About the Author
FOREWORD
What you’re about to read is a 43 page novella, co-written by Peggy Jean Cramer and myself. I started this novella as part of a contest which I entitled Novel Beginnings. The premise was that I would write the first chapter outlining the major characters and a springboard
for a novel.
I chose Peggy Jean Cramer’s offering as the contest winner because of her extraordinary ability to add a myriad of interesting characters, and two or three sub plots which ended up relating a compelling story that had a satisfying resolution.
I look forward to reading Peggy Jean Cramer’s future writings. She shows great promise.
I hope you enjoy my first two pages, and Peggy’s following 41 pages… and the title that she invented, The Devil’s Legacy.

He would fly to India and undergo the plastic surgery necessary to give himself the aquiline profile and the jutting jaw he had always envied in movie stars. Now, at last, he had a compelling reason to fulfill his fantasy.
And while I’m at it,
he thought, I’ll have laser eye surgery done and be free of this damned myopia!
Matt’s mind was racing.
He had always hated his blond hair and now, while recuperating from the operations, he would have it dyed brown, the color of his natural facial hair. He smiled at the memory of the slick mustache and beard he had once grown but quickly removed when his father suggested he looked like a damned fop.
Matt was getting
