About this ebook
A devoted mother must confront a horrifying family curse in this “genuinely frightening . . . ghostly thriller” from the Shamus Award–winning author (Booklist).
Eager to restart her life after divorce, Olivia James moves back to her Tennessee childhood home, bringing her young daughter Teddy with her. When Olivia receives a disturbing phone call just after midnight, she immediately recognizes her brother’s voice. But there’s a problem: Chris died nine weeks ago. And his warnings of the Piper, an imaginary boogeyman who played on their childhood fears, fills Olivia with dread. So does an admission from Teddy: she just made an unsettling new acquaintance no one else can see.
When Teddy vanishes, and another mysterious death claims someone close to home, Olivia must finally confront a terror she’s been running from all her life: a very real and malevolent spirit that has been dragging her family, one by one, to hell. What she discovers is a “nightmare that will keep you awake till the last page and maybe even afterward” (Kirkus Reviews).

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5When Olivia James receives a phone call just after midnight, she recognizes her brother’s voice. But there’s a problem: her brother has been dead for the past nine weeks. Moving back to her old childhood home in Tennessee – the place where her brother has just died – her young daughter Teddy seems troubled, telling her mother that she’s being visited by a menacing ghost. When another tragic death occurs and her daughter disappears, Olivia must confront the demonic force that has cursed her family.
My Review:
Lynn Hightower's book is a very easy read as the words just flow. The subject matter is not so easy as the book keeps you interested until the last page as many members of Olivia's family keep dying at the hands of The Piper and you need to keep turning the pages to see how this book ends. I read it in one sitting and will certainly be checking out some more of her books.
