    20TH SEPTEMBER 1984

Mister Awe travelled from Africa to Europe, in hope of good life in the promise land. 21 September1984 his plane landed at Charles De Gaul airport in Paris, when he was walking down from the aircraft he praised God Almighty for the successful journey. Before he can get out of the airport to the outside city of Paris, he must undergo some control points, as he was nearing the first control section, he heard the announcement from the speakers in French and English language that those with European passports had to passed through the left wing for check-out and those with other passports had to passed through the right wing. Mr. Awe nodded his head und murmured to himself that, what type of control is this by segregation of people. He said within himself that, this is like artificial discrimination in a country where Equality, fraternity and Freedom is the first motto. Thinking about this made him worried, there was also security person consist of Customs and Immigration officers located randomly in strategies position, watching the peoples movement in and out of the airport. They cannot control all the peoples movement coming in and out of the country, but a lot of people are picked randomly for control. Some people are sometimes picked for control because of their unusual suspicious behavior or by their appearance. In this case Mr. Awe was among those who were directed to undergo more control, after his passport and travelling documents had been already cleared. He was directed to custom department and was interrogated as usual, they asked him why he had only one travelling bag, he answered the questions back satisfactory, but thrust them the two officers questioning him are not satisfied with all his explanations.

He was obligated to undergo urine test, they asked him if he was taking drugs or smoke cannabis or had any illegal drug with him, in which he replied back that, he had never used drugs in his life, never smoke cigarette since he was born to this world and not to of talk about cannabis, which means capital no to the two questions. He did not fear about this because he had no skeleton in his bag. Then he gave the sample of his urine for drugs test, after few minutes the result was negative of any trace of illegal drugs. The officers who are conrolling him, apologized for delaying his journey and at the same time, they told him that they are doing their normal duties. After the inspection, they wish him safe journey for the rest of his journey. Mr. Awe carried his travelling bag and moved out of the airport, but his first encounter was the September cold breeze, he said to himself that, this weather was like when someone is inside a refridgerator. At this weather condition, he took out his pullover and wore it immediately. He looked everywhere around him and he cannot quickly decided what he should do next, because he was boring due to the long journey from Africa to Europe and the unexpected control by his arrival at Charles De Gaul airport. Then he decided to go to a restaurant for a lunch and unfortunately he went inside one of the most expensive restaurant in Paris, to his imagination when he see how elegant the restaurant was decorated, the furniture, the building and the interior decorations, he surely knows that this place is not for a person like him. But trust them, he asked for the menu card and he saw that the minimum price for a lunch is fiftyeuro and the maximum price for a whole set of different type of food was 300euro. He think in his mind that, one mans lunch is another mans one month salary. He breathed deeply and asked himself is this life and what is going on in this world? When one man can afford a lunch for 300euro and another man had to work very hard for it, in a whole month. He put down the menu card, he left the resturant and decided to eat from the fast food restaurant.

In the fast food restaurant, the food and drinks there was at affordable price, he order for meat pie and cool it down with cold orange drink. After finish eating comfortablely, he paid his bills, moved out of the resturant and walked to the nearest train station. He sit down, thinking about which next step to take, fortunately he met one man who had been living in Paris for long time. He asked this man to help him about what to do, as a newcomer in Europe generally. But this man told him that, it is not easy as the way the people in Africa, always thinking about the Africans living here, because nobody pick money from roadside. If you want to be a successful person here, you must keep their laws and also you must be hard working. Anything you want to achieve, you must work hard toward it and also you must put aside the African mentality and inferior complex, always believe that what the white people can do, you can also do it better. Mr. Awe thanks the man for the little advice he render to him, this man invited him to his home and told Mr. Awe to cool down and enjoyed his arrival in Europe. At this mans apartment, Mr. Awe went to the bathroom to take shower firstly, because he was very tired and by so doing would refresh his body from the travelling stress, when he finished taken his shower, he was very relief from the stress and before he finished dressing up, the man had prepared dinner for both of them. He cooked one of the most African menu, pounded yam flour with vegetable soup. When the food is ready, they sit down at the corridor and then ate the food comfortablely. After finished eating, they drink one bottle of beer each. Because of the long journey he cannot went out of the house that evening to see the beautiful and romantic town of Paris, so he decided to relax himself by staying at home, in the whole night he slept like a new born baby.

Before he woke up in the morning, it is already ten in the morning. He walked to the bathroom to take his shower, dress up and ate small breakfast. Firstly he did not know where he had to start by strolling around the most important part of the town. He decided and bought a ticket covering a whole day by the public transport system. He visit the most important places like, museums, zoological garden, botanical garden and so on. After the small discovery adventure, it is already eight in the night. He made up his mind to went back home to meet his friend, but unfortunately he cannot find his way home, because he did not observed or note down which train number could take him home back. He was astonished, because at the train station there are already four trains waiting for the customers with difference numbers which means different ways and directions for each train. He did not know all this development because it is already late in the night, he just enter one of the train but luck was not on his side because he was in the wrong train, which was another way and before he could know this, it is already too late because the train was now at the end region of the town or the town outskirt. He had the telephone number of his friend in his diary but he did not have mobile phone because he was new in the town, at the part of town that he found himself now, there is no sign of telephone booth. Now he had to move back with the next available train back to the town, so that he can phone his friend and asked for necessary help and direction on how he can get back home. It was now ten in the night, he waited for the next train, twenty minutes later came the next train. He entered and start to contemplate about where is better for him to get down from the train. Later he decided to get down at the city centrum, that is where he can easily call his friend, twenty five minutes later the train arrived at the city centrum. He got down and look for the nearest telephone booth, he find one and quickly he called his friend, so that he can direct him on how he can get back home.

In hope that if he called that his friend would told him on phone, about how he would find the way back home or would came there and take him back home. He called the number and waited for the phone to ring, the line is through and the phone started to ring but nobody pick it up. He tried to call again and this time he was fortunate because his friend pick the hand-set and answered hallo! Who is on the line and he answered back, I am Mr. Awe I am now in city centrum, please can you come and take me home? His friend answered back as follows, please I am very sorry that I cannot come, because I am now at my working place, due to the fact that I am having a night shift and I would closed at six in the morning. What I could advise you to do is that, you have to go and mixed up with other stranded travelers in the city centrum train station because at this place, there is special place provided where they are allowed to sit and sleep till day break. After closing from the work in the morning, i would come there and take you back home. Stay at one place so that I would not find it difficult to locate you. There is no any other option Mr. Awe must accept his fate that day, he went to the passengers waiting room and found out that he was not the only one stranded for that day. He entered the waiting room, found some people slept on the bench and others sit down on the chairs. Some of them slept, while the rest remain vigilant. The sitting bench is already occupied, it remain only the chairs. He took one of the chair, sat on it and few minutes later, he started dosing off and before fifteen minutes he fell asleep.

Around half past six in the morning, his friend came to the train station, saw him on the sit but he was still sleeping. He woke him up and they enter a train back home. Because of what happened to him that day, he made up his mind not to go out again without his friend. On Saturday evening, he went out with his friend at one of the popular Africans restaurant and meeting point, at this place he met a lot of people from different part of Africa. Some people are eating, drinking and smoking while some danced to the African music and the remaining one stay around the place looking for woman, because this is a perfect place for meeting with ladies. He bought two bottle of beer to keep them busy and for enjoyment. The people sat at difference angle, discussing about various things pertaining to personal, cultural, and political. Some of them are talking about their wife unfaithfulness, while some against it and some stay neutral to judge or make any statement about some of the subject of discussions. Some are discussing about the way of dressing, the children care and juvenile delinquency. Some people discourse about housing, working and social politics. Discussing about the unfaithfulness by the both opposite sex is a difficult issue for the both party. It is difficult about who is to blame because sometimes both side are guilty of the delinquency. There is one man who told us about his own experience that, the worst plague that can be inflicted upon a man, is when his wife is not faithful to him because when a woman is not faithful to her husband, it can lead into physical and emotional disorder but it is also applied to the both sexes. Physically, it can inflict a man with different types of sexual diseases. Mentally, this can lead to disorder in all aspect of working life.

He talked further that, he was married four years ago with one beautiful European woman, the marriage was successful one, with one bouncing baby boy, one year after he married. Two years after the marriage, her woman started behaving unusual, he start to suspected that there is a foul play in which he cannot proofed it until the cat is out of the sack. One day he had already make a farewell to his wife and then went to his working place, on getting to his working place he note that he had forgotten an important documents at home, but to his surprise when he get back home, he met his wife with one of their neighbors slept on matrimonial bed. Both of them looked very tired from a lot of different types of bed-sport. He was very furious, immediately he asked his wife with anger; What is going on here? But as we know that most of the women in this situation, always had their defensive outspoken or defensive mechanism to ridicule the men, she reply her man back that; It is not as he thought and she said that the man you saw on the bed, was here just to help me to repair the bed that was damage when i was doing exercise on it this morning, and after he had repaired it finish, he only test the bed to confirm that all the screw is well tight. The man said he cannot understand her explanation, you mean this man screw the bed or screw you in our matrimonial bed and home! But as usual the woman denied it, saying when you cannot believe me that is your own problem! He breath deeply, shaking his head and leg and he took what he had forgotten and then went back to his working place. Since that day, he cannot trust his wife again and he is not the same person again.

Firstly he think about divorcing his wife but the cost of it is very expensive, he also think in religious way that what God put together no man should put asunder, but it is stated also that if your wife committed adultery it is a good reason to divorce her or file for divorce. But because of his child, he had to accept all this bull shit. There is also another man speaking about the improper and disrespect behavior of children and he thought that the reason is because of the law which allowed the children to do what they like, sometimes this freedom can lead to disorders, when there is no proper control and good training of the children. That is why some of them do not respect their parent and sometimes abuse their parent verbally, for example there are some children saying to their mother, you are stupid and crazy; You are bastard and you can kiss my harsh that for the father. What type of unmoral world we are living now, because the children know that if their parent made any steps, they have to called the police for them because of the law backing and protect the children. Due to this, most of the parents are powerless and helpless in which way to bring up or train their children. There is one man talked about the problem of resident permit. He said that he had been here for about 15years without grant of resident permit and he cannot understand why? Because when white people came to Africa continent long time ago, to divide and rule, committed different type of atrocities and exploiting the continent inclusive, there is no one of them came with any residence permit or with passport. He said that the first time they asked him about residence permit, he was flabbergasted and asked back that what is residence permit? Because when you people came to Africa we treat you like a king and nobody never mind or have gut to demand from you about residence permit or passport. Because of this he went to Red-Cross place in Paris to seek for refugee and since then till today his application is not accepted and the reason for allowed him to stayed long time was because of humanitarian assistance, because of his sickness, in which he needs to undergo regular medical attention.

In other to obtain his residence permit he must either married or child-bearing. He asked himself what types of life is this? But for him he said he cannot marry or child-bearing because of a pamphlet called residence permit. When he made up his mind to marry or child-bearing, it must for real love not for a pamphlet paper called residence permit. But a lot of people had married or raised children because of this and most of them ended up in divorce, separation and sometimes causes mental disorder for the both party. He continued and asked the people maybe they had ever seen a very old couple, African man with European woman strolling together in the street? The answer is absolutely no, if the lucky one can make it and live together sometimes it may last maximum twenty five years. That is why some people did not like to married, because what is the goodness in been married today and later divorced in short time. There are also many people who are married and raised children against their will, because they do not have any other options. It is now eleven in the night, they make up their mind to go back home.

After their arrival at home, Mister Awe looked at the European map and he thought that it is better for him to go to Germany, because he was told that there are more works opportunity there, as compare to works opportunity in France. One month later he told his friend that he wanted to go to Germany because the money he took along from African is about to finished and he found it difficult to find a work here in Paris. He was also informed that, Germany was a land for hustler and hardworking person like him, then he think that the faster he go there, that is the better is it for him. So he made up his mind that, at the following week he must be in Germany. He went to the international train station in Paris and asked for the cost of transport to Aachen in Germany. But unfortunately his remaining money cannot covered the cost of transportation to Aachen, then he think what can he do now to get to Germany. It is not good for him to demand from his friend for help, because he had already help him enough by housing and his hospitality because cost of housing in Paris is too expensive, while this town is a tourists, fashion designers and artists paradise and also many articulates, academic. He thought about what he can do now to get money for his next journey, as usual if there is a problem there is always a solution to it. He phoned all his relatives and friends all over the continents, but only one agree to rescue him out of his predicament. The help came from United State of America. He called his brother in U.S.A. while the others cannot help him due to one reason or others. His brother picked the phone and asked him what happened because he had heard before, the voice messages from the mail-box which indicated that he had one problem. He replied his brother back that he is now in Paris for fast one and half month and he need about five hundred dollars for the cost of transport to Aachen and for the other things. His brother was so happy that he was in Europe and immediately he sent the money through western-union. The next day he went to the bank and collected the money, after collecting the money, he went to the nearest international train station. He bought his travelling ticket and made a reservation for two days after.

He was very happy for this small development, he went to a restaurant to take a lunch and after he ate finished, he request for a bottle of beer to make the lunch completed. After eating comfortablely, he made his way back home to his friend who is already at home listened to music. He greet him and told him about the latest development that, his brother had saved him out of his recent problem by sending him five hundred dollars, also that he have booked his travelling for a day after tomorrow, his friend was not so happy but he told him that he had postponed the journey two days later because of him. He gave him one hundred and fifty dollars for his care and hospitality, but his friend did not expect this money present, at the same time, he was very happy about it. He show his appreciation to him for the present. The next day both of them walked around the town, for the last time before he will made his journey to Germany. The day when he was travelling, he was escorted by his friend to the international train-station. He was very lucky that his train is already arrived but will moved in five minutes, they made a farewell to each other and his friend wish him save journey. He told him to be well behaved and wish him good luck in Germany. In the train after twenty minutes, there was control of travelling tickets. Few minutes later came another control but this time, it is the police control asking for passport or identity card, when it came to his turn he show his passport to them, it was controlled and everything is alright, his documents was handed back to him. He went to the board restaurant and bought food and drinks because he was now feeling hungry, taken the food to his siting place. He eat what he can and reserve the remaining for later in the day. In the evening his train arrived at the Aachen central main station. He took his bag and came down out of the train, at the train station he stroll around and eight minutes later, the police came to him, asking for his passport. Federal-police! Documents please? Because he did not understand the language, he asked the man what is documents? One of the policemen replied back, I mean your passport or documents. He tender his passport to them, they control it and then handed it back to him. He notice that when he was in Paris for about two month ago there was no such absurd control of identity-card within the town, he can see now that it is true, when the people always referring Germany as a police-country. He never spent twenty minutes the first welcome in Germany is your document please! From now he was thinking about what would be waiting for him alone in this foreign land without any relatives or well known friends.

He went out of the train station and searched inside his diary for the telephone number of his friend in Aachen. He got the number and search for nearest telephone booth around the area where he is now and fortunately he found one at the opposite side of where he was, he went there and make a call to his friend. He called the number and his friend pick up the phone and asked who is on the line? He answered back, it is me mister Awe! Is on the line, I am now in Aachen central main train station but outside the station, not inside the train station, i want you to come here and pick me up please! His friend answered him back that, he would be there in twenty minutes time. He was there earlier as he promised and they greet und hugg each other, he said that he was very happy that he can make it up to Germany. Firstly they went to the nearest fast food restaurant to eat a supper. After the dinner they called a taxi to take them home. It was already late in the night when they got home and could not do anything again than to sleep and wait until following day. The following day is Saturday, in the morning both of them could not wake up earlier as they planned before. They wake up around eleven in the morning, took their bath and delicious breakfast. Later in the day, strolled around the wonderful city Aachen. In the evening they made their plan to go to the disco-tech for celebration. At the place the security there control their identity-card or passport, before he let them go inside the disco. Before the main dancing hall, they firstly dropped their jacket and paid for the service. Also in another corner there, was a place where to pay for entry-ticket, a lot of people are on the line paying one by one and entering the dance-hall. When it came to their turn they pay and collected their ticket and then walked inside, there are many people inside celebrating. Some of them are at dancing-floor dancing, some of them stroll around the hall and the rest sitting in a group enjoyed their drinking and the various debate.

They went to the bar and order for drinks, both of them choose to drink cocktail drink, they pay for the drinks took it and moved to one corner to enjoyed their cocktail-drink. After the drink, both of them walked to the dancing floor to dance, at the same time looking for girls to dance with or wooing for friendship. Luckily both of them got what they desire in mind, dancing till day break with girls till day break. Exactly six hour in the morning, the party was ended. There are many people lined up to collect their cloths or jacket, when it came to their turn to collect their jackets, his friend firstly collected his jacket, when it came to Mr. Awes turn to collect his jacket back, misfortune happen to him, he was giving jacket that is not his own. Immediately he recorgnize that the one the waiter gave to him was not his own. He was very terrified about it, he told the waiter that the jacket giving to him was not his own but it only resemble his own. The attendant had mistakenly giving his jacket to another person not knowing that it is not his, but pleaded to Mister Awe that, they know that the person they mistakenly gave his jacket to would returned it eventually, if he discovered that the jacket is not his own. They wrote down their telephone number on sheet of paper and gave to Mr. Awe, told him to always contact them by telephone or can come personally to asked if the other person have bring back the jacket. They also take the phone number of his friend so that, they can inform them, if there is any development about it. He was shaking, sweating profusely and very terrify. He said that the jacket is not the problem for him but he kept his passport inside the jacket. Now as the jacket is lost and at the same time his passport is lost. Logically! It is when the jacket is found, then the passport would be recovered and when the passport is found, is then he can know his passport numbers.

Now he was totally confused and did not know what to do, Firstly he think about going to the nearest police-station to report about the missing passport, but his friend told him that he have to be patient about it, because his missing jacket can be returned within a week. If he decide to report the matter now to the police, it could in other ways have negative effect on him, because he did not know his passport numbers. He decided to wait until the missing jacket would be returned back or may be found. Four days have passed since he had lost his jacket and he was not happy about his present situation but life must going on. It is almost one month now that his missing property is not founded. One day his friend told him that, he would be sleeping at his girlfriend house for some days. He told him that there is enough food and drinks in the fridge, so that he can eat and drink as he like and to enjoy and feel at home. He gave him spare keys for the apartment, bid him farewell, promised that, they would see each other again by next week, that is how he went out, remain only Mr. Awe in the appartment. He cannot eat very well since the day he had lost his jacket and passport, this evening as he was alone at home, he plan to cook chicken-soup and eat it with rice. He took out frozen chicken meat out of deep freezer and then put it inside dish washing basin, so that the ice inside the meat would be melt down. He think that it is better for him to stroll out for fresh air and also in order to reduce the stress that he is facing now. He wear his clothes, and then went out of the house.

He always take care so that he would not lost his way again like before when coming back home, as it had happened in Paris. He walked few meters and found an international hotel where there are many sections for the prostitutes, he said oh! I have to see all those ladies inside here! He went directly to the prostitute section, at the entrance are two securities waiting to collect payment for entrance to the prostitutes sections. When he meet them they demand that he must firstly pay five euro for entry, which is not refundable and after then he can decided whether to go for the expensive fun, which cost again fourteen times of the entry fee or just feed his eyes and can came out any time he like but the entry fee is non-refundable. He took out his wallet and paid for the entry fee, he collected his ticket and went inside. But to his surprise he found ladies from different nationalities around the world. The ladies from Africa, Asia, Europe, south and north America. He went firstly to one European lady sitting at a chair outside her room, she dressed half naked. He asked her how much money does it cost to entered her room and also the internal sitting room? She replied back that it is seventy euro, he think in his mind that God forbid! That how can he pay such amount of money for only one time enjoyment, he use style to discharge her by bargaining with her that, he had only thirty euro in the pocket, in which he know that she can never accept it.

He moved forward again and then found one beautiful Asian lady only in underwear and bra, her door was open and she sit down on a beautiful decorated bed waiting for her customers. He went inside this room, he says to her her good evening! The lady responds very friendly and he asked her how much she would collected for one round of sex. She replied back that, it is only one hundred euro. He asked her why is it so expensive like that or maybe there are honey and chocolate inside the pussy? The lady answered back that, as he may know or if he do not know, he must know today that the Asian girls pussy are the best one in the world and any man who taste or entered it once will never again in his life wanted to leave us, which is just like given a small child honey or chocolate to eat, and once he taste it he would know how sweet it is, which is very rare for the child to leave or abandon. Secondly the cost of bringing us here from Asian is too expensive. What i can do to help you, as a foreigner in this land as I am, I would give you one offer and it is like this, I would take one hundred euro from you for two round of sex and you should pay me secretly in this room fifty euro extra, as you know by this you will gain fifty euro in your pocket because the charges for two rounds of sex by exotic Asian girls here is two hundred euro, but you should not let my master know about this deal and if you are ready to accept this offer, you should go out immediately to the cashier and pay to my master one hundred euro and you should let him know that, it is only for a round of sex and the remaining fifty euro would be for me, after payment to him bring the rest fifty euro to me and that would be secret between both of us. Mr. Awe told her that he will come next time, because he is not ready now, his money cannot cover the total cost she demanded from him. He went out of the room and walk to the fifth floor.

He met the ladies from north and south America, he talked to most of the ladies there and they too also patronized their market by calling and dragging him to come to them at the same time. He was confused and did not know again which one of them to stay and negotiate with, at last he went in the room of one beautiful and sexy lady he ever seen before. He greet her as usual and asked how much she charge for a round of sex, she replied back that it is eighty euro. He did not stayed longer, he left the room and walked to the 6th floor, where there are only afro-ladies. It look like as if the black man is not welcome there, because they did not know who is who, in other to protect their identity and also the shame in doing this type of job, because it can happened coincidently that they can come across someone that knows them from Africa before, it is not good for them to get exposed like this, which can lead to widespread about it from here to Africa, while the people in Africa did not know what type of work they are doing in Europe. In other to curb this, when the afro-man is in the house, they would inflate the charges so that any black man that mistakenly came to them would feel that it is not necessary to bargain with them and nobody would tell him to leave it. As he was there, he too feel that those afro ladies he met there are not friendly as he expected but he put that feelings apart whether they are friendly or not. He talked to one girl, asked how much she charged for a round of sex, she replied back that it is one hundred and fifty euro! He open his mouth very wide forget to closed it for few seconds because of this absurd charges and then asked her why her charges is so expensive as compared to the other ladies here. He told her further that, she know that he is black man, as she too also is black woman, he pleaded to her that he is ready to pay fifty euro for one round of sex. She replied him back that, all what he is speaking now is only a sentiment because she is not here for selling pop-corn and groundnut, because this is a business and if he cannot pay or he don’t have the money to pay, he should leave her in peace and go away which is her final saying. She walked inside her room and lay down on the bed. He walked out of this floor immediately because he did not want any further embarrassment from her.

He walked out of the hotel and stroll up and down the street, 20minutes later parked a police car behind him and asked him for his personal documents or passport. He replied back that, he had lost his passport and he did not know the passport number offhead or offmind and he had political problem in his land which is the main reason why he came here to seek for asylum. They took him in the car, drove him to their station for further interrogation. At the police station they put him in the cell room. The cell room was very clean and he could not believe it that it is a cell room because the difference is clear, when compared it to the one in Africa generally. He was totally confused because he did not know what would be his fate now being in the hand of the police. He thought that may be this would be the end of the journey or the European dream, which can leads to his deportation back to Africa. He was confused, that he sometimes sit down and stand up, terrify and sweat profusely. Sometimes he would lied down and immediately stood up. He started to pray to God, it is normal because it is when the people have problems is then, they always remembered that there is God. He pray and read psalm 121 within his mind that God know what is better for him that Almighty God should take control of the situation. twenty minutes later the door of his cell room is opened. The officer in charge of his interrogations came in and told him that he had to be patient till Monday, because it is now weekend and he did not find interpreter who can translation for them.

He locked the cell room back and went away, few minutes later the door of the cell room was again opened his portions of food and drink was given to him. He took them and the door was closed again, he opened the plastic bag which contain the food, found inside six slice of bread, packets of cheese, butter, sausage and also set of plastic eating cutleries, a jug fill with tea and plastic cup. He adjust to his present condition, prepared the food and start eating, after he finished eating, he was very tired, he lied on his cell room bed and slept off. Early in the morning he had woke up very early because he cannot sleep very well doing to the situation he found himself and due to his health condition, nine in the morning his cell door was opened. He was asked to empty the dustbin in his cell room and also was asked if he would like to take a shower, in which he agreed. The cell room remained opened from nine in the morning to ten in the morning so that he can walked around the passage in this section and also to take his bath. He firstly went to bathroom to take a shower, after finished he dressed up and walked around inside this station. Exactly ten in the morning, the police bring complete portions of food for the whole day. He took it and placed it on the table inside his cell room. The cell room was locked till next day. There are different types of food in this packets, in which he did not know which one he would start to eat firstly. When he ate a little bit from one particular food, he dump it and try another one until he did not have appetite more for the food. He left the food and started again to pray to God, to deliver him from his present predicaments.

On Monday he have already wake up early as usual, he is waiting for his fate. At half nine in the morning the interpreter arrived, the officer in charge of his interrogations open the door of the cell room and told him to follow him for the necessary interrogations. In the small office the interpreter is already there, sitting down and waiting for them to come inside, two of them came inside sitting at appropriate place. The interpreter asked him maybe he can speak or understand German-language, in which he replied back that, he cannot speak or understand the language but English language and his mother language he can speak and understand very well. He asked which language is better for him? He answered that they can make it in English-Language. The officer in charge of this interrogation start by reading to him the protocols and at the same time the interpreter explain it in English language to Mister Awe, by the protocols they told him that he have the right to talk or to remain silent or decided to be represented by a legal adviser. He said he prefer to talk as to remain silent und that if he remain silence his problem would also remain silence with him, which is one of the main reason why he likes to narrate his problems. He was giving documents to sign which stated his name, age, occupation, country of origin and that all what he would told them is nothing but the truth. He sign it and the police officer start the interrogation firstly by asking him, why he came to Germany? He was not happy that he have to face such a discrimination question, he was little bit furious about it and he told the officer that what kind of silly question is this, to be asking me why I came here! Do you ever in the school learned about history, I do not mean just ordinary history but the German history in 1930th years and 1940th years. It is not the same question that Hitler asked the foreigners especially the Jews, that why this dirty and dubious foreigners came to Germany? You are repeating the same question like your fore-fathers did! You want to repeat the history again? The officer told him to cool down that it is only misunderstood and he did not mean that or think in such absurd or barbaric way. He told him that the way he constructed the sentence to asked him this first question is discriminating, because he did not asked from him first what they can do for him or what was his problems and when the white peoples came to Africa nobody ever asked you why you came to Africa whether it is for good or for bad.

The police officer told him to forget about all this sentiments and now he put the question in another way round like this, now Mr. Aaweh told me now what are the problems facing you to leave your country and how do you lost your documents and passport? He replied back that, it is now that he had a reasonable question to answer not like unreasonable question like, why you came to Germany! Please listen to me attentively and you the interpreter too! Do not misquote me, please interpret exactly what I told you and when you are ready you should please let me know. Both of them respond at the same time that he can continue his episode. He start his story this way as follows; My name is Mister Awe I am Human-Right and environmental Activist, most of my time is dedicated to defend the poor people, the ignorance people who don’t know their rights and the oppressed people in Africa. I also engaged in all types of environment protection activities, my first protest start when I was driving around, at one of the major city in Africa and found a lot of people sleeping under the bridge, it was a very terrible to saw those people who are sleeping under the bridge, where there was always busy traffics activities. The sound of the vehicles using this bridges is very loud that by my imagination, i think that how can this people sleeping under this inhuman conditions. It is not only that it is physically dangerous, but also it is mentally precarious because of the effects of the loud sound, which is very dangerous to the health. At this place where they are sleeping under the bridge, there is no any barriers, fences or any safety devices mounted to protect them from the going and incoming vehicles. I think in my mind that, what types of life is this, while most of this people did not know that as a citizen of Africa they had the right for a small if not at all big comfortable accommodation or accomodation facilities, which is the duty and obligation of the government, because they are not informed, they cannot demand their appropriate right from the government. I rally around to inform them to gathered together one day, to protest and demand from our government for housing for everybody. Sometimes the peoples always call me, ghetto lawyer. At the day of the protest everything was well organized, there are many people showing up at this demonstration, in which we count out about one hundred thousand people at this day, also present there are journalists, television stations, sending live broadcasting on air.

One month after the protest, it is unbelievable that, government had responded by locating this people to government quarters and the rest people were giving monthly allowance to pay for their house rents. That is a good development for the masses, since the day of this protest. The government always embarked on housing project for the people of the country every year and this projects is going on till today, as I am speaking now. It has reduced the problem of housing and accommodation to 10percent, but before engaging in this project, it is almost 30percent and that is a good development for the peoples and government as well. Little by little we also organized rallies and protests for free education and health care, but it is not all our demands can be fulfill by the government. I always engaged also in helping the street kinder out of street, so that they can have future perspectives, by learning handwork or go back to school to further their education. Why I always fighting for, is free health care because a lot of people with their ailment cannot afford the cost of the health care due to their lower incomes, unemployment and without any future perspectives. But most of them did not know that, it is duty and obligation of government to provide for the peoples who cannot afford the cost of free health care, while in any democracy land, everybody must have their own share from what the country can offer. We fought for free housing for the people in need, for free education because the youth today are the future of a country, for free health care because a sick citizen also means a sick nation! With all our efforts some of our demands were attended to, which is part of the success of this demonstrations and we also waited for the government respond to attend to the other problems. I also engaged in annual fund raising for the people that found it difficult to afford to feed themselves and with this fund, we paid the people in need of it every month and it is a great relief for this people, by this services we are very happy by helping this people because there is a joy in helping one another.

My other hobby and engagement is environmental protection because of my love of nature. I always advise the people not to fell down the trees just for the sake of fire-wood, because it is a climate killer and also in health wise dangerous for the users, due to the fact that, it is poisonous by releasing of carbon-monoxide, which can be inhale by the users, which is also main causes of many respiratory diseases. I always advise and informed them about the alternative cheap and clean energy methods that can be used for their domestic use. Once in a year was the day of afforestation, this day we informed the people to make sure that at least they plant one or more trees as you can and our organization use this day also to plant thousands of trees. We also advise the government that, whoever fell one tree must surely planted fifty trees back. This is just one of our obligations that we carried out every year because our onuses here is very wide as speculated, such as waste products disposal control, endangered animal species protection. The demonstration against the oil split in the rural area, where the big oil companies built their oil wells and during their operations, there was a lot of oil split which affected the people living there physically and commercially, because a lot of agricultural viable land is subjected to oil spilt, the people cannot grow a single crops on this land no more and the rivers for fishing, for domestic use is also affected by this operations. The rivers were contaminated, the fish dies off and people had to walked long distance in order to get water for their domestic use. Due to this phenomenon the farmers and the fishers remain jobless. The domestic farmers and fishers also find no way out of this problems they are encounter, how can this people now feed their families, because they did not receive any compensation either from government or the oil companies. The oil companies had treat the land just as to suck the orange juice and dropped the waste products, which is not fair. If you visit this area where the millions of dollars are coming out every day, it is very sad that the people there are living in abject poverty without reasonable infrastructures.

There are many activists during the military junta, demonstrated against this injustice but at the end, they lost their life which is very sad episode. One day we organized a protest about this issue and demand that the government and the oil companies must compensate those people, because of the effect of the oil operations. This day, there are thousands of people came for the demonstration. The entrance to the oil wells and oil companies are blocked by the demonstrators, which make the oil companies unable to do their daily work activities as usual. Many days after this demonstration, the price of crude oil sprang up and if there are destabilized by the operations of the oil companies. This would also affected the government revenue and because of this, and also as I am well known as organizer of all this demonstrations, I am always watched by the government agencies. There is a time I am not at home, my house was searched and materials for the next protest was seized and next day I received a letter, been accused of felony, insinuating peoples against the government and I know that I cannot received a good or fair trial, I know what happened to the past activists like me, that is why I made my mind to leave the country to safe my life. In order to leave the country safely, I travel to the neighboring country and from there, I made my flight to Paris and from there I am here. I went to one disco club, when I want to collect my jacket in the morning, is then I discovered that my jacket was mistakenly given to another person, because both jackets are the same. I have my passport inside my jacket, all effort had been made to find the other person and the jacket, but all the effort made fall abortive. I did not know the number of my passport off head or off mind. When the jacket is not found, how can i found the passport and without passport, how would I know the numbers of my passport, that is why i am confused and did not know what to do again, whether to report the matter to the police or waited maybe it can be found later.

As it is my primary motive and objective of been here is, coming here for asylum. I asked the people where is the nearest foreigner office here, I was told that it is around where you saw me, question me and arrest me. That is all i have to say. The officer asked me whether he can send my statement to the foreigners office, in which i agree with him and he immediately faxed my statement to the foreigner office. He took me back to the cell room to wait for reply from the foreign office. One hour later after this interviews, the door of the cell room was open. I was asked to pack all my personal properties that, one worker from the foreigners office is waiting for me outside. I am very happy for this latest development, quickly i packed all my things, and i was led outside the gate, outside there waiting one bus with a driver and foreigners office worker patiently for me. The policeman took me to the waiting bus and hand me over to the foreigners worker. He greet me and said, my name is Mr. Müller working in foreigners office. I too said, my name is Mr. Awe from Africa, we entered the bus and 15 minutes later, we are at the foreigners office. Everything went fast because my statement had already been sent to them, so there is no need for further questioning at this moment, temporary identity card was issued for me. I was later sent to temporary hostel in Aachen to be waited for transfer but where? I did not know for this moment. There are also many foreigners waiting to be transferred to this temporary hostel, i talked to some of them, some are from Africa, Asia, Cuba, Arabia and Latin America. 30 minutes later we entered the big bus that they provide for us and travelled to the temporary hostel.

At the hostel we are received by the social workers and the house master. They distribute everybody to their room and gave us food packet for the whole day. A sheet of paper was given which stated the rules and regulations for this temporary place where i am posted to and this instruction were printed in different languages. I took the one in English language, I read through and it is stated that we must always keep the house clean, we can stroll outside as from eight in the morning to ten in the night, but must observed the time for the distribution of food, so that you will not missed your food rations. Some people who have enough money always ignore that, in the evening some people played music, drink beer and smoke their cigarette. There are some people exchange ideas about their present situation, because not everybody know how to apply for asylum without implicating themselves during this process. After many hours of drinking and smoking, some people are already drunk and started misbehaving. What is the result of drinking and smoking? The people started fighting one another, untill when it is uncontrollable, also by house master, there is no way he can end the fight and then he have to call the police for necessary interventions. Before the police arrival, one Arab had stab his friend with knife but fortunately the injure was not deadly, because the other one wear a leather jacket, that was what safe his life. What they are fighting for is only about a token money, which is only ten euro. Fifteen minutes later the police and the clinic ambulances arrived, the injured person was treated and discharged immediately. Because of this fighting, there are two ambulances van show up and I think in my mind that this land is very rich because in Africa, the ambulance would came only when the person is at point of death and that is even if there is any ambulance in some of the village or even small city in Africa.

The police asked both of them for their identity-cards, it was note down and immediately they returned the documents and told both of them that, later they must be expecting letter of invitation for interrogations from them and drove away. After this there is total silence
