Guardian Angel - Trinity Dobbs
Chapter 1
The noise of the loud moving truck coming from the road startled April as she looked up from her computer screen and out the window.
Someone is moving into the house next door? No one has lived there in years.
She got up from her desk and raced down the stairs.
Mom, look! There is a moving truck at the house across the street.
April commented as she peered out the window into the bright August sunlight to see if she could see anything.
Really?
questioned her mom, Cheryl, as she went about her business.
I wonder what they are like?
April asked aloud.
Well, sweetheart, there is only one way to find out.
Cheryl said as she walked over and stood beside her daughter. Why don’t you and your brother go over there and introduce yourselves?
suggested her mom. Invite them over for dinner tomorrow night, if they seem ok.
Sure thing Mom,
April said excitedly as she scrambled to the staircase. Now, you have to understand that April and her mom both love meeting new people.
CRAIG!
April shouted as she ran up the stairs, turned the corner, and bolted into her younger brother’s room. Mom wants us to go and meet our new neighbors.
Craig turned around in his chair, whipped his shaggy brown hair out of his face and looked at her with those big, brown eyes.
Do I really have to go?
he whined, I was fixing to go ride the four-wheeler.
Well, stay here if you want to, but I am going to go check out that nice brand new drum set I saw that they own,
April retorted as she started walking toward the door.
Craig jumped out of his chair and said as he began to eagerly walk toward the door, Drums? On second thought, I could use some exercise on this beautiful day.
April laughed as she shut the door behind him.
MOM! We will be back in a few.
April called as she and Craig came down the stairs.
Have fun!
Cheryl replied as they walked out the door. They closed the front door and started down the mile long paved driveway.
I wonder what they are like,
April wondered aloud.
I don’t know but I hope they are really cool. That’s all we need is geeky neighbors.
Craig complained. No kidding, not to mention that it would totally kill our popularity at school,
April mentioned. April, Craig, and their older brother Conner were the three most popular kids in Laken High School.
Maybe they are newlyweds who just don’t have any kids yet.
Craig suggested.
I love babies! I hope they have little babies. Maybe they will let me take care of them.
April exclaimed.
As they approached the end of the driveway, they started observing their new neighbors’ belongings to see if they could figure them out.
Look at the drum set April!
Craig exclaimed as he ran over to admire it. That’s the best brand out there.
Nice,
April replied uninterested as she continued searching for the new owners.
I don’t see anybody.
Craig mentioned as he scouted the yard.
Well, I guess we will just have to knock on the door.
April replied as she flipped her brown hair out of her eyes and started up the stairs.
April, I would be careful on the stairs. There is no railing and it looks kind of slick,
Craig said concerned as he followed her cautiously up the stairs to the front door.
I know what I am doing.
April retorted back as she climbed the stairs. She reached the top and started to the door.
WHOA!
She screamed as she slipped off the porch. Suddenly, out of nowhere two strong arms caught her right before she hit the ground. When she realized she wasn’t hurt she looked up and saw her rescuer. He had shaggy brown hair and beautiful deep blue eyes. He looked down at her and said with a smile, Well, I’ve never had a girl fall that hard for me before.
April smiled back at him, I hadn’t intended on falling.
KYLE!
a voice called as the front door flew open and a mid 30’s aged woman raced out of the door followed by a middle aged man, a medium height brunette, and a young, red head with freckles.
Are you ok? What happened? Do I need to call 911?
Mom, calm down,
the boy said as he put April down. This young lady slipped off the porch and I simply caught her. She is fine and so am I.
Oh good
the lady sighed in relief. She turned to April and asked, Well, now that we know you are ok, may I ask who you are?
April smiled and said, Oh, I’m sorry. I am April Larkin and this is my younger brother Craig. We live right across the street. We just came over to meet you.
Oh my, it is awfully nice of you, April and Craig.
replied the lady, Well, I’m Teresa Martin.
She turned to the man beside her, This is my husband Patrick, the brunette is my daughter Katie, the red head is my other daughter Bridget, and I can see that you have already met my son Kyle,
she laughed.
April laughed and said, We have an older brother but I don’t know where he is right now.
Nice to meet you all as well,
Craig commented looking over at Bridget with a smile.
We actually just came over to see if your family would join us for supper tomorrow night,
April said with her perfect smile.
We would love to!
Katie exclaimed. Can we please, Mom?
Well, I guess so,
replied Teresa with a smile. What time April?
Six o’ clock ok?
April questioned.
We will be there,
Kyle said with a grin.
Which house is yours again?
asked Patrick
The tall, white one across the street,
Craig replied.
We will be there,
Patrick said as he and his wife walked back towards the door. I hate to have to run but we still have things to unpack so I have to get busy. See you kids tomorrow. Nice to meet you.
Same to you,
Craig and April called back in unison.
Ok, I have to ask the question. Who owns the drum set?
asked Craig as he pointed to it.
Kyle proudly said, It’s mine.
Dude, that’s a sick drum set. I’m so jealous.
Craig exclaimed.
Thanks man. Do you play?
Duh.
Craig laughed.
We will have to play together sometime,
Kyle suggested.
I can’t wait,
Craig replied, stoked with excitement.
Well Craig, we really need to get back home. It’s almost time for dinner,
April pointed out as she turned toward Kyle. Thank you so much for not letting me hit the ground. I definitely owe you one,
she said as she stared into his blue eyes.
No problem, I’m glad you are ok. You just need to be more careful next time,
Kyle replied back.
It’s not your fault she is clumsy,
Craig commented. Bridget giggled.
Hey! I am not clumsy Craig. I am going to get you for that! You had better watch out,
April retorted back at him giving him the evil eye.
I guess I’d better go while I’m ahead. See you all tomorrow,
Craig said as he raced off down the driveway back toward his house.
Well, I am glad that you are ok,
Katie said.
Thanks. Well, I guess I will see you guys tomorrow night,
April said with a smile as she turned to walk back to her own house.
See ya!
called Katie and Bridget in unison as April started down her own driveway.
Try not to slip on anymore porches!
Kyle joked as he called after her.
She whipped around with a smirk on her face and said I’ll try my hardest.
She turned back around and walked back to her house.
Well, we had better get back to work before we get in trouble,
Katie reminded her brother and sister.
Yeah, I don’t feel like getting yelled at today,
Bridget said with a laugh.
Kyle… . Kyle… . KYLE!
Katie called loudly to get her brother’s attention. Kyle jumped. What!
I know that she is pretty but can you quit staring at her long enough to get back to work so we don’t get in trouble?
Katie laughed as she and Bridget started looking for their possessions.
I was NOT staring at her. I was making sure she wasn’t going to fall. She already fell off the porch today,
Kyle retorted back as he started picking stuff up out of the yard.
Oh it’s mister grumpy pants now,
Bridget teased.
Be quiet!
said Kyle as he went back into the house with some more of his things.
Whatever, mister grumpy pants,
teased Katie as she followed her brother into the house.
I heard that!!
shouted Kyle from inside the house.
Chapter 2
April was off in her own little world as she walked back up the driveway. "That was like a dream. He just came out of the middle of nowhere and caught me. How did he know I was going to fall? He was so built, strong, and extremely attractive. I can’t wait till tomorrow night. I wonder what he is like. I hope . . . ." BANG!!
OWW!
April yelled at the top of her lungs. Cheryl ran out of the house.
April, what’s wrong? Are you ok?!
She panicked.
She’s fine,
Craig reported as he came from around the corner of the house. She was just riding on cloud nine and ran into the porch.
Was not!
April said in a loud, defensive tone as she walked into the house.
Oh,
said Cheryl with a smirk, And why is that April?
I am not on cloud nine. I was just zoned out for a few minutes. Is there anything wrong with that? I don’t think so!
April said loudly.
Oh come on April. Aren’t you going to tell her about the tremendous amount of flirting you just pulled off?
What?
asked Cheryl with a grin.
When we got to their property, we started looking around to see if we could find someone. We couldn’t, so I walked up the stairs.
Which I told her not to do,
interrupted Craig.
Anyway,
April rolled her eyes as she continued,
The porch was slick and I slipped backwards off it. The next thing I knew, I’m in some boy’s arms who was making sure I was ok. When I caught my breath and grabbed a hold of myself, I looked up to see who caught me. He looked down at me with a smile and said
imitating Kyle, Well, I’ve never had a girl fall that hard for me before. Craig started laughing and then his family came outside to see what the commotion was all about. The boy put me down and explained what happened. That’s all.
Well,
Cheryl sighed, that was quite an interesting story. So tell me, how did you like the new neighbors?
April replied, They seem really cool Mom and they agreed to come for dinner tomorrow night.
That’s good. I can’t wait to meet them,
Cheryl said with a smile.
Craig piped up, They seem pretty cool and April’s prince has an epic drum set!
Ahhhh, so Craig is already in love with them,
Cheryl chuckled as Craig walked up the stairs to his room.
Yeah, we both thought that they were pretty cool, but you can judge for yourself tomorrow night,
April commented as she climbed the stairs.
Alright, maybe I will,
Cheryl called up after her as she walked into the kitchen.
April, are you almost ready?
Conner asked as he burst into her room, The Martins will be… .
His voice trailed off. April turned around as
