    Arrivial

T he stars which had covered the sky for so long began to fade as the Eastern sky glowed pink as a harbinger to dawn. Then it thickened to blood red witch faded to blue as the sun rose. The yellow blinding fire sent sparkling gleams off the oceans waves that surrounded the five islands of Prehistoric World. Connected by train bridges they held the best of two worlds it was said, three really. City streets of modern technology then of dirt paths and is a freedom based government pieced together by old ways. It was sort of a half and half that worked, the cream of two crops. And of the third world part was drawn from time before both. It’s name Prehistoric World was no pretense.

As the sun seemed to rise from the waves and storm clouds blew over the islands a train came from the mainland heading to end it’s over sea journey at it’s home station on Prehistoric main island.

In the bustling ocean side train station passengers had exited the inbound train. Later morning now a thunderstorm that had come up keeping the sky relatively dark delaying the light of dawn. Thunder and lightning made a dance of sound and flashes across the sky. Among the multitude of tourist, businessmen and residents was an American group of students. Several college young men and women were undertaking classes in the study of dinosaurs as part of their term. The sponsored program between the two governments had left a little room in the travel plans. A connected high school had filled it sending eight lucky students along for the ride paying for the return trip themselves as the college kids would be staying for months. They were several years younger at fifteen to sixteen. As the group awaited the arrival of their next train the eight gathered behind the older students under the eye of their diligent guardian. They could hardly remain still, having heard so much of what they could see here. Especially two of the sixteen year olds.

Gerald Anderson! Katie Hensen! Stop straying so far! Their guardian Mr. Frank Norfolk ordered the two errant kids. I’d rather not be blamed for anything happening to you.

The boy and girl scampered back to stand with the rest. One of the college kids turned back, Come on Mr. Frank, you know that’s not your worry.

Frank snorted. What do you know? Katie, Gerald get back here! The two kids had re-entered the group from one side to stray out the other.

A redheaded boy piped up. Frankly, Mr. Frank you can’t blame us for being excited, if you want to be frank, Frank.

Frank glared down at him. That joke ant’e worth jack, Jack!, And don’t forget the Mr.

Ok Mister. Jack said smiling up at the hardened gaze of their school custodian. He was an ageing man with gray starting to edge his brow and sideburns. Though he acted very stern and fierce as long as they did as told he let them get away with the minor things. Even though He was strict he was the only adult from the school that had them call him by his first name.

Man this blows. Another girl mumbled tossing her hair, We ant’e seen nothing yet except a bunch of ordinary people walking around, and we got trains at home.

We just got here, Katie told her, Besides at least we have a whole school day out of the classroom.

Beside her Gerald stood tip toe trying to see all he could. Never saw any of them at home, except tv. he said. Coming through the crowd in the company of a train crew a tall samurai strode with the traditional Katana and Wakasashi swords at his side. His uniform made it obvious he was a Sinsie guard.

Jack spotted him as they passed and pointed. Hey look, a samurai. He said rather loud.

The Sinsie samurai just grinned and pretended to point him out to the train crew. Hey look an annoying kid. Both sides laughed. Just then the stations automated announcement system comes online speaking loudly. BSPW east bound freight number 8 on track 1, no stop, passengers stay clear of tracks. The sound of the radio announcement cuts off as several people look out onto the platform. A large 4 axel GP-9 low nose locomotive rumbles into view blaring its horn. The locomotive is a mid green color with a black roof, black gas tank, and silver wheel trucks. The front of the locomotives nose had white caution stripes going down it while the side of the nose had a maroonish red half diamond shape with the widest part facing forwards and the tip facing back. The half diamond is outlined in black and on the sides of the cab written in white is the locomotives road number. The sides behind the cab is written large in white letters BSPW. The half diamond pattern and caution stripes are seen on the back just the same as the front only facing the opposite direction like a mirror image. Behind it is a GP high nose the second locomotive. This one’s paint job is the exact same in every way except instead of green it is a mid to light blue and the inside of the half diamonds is white instead of maroon red color. Finally heading up the rear are 2 more 4 axel locomotives. These both EMD F3 streamliners. Green color same paint pattern just the caution stripes are only on the front and the half diamonds at the back of it. The cars then appear some silver and green, some solid blue, some solid maroon red, some solid green, and some solid black. After the cars that seem to last forever pass a caboose trailing off around the corner green with a black roof the attention turns back to inside the station.

That’s the annoying kid. Jack said standing up straighter. I’m making a carrier of it.

You have a head start. The samurai said shaking his head walking away.

I wonder if their arresting anybody. Gerald said as he and the train crew were lost in the crowd.

Maybe you. Katie said poking him in the back.

Their checking the trains. Frank said. He nodded to another Sinsie samurai weaving his way through the mass. Not just here but all over. When we were leaving the last American station I got word that lately there’s been so much trouble from the Inshin Sai in both their usual areas and most of all five islands that the Shogun has sent a good deal of his own personal guard to help put and end too it. Seems mostly the Inshin Sai are bothering average citizens and apparently that really ticks Sinsie Bakuhara off. Frank paused and made sure he had the eight students full attention. If we hadn’t already been on the way when I was sent the news you all wouldn’t have been allowed to come. A smart and cautious school board we have. I don’t want any funny business, or stupid actions, He looked directly at Jack, In the grand scheme of things the drug gang aren’t amounting to much but there’s still a chance. They did put the country on higher alert after all.

The students were quite a moment then Jack smarted off trying to irk Frank. Can I join the Inshin Sai.

Who wants’ to join this country’s enemies! A loud voice behind the kids demanded making everyone except Frank jump. The teen students spun around to see the second Sinsie samurai standing close. Did you hear who said that? He asked Jack. The boy deterred about missing the wink the swordsman gave their guardian. I just can’t stand any of those thugs! You know what we do to them when we catch them?

I don’t really want to. Jack answered inching behind Frank who was standing motionless with his arms crossed.

We feed them to the dinosaurs. He said regardless. We have a Spinosaur getting hungry so are you sure you don’t know who?

No. Jack said completely hidden behind Frank.

Frank looked the samurai in the eye. Sir I’ll hold you personally responsible if any of my students wet themselves. He said in his usual calm strict demeanor.

Hey, I resent that! Jack yelled coming out from hiding.

He’s just joshing you. another one of the students said. And I’m not just saying that because my name is Josh.

Enough with the name jokes. Frank snapped.

The Sinsie samurai laughed. I guess I’m lucky only to have drug dealers to contend with. He joked as he went back to his duties. Good luck.

I knew he was joking. Jack said.

Katie nudged Gerald. Do you think he knew. Gerald shrugged. I don’t care. He was looking up studying the plaques high up on the far wall. There were three deciated to the countrys prize trains. The Sunrunner, The Sliver Comet, and the Moonlight Express. The plaque reads out about them in detail. One boy, a rather dedicated rail fan eyed them and excitedly rambled on about them to the others. Man! Those are some cool trains. The Sunrunner is pulled by twin EMDs painted the same as the 2 on the freight that just passed just the second on it is an EMD F-2 wile the lead is and EMD F-3. The cars are as set a superliner observation, superliner coach, super dome, vista dome, baggage car, and caboose as the break room for the crew. The Silver comet is pulled by a silver locomotive with green pin striping, black wheel trucks, roof and gas tank. It’s a EMD F-40 PH. Pulling first a super dome, then single story cars coach, sleeper and baggage. The Moonlight Express is pulled by a silver EMD F-2 with a green front and green almost Amtrak sign on the side, black roof, gas tank, and wheel trucks. It pulls single story coach, vista dome, baggage car, and a crew break room caboose. It also says that most BSPW passenger train equipment was bought from the United States and refitted as needed.

How come we don’t get to ride one of those? Josh asked anybody.

Because someone else is paying for the trip. If we used some of the money to book one of them you all wouldn’t be able to come. Frank said. Now move, there’s our train.

They fell in line with the rest of the passengers to be. Gerald and Katie! Stay with the group!

The pair stayed next to each other returning to the group. Katie stood on tip toe trying to look ahead over the taller people. As the crowd shuffled forward she turned her head back to see who was behind them. She suddenly ducked in front of Gerald. There’s more samurai getting on our train, and not the Shogunate ones and their armed.

Gerald glanced back. So? They’re not about to take a swing at some random girl on a train. They have to cover up any swords when they ride one anyway.

But isn’t the Inshin Sai they keep talking about made up of mostly rouge samurai?

Not everyone you see is a rouge thug.

Jack snuck up behind Katie. I’ve heard that a skilled samurai doesn’t have to draw a sword to be deadly to average people. He whispered, "Hey their all looking at you.’

Stop It! Katie yelped not looking to check.

You better stop it or I’ll feed you to that Spinosaur. Gerald growled at him.

Ooo, is she your girlfriend? Jack taunted but backed off.

Frank gave the tickets to rail worker and ushered his watch up the steps to their passenger car. Kate slowed holding Gerald’s sleeve until they were behind the rest of their group. What if they are though?

Gerald shrugged, Stop worrying, they didn’t look very mean to me. Now come one everybody’s sitting down. He went through the door and was momentarily lost from sight. Katie darted in after him and collided into the stomach of another passenger who was already onboard. She jumped back to find herself looking up a very tall muscular samurai. The man had cold as steal gaze with two scars running across his craggy face. The longest ran from the right of his hair line tilting left down past his nose and ending at his chin. The second ran across his left temple. He had stopped to adjust the black sword bag covering the very long katana he carried. He said nothing nor moved and just looked back at her. Katie didn’t even realize she had froze up till she heard Gerald call, Come on your blocking the door. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes and turned trying to follow the voices of her fellow students.

Little Miss your about to run into a wall.

Katie opened her eyes and sure enough she was facing the inner wall of the passenger car. The samurai who had spoken was watching with a trace of amusement in his expression. Completely embarrassed Katie ran over to the others and jumped into a seat beside Gerald.

Katie keep up or I’m going to tie you to my wrist. Frank told her looking back at them from two seats ahead.

Jack just in front of them turned around. Oh look Katie your samurai is sitting down right behind ya’ll.

Katie sunk down lower. He is not. Gerald snapped kicking the back of Jacks seat.

Jack that is enough! Frank called back.

When the mocker finally shut up Gerald sat up as tall as he could to see all of the passengers who were riding in their car. There were several businessmen in immaculate suites, a few in kimonos, women varying in ages from twenties to elderly interspersed throughout the car. One man who was dressed quite snappy but not in a business suite came in friendly chatting with anyone
