Key to success on the water is to keep things (Simple) for yourself. The #1 key ingredient to keeping things simple is Common Sense
, simple common sense. Don’t over complicate things, or over think it! Keep fishing gear simple, and properly balanced, everything should fit properly, your rods and reels. Clean them, care for them at home, and make sure all are working and ready for action.
Keep reels clean and ready to go at home.
I have seen this more than once, an angler who shows up to go fishing with dirty dusty fishing rods and reels. That have just come out of the garage from years of storage. And then heard this very saying (I don’t know if this gear still works or not)
. Keep it Simple, your equipment is part of the homework that must be done before you get to the lake. Success will not happen if you are in a boat and not sure of your equipment. Everything you will be using, Truck, Boat, Waders, Rods, Reels, Line, Lures, Boxes, Clothing, all of it, everything, every tool you will use to get to the water, and out on it.
Keep it simple and ready to go at home! So when you get to the lake, you are ready to fish. A simple approach, and balanced fishing equipment, is an important key to success on the water. If fishing equipment is not properly set up, you can get injured, believe me I know. As with any sport, your equipment is vital to success, you have to depend on it, so make sure to care for it properly.
BookProp.jpgCheck your prop before and after each fishing outing.
When it comes to fishing line, if you are not sure how old it is, if in doubt, throw it out! Get a new spool of line on your reel, take no chances, and make sure to apply good knots. It can be heartbreaking to lose a fish from poor quality, or old fishing line. Make sure your fly reels have enough backing, and your fly line has been cleaned and stretched properly. The better the quality of your equipment, the more confidence you will have in it.
You will get what you pay for, and it will work only as well as you maintain it! I take fishing to an extreme level here at Jackfish Lures, some of the equipment I use is way outside the affordability, for some anglers. However my pro/staff has field tested my products with basic conventional rods and reels for many years, with all brands, and had a lot of success with it.
The #3 Key to success on the water is (Controlled Confidence) You need to remember, you have control over everything, except the weather, and other anglers. You have the responsibility, to make sure all of your equipment is working properly, you have control over it. If you take the time to apply action to your preparation, you will have Controlled Confidence on the water. You control the boat, your location, lure choice etc, on the water, you control the rod and reel, retrieve speed etc.

You control your emotions, attitude etc. You control everything you are doing, except for the weather and other anglers. The weather can change on a dime! However you can adapt on a dime, if you consider weather conditions, apply a little forecast into your game-plan, stay positive, and keep it simple. Remember to control your emotions, and the choices you make. If you have done your homework properly, good choices will be no problem, you will have confidence, you are doing the right thing.
The belief in yourself, and your choices, will continue to build, you will feel the confidence. Good choices on the water will result in you catching fish, and having fun, which will in turn build more Controlled Confidence. Positive + Simple with Controlled Confidence. You can’t have one without the others working in unison, all three have to be working together. If you can get this simple set of keys included into a routine, your fish count is going to increase.
Controlled Confidence will rub off on other anglers, your example will help others just by observation. At Jackfish Lures, I build lures to cover the spectrum of any challenge you may face on the water. These three keys built into each and every lure I produce, all have been field tested this way. I am able to rise above any conditions, and challenges, and keep moving forward with positive, simple, controlled confidence. Positive + Simple with Controlled Confidence, you can do it, fit these keys into your fishing system, and watch the fish count go way up.
GET EVERYTHING
WORKING TOGETHER
It’s a beautiful day outside, I make a cast up under an over hanging tree with a Jackfish Lures Cadence MG-4, knowing the whole time a juicy walleye is hanging out under there. The lure hits the water, the blades start to spinning, the vibration pulsing out, the flash, the action, it’s just too much for the walleye to resist. The fish hits the lure, I set the hook, and it’s game on. Laura and I repeat this scene all the time out here in Athabasca Alberta, on various lakes every season. And we do it all throughout the season, Spring, Summer and Fall. We are able to do this because we get everything working together.

Homework equals success every time, over the years we have written down many a day of fishing. Heck, for example I can go back to summer 1999 and bring up an evening of top water action Dad and I had in great detail. And then remember the feel of that evening. So when that feel comes up again, I can adjust my approach to the conditions of the day. I am always looking to figure out new ones also, I write everything down, to cover as many conditions I can learn.
