Alexandra Dittmann

My name is Alexandra Dittmann, I’m German and I grew up in a small village near Heidelberg. As reading has always been my favourite hobby, I graduated in German Language & Literature as well as in Philosophy. After the first two years of my studies, I moved from Heidelberg to Basel, where I started my career as a language trainer for German, translator and proof-reader. As I am really passionate about this kind of work, I kept on doing it to the present day, even though my main job was that of a senior administrative assistant in the pharmaceutical industry for several years. In 2009 I started working on my first two books - and decided to quit my office job. Since then, I am a full time writer, language trainer, translator and proof-reader. And – I love it! Whenever I’m not reading or writing something, I love to ride my motorbike, do Martial Arts, travel, take walks in the beautiful hills around Basel or just hang out with friends.

    INTRODUCTION

    Dear reader,

Welcome to A Mystical Journey. My name is Alexandra, and ’tho I am the author of this book—however—its main character is YOU.

You, my reader. Yes! This book here is about yourself, your life and your world.

Now, here is what this book can do for its main character, here is what it can do for you: THIS BOOK CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE. For the better. For good. If you let it.

Now, that is some bold statement, isn’t it?

But here is the REAL gain for you: YOU will be able to change your life. By yourself. To take the reins back into your own hands. To make your own choices. You will be able to do this.

And all of this Speedily, if this is what you want!

Remember: It is your life, and the person who gets to decide what to make out of it, should be you.

However, you will not be alone: We are together in this, dear reader, you and me. We are on this journey together—a mystical journey towards a happier life, towards self-realisation, towards—you name it.

So—wherever you happen to be reading these lines, be it in your office during your lunchtime, in a crowded bus on your way home from work, or at home in front of the fireplace: Take the chance to leave your busy day behind, just for a little while, sit back, relax—and see where the journey will take you . . .

    CHAPTER ONE

    THE EAGLE

Hello Greg! How are you? Welcome on board—you have successfully embarked on a mystical journey! This is your very own mystical journey, and it’s beginning right here and now: On this beautiful, large yacht here, all in white and sparkling in the morning sun. You will love it.

There’s going to be just the seven of us: You, me, and the crew of five. And very soon now, we will weigh anchor and say our goodbyes to the shore of your homeland.—Yes, indeed, it is a splendid yacht—her name is The Eagle, did you know that? Just like—there, look! See this eagle right above us, circling in the morning sky? The awe-inspiring namesake of our yacht here . . .

Just imagine how great it must be to float up there in the blue sky, carried by the warm up draughts. What an incredible sensation of freedom this must be—well, incredible at least to us down here. The feel of the air below one’s wings, so long and powerful, the wind caressing your face—the sky’s the limit, as they say.

Up there, all you have to do is keep your long wings stretched wide and ride the upwind, effortlessly circling above the land.

Magnificent! And all you can see around you is the distant horizon—no limits, nothing between you and the great wide yonder. Up there, you are indeed completely free, one with the air, the wind and the sky. Unhurried, you circle on and on.

Imagine just how wonderful that must feel. How peaceful. And how easy it would be to just be up there—with no to-do-lists, no fears, no limits, no rules, no need to strain yourself, just with the up-currents taking care of you and supporting your weight, much as a gentle, warm ocean would. And there is nothing more you need up there.

Imagine just how small everything must look from up above: The trees, the houses, the yellow trash can next to the bushes back there, our ship, lying at anchor in the blue-green waters of the bay . . .

And as the young eagle must trade the safety of the parental nest in order to experience the freedom of the wide open spaces, so that is what we do now—oops! Hold on! Sorry, that little bump usually announces that the ride has begun—so far, just the downside of looking up into the sky.

Alas, goodbye, our sandy beach, our rocky shoreby the time we return, we will be the same no more, tra-la-la . . . I’m sorry, I know, this is not an easy moment for you, my dear travel mate: Leaving behind this land you know so well and love so much, the land of your forebears, of your peoples’ history, the scenery surrounding your own personal life, your very own history—leaving is never easy.

Oh, thank you!—This is fabulous: Fresh fruit juice, yummy! I just love the crew on this yacht here, always doing their very best to make everyone feel great and at home.

Come on, let’s sit down here on the bench and enjoy our drinks in the refreshing morning breeze. There, take a cushion!

Anyway, what was I going to say?—Yeah, leaving is never easy . . . However, there is a very good side to that, too: As they say, travelling will broaden your mind. And—it’s exciting! Fascinating, thrilling—it’s simply fun! Every day brings new adventures, scenery before unseen, places yet to be discovered. Ah, in no way can you have that sitting on your sofa at home.

You know, one day many years ago, I was the one leaving my home country behind, once and for all. And, at the time, I wasn’t happy about it in the least. But I decided to follow this inner nudge urging me to get myself away from the scenery of my childhood.

It was a nice place, but—goodness, not much going on there at all. Well, back then, I thought my journey would simply lead me to that exciting big city I had planned to move to: There, I would finish my studies, get a job, settle down, maybe buy a house with a white picket fence . . .

However, I never even got close to the white picket fence scenario; in the event, I was glad I managed to finish my studies and to at least get a job!

And it all started with this most unusual dream I had only a few months after my arrival in town:

I dreamt I was in one of these large green city buses with that unpleasant smell they have. In this particular kind of bus, you have to press a button on the door in order for the door to open. A pretty simple procedure that, as there is just one button, with door written on it—at least, that’s how it’s supposed to be. However, in my dream, there was
