    CHAPTER 1

I t’s early spring and the air is crisp, clean and fresh. What a beautiful time of the year, before I know it the summer will be here. This is really a lovely picture to awaken to.

Although outside appears to be lovely, I’m still in bed. A huge mahogany bed, draped in white linen, with soft shades of color dashed around the walls. The entire room is filled with the scent of fresh honey suckle flowers, from the outside garden.

Now that I decided to climb out of this comfortable bed, I’m standing here looking around and thinking how much I’m going to miss this place. The smell of the fresh country air and peace quiet is what I’ve become a custom to. There’s no denying that moving to another part of the country is going to take some getting use to.

As a lead attorney, in a prominent law firm that takes cases all over the country, I was chosen to represent a client in a capital murder case. Due to the attention surrounding this case, it’s being tried in another venue. The case will take place just outside of Manhattan, in New York. However, the case is expected to go to trial, within the next two years. Therefore, I will be leaving as soon as possible to begin working on the case, interviewing various witness’s and investigating any loose ends.

The perks that accompany this case are not bad. The firm will be proving a home located just outside of Manhattan, as well as a luxury hotel suite overlooking Central Park, a driver, a cook, a housekeeper, three office administrative personnel and a couple of people from a security firm.

It’s 7:30 P.M. boarding time, I should be arriving in New York in approximately two hours. As we taxi down the runway, I began missing home and praying to the Lord to keep me safe.

    CHAPTER 2

M r. Mansfield! Mr. Mansfield, you have a telephone call. Who’s on the phone. Oh never mind, I’ll take it in my office. Hello!

Good evening Devon, has Joe Peterson arrived yet.

    No, Mr. Hatton.

Now Devon, how many times do I have to ask you to call me Charles.

Okay Charles, as you wish. When Joe arrives, I’ll make sure everything is set-up right.

That sounds good. Well, since Joe has not arrived yet, I’ll speak with you later. Okay, Charles!

Approximately 11:45 P.M., I heard a car pull up in the driveway. Shortly, there after, I heard the servants rushing around and soft voices, just above a whisper speaking. As I approached the foyer, I observed a woman bending down attending to some luggage. At that point, the servants were surrounding her and taking orders. With a tone of delight, I heard cook said "Hello, Joe. What a pleasure it is to have you back, I have not seen you, since you were a little
