Farming the Wind tells the story of Franny, a third grader who lives on her family farm in the midwest. Its a small dairy farm of which she is very proud, but her family struggles to prosper, which worries Franny. When the opportunity occurs to participate in a wind power project, Frannys parents are quickly interested. This eagerness excites Franny who soon learns about the enormity of such a project as well as its importance.
The Windmill Man, their contact with the project, recognizes Frannys delight in new possibilities and eagerly embraces her curiosity and questions.
The story is accompanied by factual information that brings windpowers importance in the 21st century into focus.

The author, Sue, is a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who cares deeply for the health of out planet. She has worked for years as a children’s librarian, kept soulful dogs, and baked more pies than you can shake a stick at. Her concern for a healthy planet is encouraged by an equally passionate husband and terrific children. She lives in Michigan with that husband, a new dog, and a great kitchen. The illustrator, Betsy, is one of those children, who lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with her husband and delightful young son. Betsy is trained in several aspects of art including illustration, collage, and book arts, and is currently using those skills as an educator at a regional historical museum.
